He's not, but he is in the Polar Bear Club with some cute chick. That's got to be close. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Not married, came close enough once. Now I get to enjoy being single and reckless! But wouldn't playing long words that allow your SO to play better words increase their enjoyment of the game?
The polar bear club usually involves jumping in water, no? From a heat transfer view, getting in icy water is much worse than standing in -40 air. |

I play WordsByPost regularly on the iPhone.
I thought you Scrabble players might enjoy discussing tactics for the following endgame:
I considered playing UTOPIA as shown, but I was worried about exposing the TW to my opponent.
BTW There's a DW under the T and a TL under the A.
In the end I made a different move, invissed below.
What would you have done?
You should know that you get 5 points for being first to finish and then points are taken from your opponent based on the tiles that remain.
I'm still waiting for my opponent to make his move. I'll let you know how it went.

I lost! mjh888 played HILTED in that very same spot to win the game 378-355.
I still think I made the right choice though. |

Some input from a very good Scrabble player I know:
| Quote: |
Yes, I think that was a very reasonable risk. When you add the 22 points to your score, you are 17 pts ahead. Your opponent has 6 tiles left. If he wants to take advantage of the TW, the board will not allow him to use all 6 tiles. You would then play your E, taking the pts for your word, plus pts for tiles in his rack and bonus pts for going out. If he plays elsewhere, you gave yourself the most amount of pts possible which you needed to do since he was ahead. Let me know how it turns out.
Years ago I read that Scrabble is not about the words, it's about the points and the strategy. Just a slightly different way of looking at it. |
Now I'm thinking I should have gone for UTOPIA. |

I think UTOPIA was the right choice, too.
It puts you 17 points ahead, and he probably* can only use 4 tiles if he uses that TW, so he'll have 3 tiles left. Even tripled, he probably will be playing, at best, a 10-point word, tripled, putting him 13 points up.
You'll be able to make something with that E, for 6 points at least (PEA and EL), and you get +5 for going out and he loses whatever his 3 remaining tiles are worth. Even if they are single point letters, you win by one.
*He possibly could use 5 letters by going down next to UTOPIA and making four 2-letter words. If he can do that, you're screwed anyway. |

| His best word that uses the TW is HEIL, for 21 and leaving ITD in his hand. |

Actually, he could put HIDE next to OPIA to make
HIDE = 24
OH = 5
PI = 3
ID = 9
AE = 2
for 43 points.
So (if he found it) you were going to lose anyway. |

I showed it to Water, who is an excellent scrabble player, this is what she said

So there ya go, that's all i can do for this conversation _________________ The Man The Myth The Legend
