Okay, I think I've got it. Each word is comprised of elemental abbreviations found on the periodic table. Furthermore, all the abbreviations which build each word are, in each case, to be found together in a specific row or column of the table (the row/column in question, of course, is different for each word) except[/] for one abbreviation in each word, which breaks the pattern by turning up in a [i]different row or column. For example, the elements which comprise the word "CARPAL" (C Ar P Al) are all found in the 3rd row of the table, except for C, which is in the second row. So we isolate C and move on to the next word.
Doing this for each word gives us C O Rn Y Cl ?? Es. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that, since there's a Sherlock Holmes theme at play here, that the remaining element is a U that gives C O Rn Y. Cl U Es. Corny clues, of course, would certainly make the production worse.
Call in Corny Clues. |

CORNY CLUES is correct. Bien.
There are really no video game nerds here? "Audio Games" is actually a pretty enjoyable puzzle. |

I want to like Audio Games, but it's frustrating me to feel like I know them all but can't place any of them.
I've spent some time trying old NES games I used to play on web-based emulators, but I haven't stumbled across any of the songs. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

There's only one that I would say is semi-obscure, and even that's a stretch...they're all pretty well known games. |

I tried Punch-Out, ExciteBike, Ice Hockey, Double Dribble.
It either wasn't any of those, or else I stink at matching these tunes. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Looking back at my list, maybe I played too many sports games when I was a kid. I also played TecmoBowl, Blades of Steel, California Games. Seems like every game I had outside of the 3 Mario Bros. was a sports game.
I'll find a list of top NES games and give them a quick play tonight. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Oh, definitely. I would never have thought of "elementary, my dear watson" and element symbols in a million years. I'm curious how it came about, too. |

Greg rocks! But now what?
I would have thought of "Elementary, my dear Watson" as a clue for elements, and I'm quite sure I have used it as a clue for this in the past.
I just don't think I would have put Sherlock Holmes = "Elementary, my dear Watson" = elements together. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Wouldn't the next step be to identify what's going on in the game from the sound effects?
Is it just me that finds it suspicious that the clips are 26 seconds each? |

I have to admit that with this one I listened to the first few, realised that I didn't know them, and stopped. If I had got to the end I would have recognised Super Mario Bros. straight away...
And yes, I agree that the 26 seconds thing is clearly indicating a letter match in each clip somehow.
Anyway, for #7 it sounds like the very beginning of the game - run along, jump on a whatsit, hit a block to create a mushroom, jump into the mushroom and grow. It all sounds very convincing to me. _________________

I'll get the new puzzle ready in a couple minutes, but here's a hint to put this puzzle to bed.
1. Suspence and Greg's identifications are all correct.
2. The "All are 26 seconds" insight is a good one.
3. If you've played the games, there's something a bit off about each clip. |

It's been that way on all puzzles...You have to resist the urge, it's part of the challenge, knowing you are only a click away from the answer, yet devoting hours of your life to come up with it the right way. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

That's something to consider: hosting the hunt in two formats, with and without solutions.
But, yeah...willpower is key. I'd rather not put each separate puzzle in a solution-free location. Lots of work for me. |

| Oh, I see, each card on top fills in the gaps of two of the 3 words of one card on the bottom. Assuming they all match up, that leaves 38 words on the bottom that are unmatched. What then? |

Wrong again, the 38 words on the bottom match up in 19 pairs, it seems. So now we have 57 words. |

Words are in groups of 5, where the first 2 are on a card in the top half, the first three are on a card in the second half, the last 2 are on a card in the bottom half, and the last 3 are on a card in the second half. For instance,
SEVEN
VIRGO
PORGY
SKYPE
LEASE
is from r7c1 in the top, r1c1 on the bottom, r6c1 on top, and r6c3 on bottom.
Keeping in the theme, PORGY has a natural match of BESS... not sure about the others. LEND/LEASE, perhaps?
Let's try another:
ROGUE
RHYME
LIFTS
VIOLA
MCFLY
(bottom: r1c2, r1c5; top: r5c2, r1c5). RHYME or REASON... OK, not so useful. |

CANOE
THANX
PEKOE
TORSO
SHREK
top: r1r1, r4r4; bottom: r2c4, r1c3. No real partners of any of these words, I don't think. I sure hope this doesn't have to do with the way in which the letters are cut into two pieces. That would get messy. |

I'm sure I'm not the only one who noted, but all words start with F, H, I, T or P, and there are 12 of each.
There are 60 words and 12 clues, 5 words in each.
This seems to suggest each line needs a word from each letter group. In all the ones we have F starts the 4th word. Could be a coincidence, or the same letters might need to start every word in a given position.
EDIT: Most of the I's would seem a logical starting point. I'd guess Word 1 in all 12 groups must start with I. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

I think I've confirmed my previous post.
First words match with I. Second words match up with H lengths, 3rd to T, 4th to F, 5th to P. Then some words seem to fit logically into place:
1 Immigration ??????? To & From Places
2 Implement ??????? Technologies For ????????
3 ?????????? ???? Transfer ????? ??????????
4 ?????????? ???? ??????? ?????? ??????????
5 Introduction: Highways & Traffic Flows Planning
6 Introduction: Human ??????? ??????? ????????

8 Immunotherapies: Historical Therapies For Pathogens
