On Monday, I'm going to host a Puzzlevanian party for all my GL friends. Since you're all hungry, I've made a huge dish of a certain food (it's flat, and has a surface area of 4 square meters).

Now, the first guest to the part comes in a takes a slice that is 1/3 of the dish, but then realizes he isn't very hungry, so he puts back 1/5 of the dish -- eating just two fifteenths of the dish. The next guest takes 1/7 of the dish, but then puts back 1/9 of it. The third guest takes an eleventh, but then puts back a thirteenth. This continues for quite a while.

Two questions:
(a) What is the area of the dish that remains after the party is finished?
(b) What is the food we were eating?

Happy Monday, everyone!
Deliberately not posted in VSP... not really a puzzle.

The area of the dish is still 4 square meters.

The food is some kind of pi.

Well amount of meal left is SUM(-2/((4n)^2 - 1)) - 1 for n=0 to NumberOfGuests.
But I don't recognise it and I can't see any pi.
Perhaps the meal is Tart?

I was aiming to represent the series 4*(1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + ...). Not a great puzzle, I guess.

And it's not in VSP because the point was to say happy Pi day in a very GL fashion.

You did exactly that. It was obvious to me that the solution was in that series, but I didn't know how to find the sum of it, so I opted out on a technicality. The dish, as you asked, was still 4 square meters, even with less pi on it. Felicitous
