Not that it's a big deal...
but...
Do we have anyone who can fix the backgrounds on the icons? They're a slightly different blue, so they kinda stand out.

Maybe it's just my monitor, or an effect of being color blind.

I think it would be best to just make them transparent backgrounds.

Any volunteers?

They look fine to me, but I can do it. I just don't know what to do with the newly transparent icons. Like how to upload them.

Well, it's in the admin panel somewhere... maybe... You know... honestly... I don't know. We may need to invoke FTP access.

It actually looks fine on my home monitor. It only looks like crap on my work monitor.

Hmph. That's odd. I went to see, and I changed the theme from my profile, and now I have ads.

Did I always have ads, or was I excluded until just now? =D

Do you mean the "Puzzles, Archives, Discussion, Interact, About" icons on the top? Or something else? It looks like a perfect match to me, and now I don't want to risk mucking with my profile to see it, after the warning about ads.

Looking at those icons in paint.net, I see that they do not have a transparent background. I spent a few minutes trying to use the color change feature to change that color to be transparent, but I wasn't able to get it to work. Because the images fade from their color into the blue, just using fill to a transparent color will leave it fading to blue rather than fading to transparent. I'm sure I could do it, but it would take some hand work I don't have time for, and I suspect that someone with Photoshop available could do it in seconds.

If someone does want to fix the icons, I'll be glad to get them uploaded to the right place.

This is what I see...
The main page looks like this, and the top of this page has the same effect (the "The Grey Labyrinth" icon looks the same.) Maybe it will look fine on other monitors...

So, I guess, Courk, fix 'em and email them to Zag. That should get everything straightened out. (if you want to)

So from the front page, these need changed:
"The Grey", and then the PADIA icons.

And from the forum pages:
"The Grey Labyrinth", PADIA icons, and "Discussion Forums"?

If I make the blue transparent, it makes blueish hues semi-transparent (translucent?) -- will that look OK when placed on a blue background again?

I had a quick look at the images and they all have a background colour of #CADCFF
The HTML source sets the background surrounding these images also to #CADCFF.

In the image of what you see, the background surrounding the images is #CADCFF, but the images show the value #C4D4FF
This is why you see a different colour, but the problem is not the images.

It seems that your browser is rendering the images incorrectly for some reason.

I think it really needs someone to make the area transparrent...
It's a gradient color, so making just one color transparent would make things worse. (I think.)

Those are the icons that need attention... well... Huh... although the Discussion Forums have a clear blue background, it doesn't stand out at all like the others do.

What we really need is someone with mad photoshop skills to make the entire area around the icon become transparrent.

Huh... interesting. I'm using a standard IE browser here at work... though I am using Chrome at home.

Let me try firefox here at work. That looks perfect.

*scouring the interwebs*

Found some stuff. Apparently, IE8 doesn't care for PNG images that have been created with certain editing software. They reccomend using something called pngcrush. This also explains why "Discussion Forums" looks fine (it's a gif)

Go for Courk? =D

Yes. I'm using GIMP, it can set the color transparent and semi-transparents(?) similar colors. So if I have an image with baby blue, navy blue, and brown, and set the baby blue to transparent, the brown doesn't change much, the baby blue is clear, and the navy blue would become sort of a shadowy-color. It'd be like they were pieces of glass. What I can't check, though, is whether using this image and placing it over the baby blue background would return the navy blue and brown to their normals. It does it within GIMP, but I'm not sure if it will outside of GIMP -- anyone know?

I think... follow that link and resave them.
Maybe we should just switch to gif format (though png is certainly preferable in the web world.)

Maybe we should all just switch to firefox or chrome? =D

On a brief read through I didn't understand what you linked to. I went ahead and did the thing with GIMP, it seems to work (at least in firefox). In IE6 it doesn't seem to (the background is gray now?)

Ok. I've uploaded the changed files from Courk. Unfortunately, one of the files was a gif, which doesn't have the concept of transparency. She sent me a png version of it, but I don't know where the references to it are. When I have more time, I'll hunt them down.

Since I never saw the issue, could someone who did tell us if it seems fixed?

Courk... if I've never told you that I love you, then you're due.

(it looks perfect in IE now... at least from my house. I'll check it in the morning at work, but I have full faith that it will be the same result.)

Also, thanks Zag.

Seriously... does anyone else see ads under the "Discussion Forums" image? I swear they weren't there, but now they are again.

Very strange.

Ads have been around for a little while now, Hy.

Zag, if it helps, the one I changed to png had the same file name, just .gif.
