Hi there. I've been trying to find for several months the Official Strategy Guide of the old computer game Afterlife (LucasArts try in the sim genre, kinda like SimHell + SimHeaven rolled into one).
In my searches, one option keeps appearing as a tempting one. A used book from Shangri-La Books, in Houston, Texas, which Alibris shows as 5/5 Book condition and Reliability.
My lack of credit card and aversion to online purchases is stopping me every time, but I've also failed to find the book elsewhere on the net or real world. Though I'm averse to online purchases, I have no problem with Western Union, so the idea would be for someone to get it and send it to me, and I'd send the money via WU.
I don't know if Shangri-La books is a physical (ie, brick and mortar) book store, which if it is, saves a set of S&H costs if someone that is close gets it directly from there (that's why I asked for GLers around Houston). In any case, I've not managed to get any more concrete address than Houston, TX.
Thanks for your time, GL. _________________ Jan 21st, 2008: The pillaging continues.

| I don't think they have a physical address. I've spent more time than I should have googling and even checking yellow pages (Real ones!). If I think of another way to check, I'll let you know. |

What, 15 seconds is too long? Googling once found their website; Googling their phone number found this: http://www.2findlocal.com/shangri-la-books-houston-tx.html
I wouldn't hold my breath, but it can't hurt to contact them to see if they're willing to let somebody come by their office/warehouse/whatever to pick up an order. |

| Googling the first time, I got 3.6 million hits. I narrowed it by adding "Houston". You found it in Pasadena. Isn't that where they have the Rose Parade on New Year's Day? |

Let me unearth this, since the other time I failed to get it. The link in the first post now lists shops from Nevada, Oregon, and Wyoming, all at the reasonable price of $9.xx
So, I'm renewing my petition with payment via Western Union. _________________ Jan 21st, 2008: The pillaging continues.

Use a pre-paid card, instead of a credit card. Put only as much on it as the item costs. That way you can shop on-line safely, and you'll never have to worry about the card being "stolen". _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. I live in Salem, Oregon. I would venture a guess that the book is available from Powell's Books in Portland, but as I said that's only a guess. _________________ Sentran

Shall we include CA on the call, then? _________________ Jan 21st, 2008: The pillaging continues.
