You do that. It's the one team that stays on my list, no matter what. |

The way this year is going, you might want to pick the Pats and whoever the Pats are playing for your list. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

I'll understand if you don't want to share the secret to your spreadsheet, but do you just compare a teams offensive PPG vs. the defensive PPG of the team they are matched against?
I've tried that a few times, but I've always ended up with teams (or matchups) that I didn't feel comfortable with in my top 10-15. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

| It's not all that clever. For each team, I calculate a weighted (PF + opp's PA), where I'm giving the more recent games more weight. Then I sort according to home team values and pick the first N, then visitor team values and pick the first N. I choose N based on where there is a significant gap, and I tend to go a little deeper into the home teams than the visitor teams. |

Sounds pretty clever, actually.
I was once in a Winners Pick 'Em league for several years, then I read Gregg Easterbrook's TMQ column which showed that a simple formula of "better record wins, if records are equal, home team wins" consistently outperformed all ESPN analysts at picking winners. I adopted that method and won the league. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

The NFC North is still interesting.
The Packers should beat the 0 and 4 Rams but the Lions play the 4 and 1 Fortyniners. The tie might be broken.
Week 6 choices are due in fifty hours. |

OMG, I'm going to have a heart attack. The Patriots really pulled that one out of the fire. Of course, it just goes to show you -- we have Tom Brady, and you don't.
My chuckling false sympathy to any Cowboys fans out there. |

| I can't believe I listed the wrong team in the Dolphins-Jets matchup. Oh well, hopefully they'll outscore the Rams. I toyed with pulling a Dethy and listing everyone but the Rams this week |

An interesting stat for this thread - The Patriots have scored 30+ points in 13 consecutive regular season games, one shy of the record set by the "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams of 1999-2000.
In other words, stay away from the Patriots. This streak is sure to end soon. |

If I hadn't missed the first week, my "slow and steady" approach would have me right in the mix around 1400.
I guess if I was going to adopt that strategy, I shouldn't have missed a week. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

| Except that NO ONE scored the first week, and it's unlikely you would have, either. The wipeout teams were the Colts, the Chiefs, and the Steelers, all of which looked pretty good in the preseason. |

I highly doubt I would've taken any of those teams, and I don't think I've taken any of them yet.
Pittsburgh is a defensive team, and they played Baltimore in Week 1. I wouldn't have gone near them.
Indy's starting quarterback had come out of retirement 2 weeks before his first start and has a gray beard...I wasn't touching them either.
KC would have been the interesting one, especially since they were playing the Bills, who everyone assumed would be terrible. Given my slow and steady strategy, I believe I would have avoided them.
Actually, looking back, I was ultra-conservative at the start, so my total points would have been less, therefore I wouldn't be at 1400 anyway. Week 2 I only picked 4 teams. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |
