I have a couple of friends I game with, and since my laptop has gone kaput I have to take my desktop. The only problem is, several others bring theirs as well, and it gets difficult to put everyone on ethernet cables. So I'm looking at getting an internal wireless adapter for my desktop so I don't have to worry about it. I've taken a look at several things and I *think* I know what I should be getting, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

So: What do I need to look for in a wireless adapter? I've tried USB adapters before with mixed results, and I've been told that "internal" cards work fairly well, so that's why I'm leaning towards this.

No matter what, Wireless has more latency than a wired Ethernet connection will.

Latency = Lag.

Lag = low ping time = choppy game play.

For pure gaming, stay wired.

Wow I agree with Chaz.... Razz

yeah, there's really no way getting around the latency problems with wireless, but go for the N router, as well as an 802.11.n USB 2.0 adapter. If you can put in a PCI card, go for the internal card, you'll get more consistent results.

Then you're all set.

we had a USB N adapter for our PC before we ended up with the two laptops, and it was usable...but horrible if you want games. do whatever you have to do to stay wired.
