Grats to you Seattle Seahawks fans! After being the first team ever to enter the playoffs with a losing record, they defeat the reigning champions, New Orleans Saints! Well done!!

What matters is that they're 1-0 right now.

There are a few things in Seattle sports that are always electrifying. In the order of the most relevant being last:

1. The Ich-I-Ro chant when he comes to the plate trailing (but not out of it) or tied late in a game with men on base.

2. Felix dealing.

3. False starts at Qwest.

It's a playoff game. It was shown nationally on NBC.

Do you need us to tell you what channel and time the Saints-Bears game will be shown next week?

Fair enough. In my defense I was sick yesterday and am still recovering. I slept until 7pm (about 20 hours) so I would have missed it anyway.

OK. In any case, ESPN.com claims that Seahawks-Bears is Sunday January 16th, at 10 am Pacific Time (1 pm Eastern) on FOX.

I assume that you are capable of figuring out what channel FOX is.

Unless I'm sick. Maybe I should be. They seem to lose every game I *do* watch.

I know you have it a lot colder, but that quick change amazed me. Tomorrow morning at 6 AM it will probably be about 20 F. That's a 50 degree change in 24 hours.

I agree - those huge swings can be more impressive than the actual temperature. I think I remember a 40 degree swing in a day here a couple winters ago. Of course, even after increasing 40 degrees, it was still well below freezing that time. It's crazy.

I generally expect National Geographic to have standards of reporting. Granted, I haven't seen much of it since it became NatGeo, but still, what makes you think it's *not* for real?

1. No "before" pictures
2. I googled "skin gun" and couldn't find any major news sources acknowledging it.
3. The whole tone of the youtube clip seemed a bit amateurish.
4. The device itself wasn't what I would expect it to look like.
5. The alleged victim's recovery was a little too dramatic and fast for my comfort.
6. No references to research, peer review, etc.
7. No coverage on national tv or internet news.

Other that those things, not much.

If you google the doctor's name, stuff comes up (including his page at the university he works at.)

If you google the patient's name with the word "burn" a bunch of stuff comes up.

Medical miracles don't get a whole lot of positive press coverage. It goes against the media's "drug companies are out to KILL YOU FOR MONEY" line. Now for the real question: How tongue-in-cheek is that comment, really?

Fair enough on being skeptical, but this one is not much of a point at all. What SHOULD a skin gun look like, and why does it need to look like that?

That's really cool. I don't think it's fake - I've heard about other QBs doing similar feats, although to a lesser degree. Like Tim Couch was touted for his ability to accurately drop a football into a garbage can like this guy, or Kyle Boller being able to gun a football through the uprights from 60 yards out on his knees.

There is the potential that a few misses were edited out. I would be most impressed by a water bottle being knocked off someone's shoulders. The target would really have to trust his aim for that!

I doubt it's fake, and the guy's obviously got a lot of talent, but you have to wonder how many takes it took for some of them.

The fact that it was a hand-held camera (with all the shaking) makes it a lot harder to have faked. On the other hand, there's nothing (other than a lack of bruises all over the guy's face) to say that it wasn't 50 takes for each one they showed. If he could sink those baskets that accurately from far away, why hasn't the basketball team already recruited him. Someone who could consistently bury 3-pointers from the center line would be a starter on any college team in the country.

I think the basketball ones and the door ones probably would have required a few takes, since in addition to putting the ball the in the right place, there's also a bounce, which is tough to control with a football.

Throwing a football over distance is different from a basketball - his motion wouldn't really work well if he had to palm a basketball.

If you can throw that precisely, you can throw that precisely. Learning to do it with a slightly different motion is not going to be the challenge.

I saw Larry Bird once demonstrate this for a Boston Globe reporter. Larry was playing with two fingers taped together, and the reporter asked him if he could still shoot accurately. Larry then bet the man (who had been a successful college player) that he could completely tape up both hands, all four fingers together, and still beat him in a free-throw competition. With his hands completely taped (covering the finger tips) Larry threw 4/10 in the first set, then 8/10, 10/10, 9/10, to win their best of 5 competition.

I thought this at first as well, but the kid with the bottle could have just dropped if he thought the ball was going to hit him in the face. Combined with the thrower aiming high, and it's very achievable as a fake.

The cuts from throw to throw also aren't very convincing that it's authentic.

His rankings aren't super impressive:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/-yITNM4WN0GbVnnSlW492g/football-fall-07/stats-johnny-mcentee.htm

The most impressive shot was hitting the goal post three times in one take. Everything else could be faked by an average player.

I don't think that's true. A basketball court is 94 feet long. A full court shot is probably going to be taken with a running start and then heaved, and distance is going to be as much an issue as fine accuracy. But a high school QB is going to be able to reliably throw a football that length. Getting it into the basket a high percent of the time is a different issue, but that's why he's the "Trick Shot Quarterback".

Plus, aren't footballs like aerodynamically designed to fly further, whereas basketballs are designed to arc predictably?
