Most amusing, groza
Following that one through led me to a Youtube High School Musical video experience that I'm not sure I'm going to thank you for sharing with me!
(And I seem to have an extra 'K' in your sandwiches compared with the video, but I suspect that Youtube is more likely to be incorrect) |

It's a fish but with a *slightly* longer name
I don't know if many people have tried this one, but I think it's a very cute little puzzle, well worth messing about with.
A small hint: you might need a little geographical/historical research to get started here
Slightly bigger hint: Americans might find the number 50 helpful |

| Hmm, from the hints and clues in the puzzle description I know the answer, and I picked up two clues in the puzzle description, but I still don't know how to decode the sandwiches or why there are 18 of them. |

I think I might be on the right track here...
One clue in the riddle led me to think of islands, and I have some vague memory about the sandwich islands.
After a bit of research I found out that the Hawaiian islands used to be called the Sandwich islands.
That is also in accordance with Oscar's clues.
I also found that Hawaii has 8 major islands and 10 minor islands, atolls, and reefs... hence the 18 sandwiches.
I'm guessing that the order of the sandwich ingredients is a letter replacement code for the names of the islands.
I don't yet know how they relate to the answer, but I'd guess the state fish, or "Humuhumukununukuapua'a", even though that is 21 letters long.
Thoughts?[/spoiler] |

Sentran, that is extremely close. You want to put this one out since Oscar got a few earlier? |

| Sorry, but I'm not getting the last part (at least I don't think I am). I'm also relatively new to this site, so I don't know the protocol for posting, aside from "spoilers". |

| It seems way to complicated for this to be the answer, but every sandwich has tuna. The fish are following the tuna |

Ahh! I had a look at this earlier, but didn't know where to start.
Now I know the significance of "water all round".
Unfortunately I don't have time to work through it, but I might be able to help put it to bed.
Sentran, why don't you post what you have.
Oh and welcome btw. |

Ahh! [There appears to be an extra letter in each of the Island names]
My guess is that you need to find that to get your answer. I'll let you figure out the rest.
[Kanemiloha'i Hawai'i Puhahonu
Holoikauaua Nalukakala Mokupapapa
Lana'i Pihemanu O'ahu
Kaua'i Kaho'olawe Ni'ihau
Mokumanamana Moloka'i Kauo
Mokumana Maui Papa'apoho]
I'm not 100% sure the order is correct, I produced this list quite hastily. |

Thank you Jack_Ian!
Thanks to your clue, I found the answer.
[I was on the right track about the letter replacement code, and Jack's clue about extra letters in the code led me to the answer I guessed near the beginning. Three sandwiches have extra letters, and all together that makes 21. The extra letters, in order, spell out HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUAA, which is the state fish of Hawai'i, also known as the sandwich islands.] |

This will teach me to post before previewing my responses.
What I meant was [three of the sandwiches have 2 extra letters instead of one, which totals 21 extra letters]. |

| That is correct! New puzzle will be coming up in the next few days; I'm stuck in a low-internet environment currently. |
