They're building a dome over Houston? Is this the beginning of iRobot, or the start of the Tripod series? Is this for real? =D
I'm moving to Houston if this is actually happening.

I can't believe you'd be for such a thing!! How could it possibly happen without the government driving it? There would never be a profit motive for any one (non-government) organization to make such an investment. Even a coalition of businesses who would ultimately save money on heating and air conditioning couldn't really afford to do it, because of the "Volunteer's Dilemma" factor. (This is related to the "Prisoner's Dilemma" but with different parameters to the game.)
By the way, I agree that it's a cool concept. Too many flaws, probably, including security against terrorism, but it's still a cool concept. |

| It's only going to include the downtown area. You can see where they've begun construction along I-45. It will be 6 years (if they stay on schedule) before it's complete, though. |

I'm totally moving to Houston then! =D
@Zag: I view the government as an armed robber. If someone robbed money from me, and then used the money to do something great, it wouldn't preclude me from utilizing the great thing just because I disagree with their methods of fund raising.
I go to Vegas after all.
Also, you need to consider that anything (and I do mean anything) that can be funded by government can be funded by individuals. After all, government gets all of its funding from individuals.
I think it's extremely likely that this will be a gigantic flop, but I'd certainly donate my private money toward trying something like this. I'm certain plenty of other like-minded people would. It's just not possible in the current US because you'd have to get mafia (er, I mean government) approval to do something like this. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

If everyone's mentality mirrored mine, then this would have been perfected a hundred years ago. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

I wonder, if it gets built, what the emissions standards for transportation will be. Even with vents, I can't imagine you'd want much in the way of gasoline exhaust inside the dome. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

I think that, with a dome that size, it might become a moot point. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

I think you underestimate downtown traffic in a city the size of Houston. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

| We already have light rail running on electricity. They've started the expansion project (it's just one line now) to coincide with the dome construction. |

| Obviously, they will need an elaborate set of moving sidewalks, as in Heinlein's The Roads Must Roll. |

They need the expressway system from the "I, Robot" series.
Then I could finally play a game of "running the strips" and show people what's what. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |
