Been using Flash for a long while now, web and swf based. Never use Apple stuff. But I keep on being told that Apple are not 'allowing' Flash, does this mean that even browser based applications will not work on Macs? What is the alternative? some folks tell me HTML5, but I can't make sense of this. I can't see how a HTML type language can possibly do the same things. Is there some other graphical type app for Online and Offline applications?

Cheers

Dojo/Ajax and HTML 5 now have as much capability as Flash, but they don't work unconnected unless you have all the .js files available. But we're only 5 years away from never being unconnected to the web.

jQuery is another option for advanced web development. It is much lighter-weight than Dojo, and I like it better, but don't tell my employer (IBM).

For advanced corporate web development, WebSphere Portlet Factory, soon to be renamed Web Experience Factory, is a great way to bridge back-end data sources to browser-based applications, including a lot of Web 2.0 Dojo/Ajax based stuff. (Its name is a misnomer -- it really is not dependent on WebSphere or Portal.) It happens to be the project I've been working on for the past 12 years, since long before it was an IBM product. (We were acquired in 2005.)

There was a recent announcement from Adobe to their Flash Developers that Flash content will be available for the iPhone.

Quote:
On September 9, Apple announced that it had lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines. This means that you can now create applications for iOS using the Adobe Flash Platform*. You heard right: We're really excited to bring this new capability to Flash designers and developers the ability to build standalone content for the Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad using the updated Packager for iPhone included with Adobe Flash Professional CS5 and with the AIR 2.0.5 SDK on Adobe Labs.

Having said that though, we have decided not to develop in Flash until the situation is more solid.

I think the main issue is with the iPads and iPhones -- they don't support flash.

Software wars. :-/

Is 'not support Flash' the same as not supporting shockwave? It seems there are 2 different players

Totally late bump, but I'd just like to add that these software wars have actually led to some big players in the streaming pornographic industry to adopt html5 (the open standard).
So that, at least, is a good thing (it also improves security on porn sites, for what its worth).
