A while back, I thought it would be interesting to see a roll-and-move game where the dice don't dictate how many spaces you move, but the direction in which you move. Based on this germ of an idea, I created a prototype ruleset for a game I call Stumble-a-Pawn. While I have tried to come up with rules that allow for an amount of strategy while still having randomness and pressure, it has not been playtested at all. I'm not the best abstract strategy game player out there, and as such I am very reliant on the feedback of other people, especially those who are more experienced with abstracts, to ensure that the best possible game is developed around this idea. I can think of many potential ideas that may or may not improve the game (restricting piece rotation to 60 degrees at a time, allowing pieces to move more than one space in a straight line in one turn, changing the board layout), but only playtesting, I believe, can reveal what makes the game better.

I don't have any fancy-looking images like lexprod does for Strategic Bingo, but does anyone want to try to playtest the game on this forum? Felicitous

Edit: See also the thread on BoardGameGeek, where I have also solicited feedback.

Forgive me if it's not kosher to bump my own thread so soon, but based on feedback in the aforementioned BoardGameGeek thread, I've drafted another prototype ruleset. Keep in mind that neither of these rulesets has been playtested, so it might be best to playtest them before we start making changes to one or the other. . . .

Jangler and I have decided over AIM that we should play this game, with him being red and me being cyan. Here's my die roll to see who goes first!

Dice Roll:
Original Roll String: 1d6
1 6-Sided Dice Results: 5

The notation we will use is simple. See this board?

Use A, B, or C to indicate which pawn you're moving, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 to indicate the direction. So B2 means you're moving pawn B diagonally up and right

Thank you for the good sportsmanship, sir. *shakes your hand*

I almost typed "Thank you for the good sportsmanship, die." Was I thanking the dice, or telling you to die? o_o;

Let's try again. Playing this game multiple times is the best way for me to figure out what I need to do with it.

Original Roll String: 1d6
1 6-Sided Dice Results: 4
