here's the original:
| Quote: |
| I have a little Boston Terrier who likes to play fetch with his Kong until he passes out. He's either "on" or "off", there's no in-between stage for him where he's just relaxing. He can't have any cute stuffed animal toys because he destroys them and pulls the stuffing out within five minutes of having the toy. If he's awake and not playing fetch, he would like to be going for a walk or cleaning up food in the kitchen while mommy's baking. He thinks the best sleeping spot is pressing against a human so they can keep him warm, even in summer. |

I think I only managed to remember about half of it as I passed it on. Only being able to read it once makes it hard to remember all of the details. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

I turned this:
I have a cute Boston Terrier named Kong. He can't have too many toys because he likes to tear them up. He likes to help mommy in the kitchen with the dishes.
into this:
I own a dashing Boston Terrier called Kong. He tends to destroy his toys so he shouldn't get too many of them. He also enjoys assisting my mother by doing the dishes. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

And that really is quite annoying. |

I was 9th and was both shocked and pleased that the message was so short...until I saw the original. I had enough of a problem trying to recreate the message I got.
I, too, would like to see all the replies.
Then maybe another round? The pics/words idea sounds interesting. |

[not in the telephone] I definitely messed up. [/don't repeat this]

I was tempted to include a "well I messed it up" line also-- but the one I got didn't help me concentrate. |

I think everyone tried, just at the beginning it was hard to remember all the details, and at the end, even with just a short message things were still getting changed, so I'm not surprised those with more info had a harder time. I figured it was a good paragraph when I couldn't really remember what I had just typed I'll post all the entries tonight when I'm not typing on my phone |

| I think I'd have done better with preparation. I should have had my message window to groza already open and waiting. Instead I read the message, closed it. opened the game threat to see who I was supposed to send it to, and then opened a new message window. That gave me time to forget the last sentence. |

The purpose is to copy the message exactly? I thought we were meant to rephrase and keep the meaning intact. I don't think I'll have any problem memorizing the exact words in an English paragraph, to be honest. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. The point isn't to memorize, either. The point is to read it only once, then reproduce it as close to the original as possible. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

"4. You will re-type that message and send it to the person below you. If you are the last person on the list, you will post the message here.
5. You can only read the message you receive once before re-typing and sending it "
I wouldnt bother quibbling over it. I'd shuffle the order and start round 2. |

Perhaps Antrax has an eidetic memory, and therefore has trouble understanding how it would ever change if people are just supposed to type the same thing that they read. Trust us, Antrax, we mere mortals don't remember that well.
Courk, put him first in the next round. |

No clue what an eidetic memory is, or why you seem offended about it. I'm trying to figure out what the goal was: should we try composing a message that conveys the gist of the message we read? Should we try and remember as accurately as possible? If we know we remember some sentence perfectly, are we expected to modify it a bit or not? _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. | The goal is to reproduce the message as accurately as possible. If you can reproduce it from memory exactly, do so. (The number of people who can do that is sufficiently limited that Courk didn't bother to give such rules.) |

Ah okay. The message I received was short enough that I could (did) reproduce it exactly, then I just went over what I wrote and replaced words with synonyms. How about a variation where we can copy the exact message but can either change 2 words...or add a single word with the intention to completely destroy the original message.
Word order could not otherwise change and the message must always continue to make sense...
If there's interest, I'll manage it. |

| Memorization would require (at least in my case) reading it several times, closing my eyes and going through it to see if I have it, reading it again to check, etc. |

Sounds charming. Anyway, there's also the one read-through memorization, where you sort of repeat each word to yourself, if the paragraph makes sense, it's probably enough to get the gist of it (i.e. not lose half the message ) _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. | Well sure, the first person got the gist of the message. They didn't make up anything new. But most of the details that make the message are quickly lost. |
