The HDMI output seems to have stopped working. I can plug my TV in to it, and it recognizes my TV as a monitor, but the TV still says "No Signal" (as opposed to the "Check signal Cable" when the HDMI cable is unplugged from the computer)

As background: Last night it was working just fine. I can't remember going to any strange websites, just here, XKCD, and the straight dope. Today when I turned on my computer, it wouldn't show up on the TV. My virus scanner found a virus somewhere in an nvidia file, which I had it fix/remove (I can't remember what option came up). I have since updated nvidia, and then uninstalled it and reinstalled a slightly older version. None of those work, and I have no idea what else to do.

Laptop: Samsung NP QX411 W01US, running Windows 7 64 bit
TV: Samsung UN46B6000

OK, well, that was weird. I ended up having to uninstall my Intel HD graphics card and driver, then when I reinstalled it, it installed the graphics thingy and audio... which based on some other similar searches, the audio is the actual problem.

If someone can actually explain that to me in terms I understand, that'd be fantastic. Felicitous

yes. HDMI transmits both video and audio in their cords. when one doesn't
work, neither of them do.

It's not working again. I again had done nothing different. It worked last night, I shut down my computer, and went to bed. Tonight, when turning on the laptop, it won't show on the TV. I tried different HDMI ports, different HDMI cords, nothing works. I'm still getting a different message on the TV when the cord is unplugged vs plugged in, so it seems to recognize it. The TV shows as a display, too.

I uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers and reinstalled them. Same with the Intel drivers. It's NVIDIA Geforce 520M and something like Intel HD 3000. My audio things are showing as Realtek High Definition Audio (and that's what's running for my laptop when the TV is unplugged) and High Definition Audio Device that it recognizes is the Samsung TV. I can't remember from last time -- should I have an Intel HDMI audio driver, too? Where can I get one?

I uninstalled NVIDIA and Intel graphics from the device manager -- should there have been another step that I missed?

Additional info:
Shortly after posting that it wasn't working again, I just started browsing with my laptop. I noticed there was no sound, but I had dropped the wireless keyboard, so I figured something got hit. I rebooted for about the dozenth time tonight, sound worked on restart. When the battery was starting to die, I plugged it in, and out of habit plugged in the TV. And now it's working again.

I'm really baffled by this. Loose HDMI socket on the computer? Can that be replaced? But why would it work one night and then not the next when it hadn't been unplugged or moved?

Maybe some of your components are configured to switch off when running on battery power.

It is, but it was plugged in the entire time it wasn't working. I checked that at least 3 times

Your computer is possessed. You must purge the demons. Not with holy water, but with holy canned air. Good luck.

It's gotta be a loose HDMI port. It doesn't seem to me a software glitch would happen like that.

It's possible that the power cord is intermittently working, which would cause the HDMI port to randomly not function.
