Thanks! I actually also posted something about "my wedding" a while ago, so let me explain how it's been going on.
The situation in Israel today is that for someone to get legally married, the couple has to be of the same religion (Judaism, Christianity or Islam) and to have a duly appointed minister of their religion wed them. For Jews, this involves a religious institution called the Rabbinate. This is an ignorant, antiquated body whose existence is an insult to peaceful agnostics such as your truly. More importantly, they make the bride jump through all sorts of demeaning hoops, which I really didn't want my wife to go through. Instead, we exploited a well-established loophole where Israel does recognize legal marriages in certain other countries, so two months ago we flew to Prague and had a fat mayor wed us:

After that, a 30 day waiting period and the time it takes for international mail to get to Israel, we were legally married. However, I still insisted on the Jewish ceremony, performed by a non-orthodox rabbi. That was yesterday, and that's what I consider my "real" wedding - the first one was just a trick to change my legal status. The one last night had all of our immediate families, and we'll have a large party for our friends next week, which will be a lot less stressful. So, that's the story of my three-part wedding. I'll upload a picture from the ceremony yesterday once I get them myself - the photographer took so many that just copying them will take him a week or so, I think.

And yeah Jack Ian, you got it right - it literally says "in success" which is the way to wish someone good luck in Hebrew. So if that's what you tried to translate, success Felicitous

You have to decide what kind of God you don't believe in and then get the appropriate minister to marry you.

Because of this my spouse and I decided to forgo getting married altogether (which offers some other benefits as well). We are in a state of common-law marriage but are formally considered single. This sometimes lends itself to weird and funny situations but hopefully i'll stay single for the rest of my life Revenge most foul!.

Interestingly, by jewish laws we are married because A) we have performed one of: 1. man giving money to woman for the specific reason of marriage OR 2. giving a deed for same reason, OR 3. known each other in the biblical sense. And after that B) same as (3) but in our own home.

I have to say that jewish marital(and divorce) laws are really one piece of contemporary enlightened thought. The addition of unification of state and religion simply takes this genius to a whole new level.

I drove past a newly wed car a few days ago, and then it drove past me.

On the driver's window, they had written "Fight Naked..."
On the passenger's window, "... and Fight Dirty."

And here's me doing my impression of a respectable man (behind my left shoulder, my mom), with my wife covered with more makeup than she wanted:

Antrax, didn't you used to be fat? Great job on trimming down. I remember you losing weight, but that was a while ago and most people put it back on by now. You look good. She looks great! You look good. Felicitous

Five o' clock shadow and a loosened tie? If that's how you always roll, you are badass. Congrats!

Not sure how to respond to that. Thanks, I guess Felicitous I have no intention of gaining the weight back. I honestly find it incomprehensible that people do, though I do know that's the common case. My father-in-law is overweight and is becoming diabetic as a result, and he refuses ("tries and fails") to lose weight, which again I can't manage to understand.

Well, it wasn't entirely my choice, so I don't think it counts as "badass". I tend to bleed profusely when I shave so I asked the barber to trade off shave quality in exchange for me not having huge red stains on the right side of my face, and since my hair grows pretty fast, apparently it was noticeable Melancholy
As for the tie, I actually did my best to tighten it, at least until after the religious ceremony. I just never dress formal (that was the second time I wore a suit in my life) so I'm not very good at it Felicitous

Yeah, I'm not very good at giving compliments. I guess I'm out of practice. Razz

But seriously, you do look great and I'm really excited for you that you've found a much more healthy way to live....and have snagged a hot babe in the process!
