Being the sweet tooth that I am, I often find that baked goods in Nz do not always make the grade. We especially fail when it comes to things like donuts and pies.

I love american foods, fruit pies, waffles, pankcakes, candy and so on, and importing them is too much hassle.
Yes, i have looked up recipies online, but the really good ones are often hiding within families, being passed down generation to generation.
So If you have any home recipies for desserts, or home baked goods, (like cookies, or other things I would like to eat) Could you please write them up in here, so I can make, bake, then educate my fellow New Zealanders on what real baking is. And If you're from europe, don't feel left out, there are some unique desserts over that way too, so post them up!

I have two words for you: Ina Garten

Anything baked that comes from her will be amazing.

I'm under standing orders to bring Sex in a Pan to any and every potluck or party. It's also just about the only thing I can make that doesn't end up en flambe.

Unamerican Pie
1. Buy eggs
2. Throw at Jedo the Jedi.
3. Buy takeaways instead

Variations: Throw at Chaz instead.

I am fond of grasshopper pie. It is pretty easy to make.. melted marshmallows, milk, heavy whipping cream, creme de menthe, and creme de cacao. Use an oreo crust (or oats and chocolate chips).
A recipe is online here

I usually use 32 marshmallows and slightly more of the alcoholic ingredients.

Not many outside the US call the American technique of distilling sugar to a pastry form "baking".

My grandfather was a chef, but not a pastry chef, so while we have fantastic recipes, they're not usually desserts. However, these muffins are so fantastic I want to plant two blueberry bushes now:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/to-die-for-blueberry-muffins/Detail.aspx

If you like pumpkin pie, my mom has one stuck somewhere in her head that I'll have to pay attention to next time she bakes one.

No-Bake Cookies (from my aunt):

No-Bake Cookies
3 cups Quaker oats 1-minute oatmeal *** The type of oats is (are?) important
½ cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sugar
1 stick butter
½ cup unsweetened chocolate
¾ cup milk

Combine oats, peanut butter, and vanilla in large bowl, set aside.
Place sugar, butter, chocolate, and milk in pot – boil for 3-4 minutes. Pour boiled mixture over oat mixture, mix well. Place in cake pan. Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Alternatively you can drop them into cookie globs.

Peanut butter frosting is fantastic, too. I made it once on a chocolate cake (or maybe chocolate brownies) and it was amazing. I'm making this on brownies for father's day. Hopefully most of it makes it on the brownies. Enthusiastic Grin

Coffee buttercream frosting is good, too. I'll have to find the exact recipe, it's at my parents' house, but it's basically butter, powdered sugar, and some instant coffee. Mmm. Awesome on chocolate cake.
