No fancy story this time, just a basic puzzle that should lead to a one-word anwer. I'd like to try this without word lengths and see how it goes.
Pseudonym
A punctuation mark
TLC or STP song
One solution for constipation
Pertaining to ships, not your bellybutton
Takes place in a courtroom
One of the five basic tastes
Book of maps
Like most bathroom floors
Fencing weapons
First appearance
Take a yacht
A villian's secret hideout
Islamic spiritual leader
Where they prepare your cold cuts at a supermarket
Prayer ending
Magma
Seasoning, or Jolie flick
Hollow cylinder
A person of equal standing to you
Flow slowly
What you need in order to reload
The final clue is for an eight-letter word _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature.

I'm pretty sure I've got this one. No, I'm positive I have.
I think mixing the clue list up might have made it little more difficult. _________________

Not sure if I could have mixed it up any more that I did, and still allowed you to arrive at the final clue. I guess I could have left it as an anagram.
So, what do you have for the solution? _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Nice puzzle! (Also, Scurra gave the answer in spoilertext.)
Full answer:
The first twelve lines clue five letter words:
ALIAS, COMMA, CREEP, ENEMA, NAVAL, TRIAL, UMAMI, ATLAS, TILED, EPEES, DEBUTS.
Remove the first letter and reverse, and you get the answers for the next twelve lines (shuffled):
SAIL, LAIR, IMAM, DELI, AMEN, LAVA, SALT, TUBE, PEER, SEEP, AMMO.
The removed letters spell ACCENTUATED, and the song lyric is to "accentuate the positive". |

That wasn't the intended answer, no wonder I didn't get anything from the spoilertext. Keep thinking. I said that the final clue is for an eight-letter word, not that the solution is an eight-letter word. Think about as "ACCENTUATED (8)" _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Hmmm. Well, I don't get anything from your spoiler text either - since as far as I can see, my answer fits your final clue perfectly well (and ralphmerridew seemed to think the same thing.)
It's true that it is a largely unsatisfactory answer upon consideration (in terms of derivation and structure.) I think that Quailman's answer doesn't really work either (but it has a slightly better justification.) _________________

| I think that Quailman's answer would be better as either STRESSED or DESSERT. But you seem to be indicating he's not even close...[/spoiler] |

OK, that does actually seem pretty good to me having thought about it a bit more - although I agree with ralphmerridew that Q's answer is perversely wrong.
Does the second set of clues hint at the pair in any way? (This may be my obsession with elegance and obfuscation of course.) _________________

The intended answer was indeed DESSERT. ACCENTUATED = STRESSED which follows the puzzle format to make DESSERT.
Since you had been finding words that minus the first letters were other words spelled backward, I thought the leap from ACCENTUATED to find another word that would work similarly was decent, especially since I provided the word length.
Extra points for coming up with POSITIVE and having someone support it as correct. That means you did a good job and the puzzle was less than optimal. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Hopefully this one will go better...no promises:
Plant whose juices are used as skin ointment
Opening of the alimentary canal
Greek god of war
Donkey
A small piece of a movie
Not hot
Clue
Precedes "then" logically, follows "what" fancifully
Not yes
Violent public disorder
Wedge or mule
Take a seat
Some wear these in the kitchen
Data

A muse
Aid

The first list is in alphabetical order, and seemingly pretty obvious:
ALOE
ANUS
ARES
ASS
CLIP
COLD
HINT
NOW IF
NO
RIOT
SHOE
SIT
The next list might be alphabetical - nothing obvious for the 2nd and 3rd, and the last item contradicts itself...
APRONS
Data
Taught
ERATO
HELP
THERE AREN'T ANY
[edited for following post] I should have noticed that NOW - NO are not alphabetical.[/e]

Only NOW is incorrect from the first list, but it does fit the clue perfectly. I've modified. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

There are 12 items in the first list and 6 in the second; maybe 2 in the first correspond to 1 in the second?
From the revised clues, "NOW" should be "IF". |

2nd list:
HAIRNETS = ARES + HINT
INFO = IF + NO
SCHOOLED = COLD + SHOE
CALLIOPE = ALOE + CLIP
ASSIST = ASS +SIT
RAIN OUTS = ANUS + RIOT
NB these are formed from alternate picks from source words:
e.g. HAIRNETS = HINT (1,3,5,7) + ARES (2,4,6,8) |

| You can anagram the first letters to spell "CHAIRS". |

I guess you could do that, but that is less fun.
The intention was to take the 2 new words, HIS and CAR, and follow the puzzle format of alternating letters to get CHAIRS. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |
