Quiz Olympiad II. Current champion is Duke Gnome.

A quiz knockout game. Using the Honesty quiz rules...no research permitted, with players on their honour to abide by this rule. Answers are PM'ed to me. There must be no discussion of questions in the forum until the round is closed. Any queries, PM to me please.

Round 1 is Closed, and no-one else may join the game.

Players
1st Scurra - our new champion
2nd MNOWAX
3rd Dented Ford and referee
5th jesternl

Eliminated:
Round 1: Dethwing, Zag
Round 2: DMTsurel, Jesus_Saves
Round 3: Duke Gnome, lexprod
Round 4: Suspence, novice, Undercover Monk

The 10 questions of each round will be on different subjects (more or less). To eliminate problems with accuracy of player answers, all questions will be multiple choice with 3, 4 or 5 options. All a player needs to do is choose one answer option for each question. Answer options will be in a form of alphabetic order so it's possible to have all A's or even all E's for answers but don't expect an even spread of answers.

Players will NOT need to sign up in advance, just submit answers for round 1. The lowest scoring player(s) of each round will be eliminated. If only one player is eliminated by this, then the next lowest score might also be used to eliminate players...unfortunately this will have to be at my discretion.

I will aim for the game to go around 5-6 rounds so expect around 20% of the original number of contestants to be eliminated each round.

The deadline for a round will be approximately a week. I suspect the game will flow quicker than that. Current players failing to submit answers by the deadline will be eliminated but I will do what I can to avoid such an event. I shall PM a reminder to any players I'm waiting for.

Scores in previous rounds are irrelevant. You just need enough right answers in a round to get you into the next round. When we are down to 4 or 5 players then we will have a final round where high score wins the game.

I'm still acquiring questions so it'll be at least a week before this kicks off.

(The previous game is on the first page of visitor games, ended Sept 2011 if you want to see how it works.)

Yay! For you new guys, I want to endorse 3iff's quiz games heartily. He always hits a very nice balance of questions. The only real problem with them is that he lets Duke Gnome, Scurra, and the like compete, so we mortals don't stand a chance.

Olympiad Round 1

Honesty quiz rules apply...no research permitted, with players on their honour to abide by this rule. Answers are PM'ed to me. There must be no discussion of questions in the forum until the round is closed. Any queries, PM to me please.

The 10 questions of each round will be on different subjects. To eliminate problems with accuracy of player answers, all questions will be multiple choice with 4 or 5 options. All a player needs to do is choose one answer option for each question. Answer options will generally be in alphabetical order so it's possible to have all A's or all D's for answers.
Options are normally ordered in alphabetic order but don't assume anything if I accidentally mis-order options...

Any questions deemed invalid due to confusing wording or incorrect answer options will be excluded from the round.

The lowest scorers of each round will be eliminated. I aim to eliminate about 20% of the starting player total in each round.

You just have to send me your answers for round 1 and you're in the game. This first round will remain open for about 2 weeks or until new entries dry up. Later rounds will be roughly 1 per week.

Note: You almost certainly won't know all the answers unless you're a genius but it's ALWAYS worth having a guess.

I shall PM any likely contestants if they don't submit an entry...as I know some players don't always look in here.

Questions are spoilered below. Good luck.

7  Duke Gnome, jesternl
6  Dented Ford, referee, lexprod
5  novice, DMTsurel, Undercover Monk, Jesus_saves, MNOWAX

4  Zag
2  Dethwing

An average of 5.7 for the 14 contestants. Two players fail to make the cut while five players survive on 5 points.
Goodbye to Zag and Dethwing.

Quite a wide spread of scores, not really surprising for the first round. Just remember, a good score here is not indicative of success in future rounds. Lots of guessing required but some players eliminated the impossible (or unlikely) and often came up with a correct answer.

Round 2 is likely to arrive Thursday. It will close when all the current contestants have sent an entry...or I get tired of waiting.

Does it include a way of knowing what each person selected for each question?

That would certainly keep it interesting, and potentially embarrassing! We could have a Surge Protector moment.
