It's 2012 in Samoa, so here we go....
Happy New Year! by Art Rock (Hennie), on Flickr
As 2011 draws to a close, my wife and I wish all GL'ers a great 2012. Make it a good one - dare to dream and dare to try to make those dreams reality. The past few months have seen us through two major decisions that will start next year. First, I have decided to take the option of early retirement in the middle of the year (at age 55) to fully enjoy life. Secondly, we have finally settled where our future will be. After a roller coaster of options throughout the year, with us seriously looking at Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Germany, we will in the end stay in Holland. We have bought a three centuries old house/shop combination in the medieval city of Kampen. My wife will be using the shop as studio and gallery to display her art, and I am sure that the medieval surroundings will do wonders for our photographic inspiration. We have dared to take the leap - I advice you to do the same! _________________ My photography:

That sounds cool! I'm looking forward to pictures of it, the city, and, as always, pics of the lovely Bambi / Lu are always appreciated.
Happy New Year, Grey Labyrinth!! |

As the year slowly comes to an end (11 hours to go, sigh), I also reflected on 2011. It was a year of accidental change that I hope will result in purposeful change in the upcoming year.
From having a job that expected absolutely nothing of me, re-learned how much I love clay/pottery/ceramics. I also learned what would be required to turn it into a profession. Although such endeavors will take time, the seeds have been planted. At the very least, my engineering degree is an excellent backup.
I also grew up a little bit in the area of human interactions. Mostly because things didn't go my way. Hopefully something better comes from those experiences. But until then...sigh.
So the highlights of 2012 hopefully will be
- The pottery conference just outside of Aukland (March)
- Selling my house
- Getting a work visa to New Zealand
- Moving away!
May the best parts be unplanned.
10.5 hours to go! I got distracted... |

Happy 2012 (very late...we slept in)
2011 held a lot for me (in the way of impact, not number of items):
- my sister now has three kids
- we bought a house and moved from Boston to RI
- we bought a car (because our old car died) just yesterday, to round out 2011.
In 2012 one big plan:
- get pregnant
Should be an exciting year. Happy New Year, GL.
(ps DP, can you post some pics of your house? It sounds awesome) |

I hope to be back at least here and there in 2012.
May you be blessed j_s, and hope everyone gets a positive year. |

Good luck!
Some brochure shots:
It's the shop/house (the 2.5 layers on top of it) in the center.
The shop, which we will turn into Bambi's gallery.
The house part has a large living room/dining room/kitchen (above), a large office, two great bedrooms, a big bathroom and a small storage under the roof. And a dungeon basement. _________________ My photography:

Pics are great; the place looks awesome. Remind me not to get on your bad side (though if I ever make it to Holland, I plan to drop in for a visit.) |

| I like the arrangement of studio and living space. I could live in house of that style. |
