After a flurry of rapid finger-pointing in the morning, the town becomes relatively quiet and subdued for most of the day. By the time evening fell, no majority had been reached, so Jedo the Jedi was led up to the dais as a person of interest.

The High Septon appeared almost bored with the proceedings as he asked if Jedo had anything to confess. Jedo simply shook his head, his typical smirk missing for a change.

Without King Joffrey to call for his headsman, and with the recently crowned King Tommen notably absent from the beheading, the task fell to one of the many nameless guards. As Jedo's head sat in a pool of spreading blood, the guard rifled through his pockets and came across a black card bearing the following information.

Player:
Jedo the Jedi Quailman Jedo the Jedi
Role Name: Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, Master of Coin
Role: Mafia Roleblocker

FINAL VOTE COUNT
Day 8, 5 alive, 3 to lynch
Code:

 Undercover Monk (1): 3iff
Jedo the Jedi (2): itisally, Undercover Monk
-------------------------
Not voting (2): The_Great_Crep’er, Jedo the Jedi

It is now night. Night will end in approximately 96 hours, since it includes a weekend.

The few who remain wake to yet another death. Sansa Stark was thrown from a tower after having been run through. With her death, the Starks no longer have a presence in the city. The denizens of King's Landing can only hope that those left alive have their best interests at heart.

With 3 left alive, it will take 2 to lynch.

Well I finally got something right. I should have followed my gut all along. I will do so now with the one person who has successfully stayed under the radar most of the game while posting enough to not be lurking. He was given the benifit of the doubt in the begining because of limited computer access and then there always seemed to be bigger fish to fry.

[quote="3iff"]I am Ser Ilyn Payne, town. I have no tongue yet may force my disability on another, but just once.
This commits them to silence for the rest of the day. (I also perform the executions as commanded by the town lynch votes but that appears to be a cameo role.)[quote]

I went back to read the town lynches and found that the only ones that Ser Ilyn Payne fulfilled were the ones that the king ordered. A cameo? perhaps, it was flavor text, however; they only time Payne is mentioned is when 3iff is on the lynch. What a clue! It confirms the role in a way,but does make you look like a bad guy.

Vote: 3iff

Thanks for your time The Great Crep'er... see you in the next one!

why did they kill TGC that was dumb unless itisally is mafia. in which case i will heartily congratulate her. but it just wouldnt have made sense for her to argue with me when she could have ended it. 3iff you should have killed ally then tried to turn TGC on me. Jedo last turn shouldnt have bowed ot to the pressure as TGC never made a vote. Regardless Im tired of this game time to put the giant to sleep. For better or worse I have done my best to rid the town of villians I Vote: 3iff and hope to win not my alternate but my primary win condition. Good game all its time to prepare for survivor.

I'm not sure if 3iff is even back from holiday yet. He was gone from Thursday until sometime today, I think. Regardless, I'll close the game shortly.

Due to the amount of content I have for this game, I will be making multiple posts.

Day 9, 3 alive, 2 to lynch
Final Vote Count
Code:

            3iff (2): itisally, Undercover Monk
-------------------------
      Not voting (1): 3iff

”Revenge!” yelled Sandor Clegane, commonly known as the Hound.
“Blood!” shouted Bronn, a mercenary formerly in the employ of Tyrion Lannister.
“Justice!” shouted the smallfolk of King’s Landing.
The decision was made in a flash, and 3iff was led to the block. For a man who claimed to have no tongue, he suddenly became very talkative. “I am the best swordsman in the land! My sister was Queen! How dare you impune the name of my family! Guards! White Cloaks! Stop them!”
Jaime Lannister’s cries were in vain, and soon his blood added to the dark stain that would never be completely removed from this city. His card was black as night, and with that, the fog that had been plaguing the city for months began to lift.

Player: 3iff
Role Name: Jaime “Kingslayer” Lannister, Knight of the Kingsguard
Role: Mafia Enforcer

With all threats to the Town removed, the Town are the faction winners of this game.
HOWEVER…
There is also an individual winner of this game. Having completed his hunt to kill Joffrey Lannister, the Hound (Undercover Monk) is the official winner of this game of Mafia!

Second, my behind-the-scenes post.
(Warning: HUGE post. It has death scenes too)

When LIML and I were creating this game, we discussed order of precedence for night actions. As an experiment, we decided to conclude night actions by timestamp on entry. In other words, the first action submitted would take place first, and so on. We did not inform the players of this, since it would cause an unfair advantage to certain players/factions.

I made an offhand comment just before the game started, and LIML called me on it. Durryn had mentioned that he wanted to be Jon Snow, and I (without thinking) stated that Jon Snow was not in the game. LIML said that knowing a character that was not in the game gave an advantage to one player. That’s why I added the part about characters that were NOT in the game; to put all of the players on an equal footing.

I was originally intending to have Robb Stark as a character, rather than Stannis and Renly Baratheon. LIML pointed out that Robb had never been to King’s Landing, and when I ended up with 21 players instead of 20, I created an extra role in what I felt was a balanced manner.

NIGHT ONE ACTIONS
1. The mafia is given a single safe claim: Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers.
2. Deception asks the following question: Does Silverfire have the same alignment as me?
(as in, town, mafia, serial killer, etc). Answer: Yes.
3. Captin Aniima roleblocks Deception (ineffective, as his ability was already used).
4. Durryn targets Fritzler to receive a piece of random truthful information: A little bird informs you that Eddard Stark has been asking questions.
5. Novice protects Jedo the Jedi and Undercover Monk.
6. Ohcapt13 targets Durryn, which randomly redirects to MNOWAX (Pycelle), who has no surname.
7. Jedo roleblocks Elethiomel.
8. Elethiomel is informed that he overhears nothing.
9. Cloudrunner kills Fritzler, death scene posted to both.

NIGHT 1 DEATH SCENE
Joffrey visits Cersei late in the night, finding her in bed with Robert’s squire, Lancel Lannister, one of her cousins.
Enraged, he shouts “Where is my father.”
“Your father is dead,” claims Cersei calmly, while pulling on a robe. The cousin moves to rise from the bed, but Cersei holds up a hand and he quiets and settles, glancing around furtively.
Joffrey’s face reddens. “Fine. If you insist upon continuing this lie, where is your twin brother, my ‘uncle’ Jaime?” says Joffrey with a sneer in his voice.
“He is out searching for your enemies, to silence them.” Cersei ties her robe and stands beside the bed.
“He would have had better luck if he’d stayed closer to you, it appears. I have heard what is being said in town, mother. It is already apparent that you lay with relatives. Tell me, honestly, is Jaime my father?”
Cersei crossed the room quickly and moved to slap Joffrey across the face, but he raised his hand quickly to block the strike. A strange sneer played across his lips as Lancel began to raise himself from the bed. “I believe I have my answer,” he said. “Payne! Take my mother and Lancel and throw them in the tower.”
Ilyn Payne, who was apparently waiting nearby, move quickly into the room .
Cersei’s face flushed with anger. “You can’t! I’m the regent, your mother, and a widow! The people will never stand for this!” Cersei began speaking more quickly as it became apparent that Joffrey would not budge. “Wait until Jaime hears of this! He will not rest until I am freed!”
At this, Joffrey paused, looking back to Cersei. “That I believe is true. While you live, he will not rest.” He then turned towards the headsman. “Kill them both,” he exclaimed quietly. “I am quite finished with taking orders from her.”

Cersei Lannister (Fritzler, Mafia Godfather) was night killed by Joffrey Baratheon (cloudRunner, Serial Killer)

At this point we realized that the timestamp idea was flawed. If the roleblock occurred after an action, the action would go through, essentially removing the roleblock’s effect. We decided to go with a slightly more standard version, where roleblocks occur first, followed by other non-kill actions, followed by kill actions. The individual actions would still occur in timestamp order (such as the two roleblockers targeting each other, for example).

NIGHT TWO ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)
1. Captin Aniima roleblocks novice.
2. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks novice.
3. Ohcapt13 targets itisally, finding that the closest thing she has to a surname is (Bronn) “of the Blackwater”.
4. novice protects Elethiomel and Undercover Monk (invalid, as he was roleblocked).
5. Durryn targets Garou_Kinfolk to receive a piece of random truthful information: A little bird informs you that Tyrion Lannister was seen playing dice in a brothel with men from Winterfell.
Elethiomel is informed that he overhears the following: You overhear your mother’s voice, refusing a man’s offer of safe passage out of King’s Landing.
6. Mafia votes to kill Elethiomel.
7. Cloudrunner kills novice, death scene posted to both.
8. 3iff kills Elethiomel, death scene posted to Elethiomel and Mafia QT.

NIGHT 2 DEATH SCENE 1
Lady Catelyn, having followed her husband to King’s Landing with important news, found herself trapped after Eddard’s execution. She refused Littlefinger’s offer of safe passage from the city, as she had begun to have misgivings about his involvement in her husband’s death. After some consideration, she dispatched several of her own guards to protect those she felt were on her side. This proved all too quickly to be a mistake, as she was taken before she was even within sight of the city gate. The Kingsguard themselves dispatched what was left of her personal guards, and brought her before the King.
“My father was a fool to have trusted the Starks,” said King Joffrey. “They have brought nothing but trouble since their arrival in King’s Landing.”
“It appears that my late husband was a fool to have trusted the Lannisters,” spat Catelyn, anger flushing her cheeks. “Now my husband is dead, my daughters are missing, and I expect that I am next. At least I may take comfort that my son will send you to the Stranger for what you have done.”
Joffrey went red with rage and stood from the Iron Throne. “Payne! Put this traitor’s head on the pike next to her husband’s! I want all to see what it means to cross me!”
Ilyn Payne, always silent but always present, detached himself from the shadows and moved to do his King’s bidding…

Catelyn Stark (novice, Non-standard Protector) was night killed by Joffrey Baratheon (Serial Killer)

NIGHT 2 DEATH SCENE 2
As she crept out of a building through a back door into a dirty alleyway in the unsavory part of town, a slender man grabbed Arya Stark by the arm. “Watch where you’re going, boy…” said Petyr Baelish, then paused and looked more closely at who he had caught. A grin crossed his lips. “Chopping off the hair was a good trick, but I’d recognize your father’s eyes anywhere. Come with me, young Lady Stark. I have a few people that would like a word with you.”
A few moments later there is a small assemblage gathered to discuss the brief future of Arya Stark. Also in attendance are Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister and Grand Maester Pycelle. Pycelle advocates mercy, while Tywin reminds everyone that the best course of action is the one that was taken after Mad King Aerys was slain: to remove all traces of the person’s bloodline. “So long as the Starks survive, they can be a threat to the throne. Now that the head has been removed, we should strike while the shock is still fresh in their minds.” Littlefinger, ever the opportunist, suggests keeping her alive as a hostage.
At that point Jaime walks over to Arya and grabs hold of her chin to look her in the eye. “I do not much care for these Starks, spies and sneaks all, and with tongues that are far too loose for my liking. In fact, I believe the only good Stark,” he paused, sliding a dagger quickly and quietly through her grimy tunic and into her chest, “is a dead Stark.”
Arya opened her mouth to scream, but all that came out was a whisper as blood bubbles from her throat. As the lights began to fade, Arya overheard Jaime saying “Now, where did you say that Catelyn was heading?”

Arya Stark (AKA Elethiomel, Eavesdropper) was night killed by the Mafia.

The change in priority seems to be preferable to Night 1. We will be continuing with that order.

NIGHT THREE ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. Captin Aniima roleblocks cloudRunner, stopping his night kill.
2. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks spyrl, shutting off her vengeance kill ability.
3. Ohcapt13 targets Captin Aniima, finding out her surname is Lannister.
4. Durryn targets Garou_Kinfolk to receive a piece of random truthful information: A little bird informs you that one of Chataya’s working girls was severely beaten by a patron.
5. cloudRunner decides not to make a night kill (ironic, since he was blocked).
6. The mafia chooses to nightkill itisally (invalid, as she is Bulletproof).

NIGHT 3 MESSAGE TO THE MAFIA

Jaime Lannister searches the city for itisally, but she cannot be found. Every avenue, every brothel, everywhere and anywhere you look, but to no avail. Your target has eluded you, and the Mafia has no night kill this evening.

NIGHT FOUR ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. Captin Aniima roleblocks cloudRunner, stopping his night kill.
2. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks spyrl, shutting off her vengeance kill ability.
3. Durryn targets Garou_Kinfolk to receive a piece of random truthful information: A little bird informs you that the King should not lead with his dragon.
4. Zag redirects the Mafia’s kill to target Garou_Kinfolk, hoping that the kill will go through even if the Enforcer is blocked.
5. cloudRunner chooses to nightkill itisally (doubly invalid, as she is Bulletproof and he was roleblocked).
6. The mafia chooses to nightkill Garou_Kinfolk.

NIGHT 4 MESSAGE TO CLOUDRUNNER
King Joffrey and Ilyn Payne search the city for itisally, but she cannot be found. Every avenue, every brothel, everywhere and anywhere you look comes to no avail. Your target has eluded you, and you have no night kill this evening.

NIGHT 4 DEATH SCENE
Ever since this dirty business began, Jeyne had been spending her nights in hiding. After the death of the King, as the Starks were systematically removed, she realized that keeping a low profile was her only hope of survival. She changed her location regularly, afraid that she would be discovered at any moment. She had not had a decent night’s sleep since Septa Mordane passed away. Then there were the birds.
Every night a random person would approach and drop a tidbit of information, claiming it was from a “little bird.” The person was never the same, and the information was confusing at best. It did nothing to improve Jeyne’s temperament or sleep habits. She knew that she should stay further away from the town square, but she had to know who was going to be the next to be killed. It was there, in a filthy closed-up bakery just around the corner from the square, that Jeyne was fitfully trying to sleep when the door burst in.
Jaime Lannister stood there, sword in hand, with his father at his back. Jaime glanced over at Jeyne and shook his head with a smile. “I thought Littlefinger said it was the Stark girl in here,” he said. “She is nobody.”
“Dispatch her anyway,” replied Tywin Lannister. “I don’t want her informing the Stark girl of our actions.”
“Littlefinger would likely want us to follow her to Sansa’s hiding place,” said Jaime.
“She’s already seen our faces, do you really think her that much a fool as to lead us to the girl now?”
“Very well,” replied Jaime, and raised his sword…

Jeyne Poole (AKA Garou_Kinfolk, Mason) was night killed by the Mafia.

NIGHT FIVE ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. Captin Aniima roleblocks cloudRunner, stopping his night kill.
2. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks cloudRunner, doubly stopping his night kill.
3. Durryn targets itisally to receive a piece of random truthful information: A little bird informs you that forces are attempting to manipulate the King.
4. cloudRunner chooses to nightkill itisally (triply invalid, as she is Bulletproof and he was roleblocked twice).
5. The mafia chooses to nightkill Durryn.

NIGHT 5 MESSAGE TO CLOUDRUNNER
Irritated at being thwarted on the previous night, King Joffrey has his guards grease the palms of a few unsavory characters around town in the hopes of finding information about the night haunts of itisally. The small amount of coin, with the promise of more should the information bear fruit, soon proves its worth as a young and dirty boy comes to the kitchen gate asking to speak to Ilyn Payne. The message is from a back-alley tavern with a sour smell and a poor reputation. Since the King knows he cannot be seen in such an establishment, he sends a pair of trusted guards with his headsman. They return a short time later, and the guards explain that itisally was there earlier in the evening, but had left before they arrived. The bartender claimed to try to have her followed, but she eluded her pursuers. Furious, Joffrey demands to know what happened to the bartender. The guards swallow visibly, as Ilyn Payne draws a finger across his neck. Once more, you have been denied your kill.

NIGHT 5 DEATH SCENE
Durryn receives a message to attend an important late meeting of the small council. As he has already had his birds fly for the night, he arrives promptly. Seated at the council table are Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, and Petyr Baelish.
“My lord Tywin,” begins the Master of Whispers. “I had not expected to see you here. Where is Tyrion?”
“Now that I have arrived, he is no longer needed at the small council. I am now Hand of the King,” replies Tywin. “No doubt my son is off patronizing one of the many whorehouses here at King’s Landing.”
Varys began to look at the assembled group, and realized he had no friends there. His eyes scanned across the room looking for a potential exit as it occurred to him that this meeting was more a trap than anything else. He turned slowly, only to find that Jaime had moved in front of the door.
“I have only ever sought to serve my country,” Varys quietly protested to the assembled executioners. “I have information… valuable information that you would not want to lose…” Although his voice remained calm and measured, his wide eyes and the sweat beginning to bead his forehead betrayed his fear.
“Your information is now, and has always been tainted. Remove this coward from my sight,” demanded Lord Tywin. A moment later the deed was done, and the threesome began to discuss where the body should be left.

Varys the Spider (AKA Durryn, Rumormonger) was night killed by the Mafia.

NIGHT SIX ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks cloudRunner, stopping his night kill.
2. Captin Aniima roleblocks cloudRunner, doubly stopping his night kill.
3. cloudRunner chooses to nightkill Captin Aniima (doubly invalid, as he was roleblocked twice).
4. The mafia chooses to nightkill itisally (invalid, as she is bulletproof).

NIGHT 6 MESSAGE TO CLOUDRUNNER

The body count of the useless commoners is growing, but the stinking corpses of those who have the authority to question Joffrey’s reign is not increasing quickly enough. The King decides that Aniima needs to go. Though he has the distinct impression that someone has been trying to interfere with his plans, a change of target may produce better results. Unfortunately, this new target has the same result as the last. Not a sign of Captin Aniiima is found. Another night with no new pike adornments.

NIGHT 6 MESSAGE TO THE MAFIA

The remaining members of the small council are starting to count their losses, and are becoming concerned with their dwindling numbers. The loss of Tywin Lannister was a telling blow to the group. Petyr and Jaime step up to the challenge of removing those who can interrupt their rise to power. The last time they searched for itisally, she could not be found. This night’s search yields an identical result. Although there have been whispered rumors of her whereabouts, she appears to be a step or two in front of the mafia wherever they search. You have no night kill this evening.

NIGHT SEVEN ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. Jedo the Jedi roleblocks Captin Aniima, stopping her roleblock.
2. Captin Aniima roleblocks 3iff (invalid, as she has been roleblocked).
3. The mafia chooses to nightkill Captin Aniima.

NIGHT 7 DEATH SCENE

Tyrion Lannister is spending a pleasant evening with Shae when the door bursts in. There, Tyrion is surprised to see his brother, Jaime.
“Well, at least Littlefinger had the location of your whore correct,” spat Jaime. “I suppose you were responsible for our dear sister’s death as well.”
“Quite the contrary, dear brother,” stated Tyrion. “I have always held the interests of my family at almost the same level as my own. I have never knowingly done anything to cause undue harm to the Lannister name.”
“Your very existence is a stain to the name,” replied Jaime. “One I have lived with for long enough and that I shall rectify immediately. Our dear departed sister never had any love for you, nor did our father. How dare you live while they are taken from me? While they never claimed such in so many words, I am certain that they would want you gone. As they say, a Lannister always repays his debts.”

Tyrion Lannister (AKA Captin Aniima, Town Roleblocker) was night killed by the Mafia.

NIGHT EIGHT ACTIONS (reordered to order of operation)

1. The mafia chooses to nightkill The_Great_Creper.

NIGHT 8 DEATH SCENE

Sansa Stark had been held in a tower since shortly after her father had been beheaded. The only time she was let outside was when Joffrey was parading her around like a sort of trophy, and now he was gone as well. No one had visited her in days, when suddenly her door burst open. There stood Jaime Lannister with a scowl on his face.
Sansa sighed, resigned to her fate. “I suppose you’re here to kill me now,” she said flatly.
“Actually, yes,” replied Jaime. “The rest of your family is gone, as is mine. If I allow you to escape now, you would find your way back to your dear brother. If I cannot have my family back, neither can you have yours.”
With that, Jaime drew his sword and ran her through. She did not cry out, as she had already shed enough tears for this lifetime.

Sansa Stark (AKA The_Great_Crep’er, Town Mason) was night killed by the Mafia.

Next, the character thread.
I hope some people take interest in this. LIML and I worked very hard to keep game balance and keep the characters true to the story.
Due to the number of characters, I'll break this into several parts.

Part 1: Mafia

Player: Fritzler
Role Name: Cersei Lannister (Baratheon), Queen Regent of Westeros
Role: Mafia Godfather (Godmother?)
Role Power: While you do not have the standard investigation immunity, you do have an additional ability in its place. As a one-shot ability, you may send a PM to a moderator to order Jaime Lannister (3iff) to perform a day kill. This kill will be made publicly in the game thread (as 3iff, but not his character name), and will replace that night’s mafia kill. This power is lost if Jaime dies prior to its use – it cannot be transferred to the new Enforcer.
Description: Cersei, a stunningly beautiful yet cruel and ambitious woman, is the daughter of Tywin Lannister, leader of House Lannister. She has a twin brother named Jaime, with whom she has an incestuous relationship that has resulted in Cersei's three children, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. Most of the populace, including her husband the King, believes that the children are the rightful heirs to the throne as Roberts' offspring. She married Robert Baratheon after he became King of the Seven Kingdoms, but grew to despise him due to his unresolved feelings for his former love.

Communication: PM’s between Mafia members are not allowed. You may converse at night (only) via Quicktopic, here: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/BCsW8HsTtqNX

Player: 3iff
Role Name: Jaime “Kingslayer” Lannister, Knight of the Kingsguard
Role: Mafia Enforcer
Role Power: You perform the Mafia’s night kills for the group. In addition to this, your sister Queen Cersei (Fritzler) can call upon you once to perform a public day kill. This will replace the mafia’s night kill. This kill will be made publicly in the thread, but will not reveal your role name.
Description: Jaime Lannister is the son of Tywin Lannister, brother to Cersei and Tyrion Lannister. He is twins with Cersei and has had an incestuous relationship with her for many years that has resulted in Cersei's three children, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. He is a very handsome man, with a strong masculine build. His nickname is "Kingslayer," as he was a knight of the Kingsguard who slew the Mad King Aerys during the Sack of King's Landing. He accompanied his sister and the King to Winterfell , and is caught having intercourse with her by the 9-year-old Bran Stark. To hide their treason and incest Jamie throws the little boy out of a tower window quoting “the things I do for love”, but Bran does not die.

Player: Jedo the Jedi Quailman Jedo the Jedi
Role Name: Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, Master of Coin
Role: Mafia Roleblocker
Role Power: Each night you may PM a moderator with the name of who you would like to block.
Description: Lord Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish grew up poor in Riverrun with Catelyn Stark and Lysa Arryn, and fell in love with Catelyn there, while Lysa fell in love with him. When Catelyn was engaged to Brandon Stark, Petyr challenged him to a duel for her hand. Catelyn gave Brandon her favor and shunned Petyr, who lost the duel. Petyr left Riverrun in shame and later became Master of Coin for Robert Baratheon and the Iron Throne. He is well-known for playing false and having his own best interests in mind.

Player: Zag
Role Name: Tywin Lannister, Head of House Lannister
Role: Mafia Goon/Puppetmaster
Role Power: Unbeknownst to the rest of the Mafia, you have a one-shot ability to choose the Mafia’s night kill target in secret, by sending a PM to a Moderator.
Description: Eldest son of Lord Tytos Lannister of Casterly Rock, Tywin became Warden of the West and Lord of Casterly Rock upon his father's death. Lord Tywin was by all accounts an able Hand to the former Mad King Aerys, credited by many with giving the Seven Kingdoms twenty years of peace and prosperity, though it caused tension between Tywin and an increasingly-paranoid King Aerys II. After the investiture of his eldest son and heir, Ser Jaime, into the Kingsguard, Tywin resigned the Handship and returned to Casterly Rock. During Robert's Rebellion, Lord Tywin ignored calls for support from both rebels and royalists. After the Battle of the Trident, he led a force of roughly 12,000 men to King's Landing, declaring his loyalty to Aerys II. Once the king opened the gates, however, Lord Tywin's forces proceeded to sack the city. Lord Tywin ordered the deaths of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Prince Aegon Targaryen, presenting their corpses, draped in cloaks of Lannister crimson, to the victorious Lord Robert Baratheon.

Player: MNOWAX
Role Name: Grand Maester Pycelle, Member of the Small Council
Role: Mafia Goon/Follower
Role Power: You never act alone. You may not lead or hammer a lynch. If you become the sole player voting for another due to others moving their votes, you must move your vote as well.
Description: Grand Maester Pycelle has served the realm for many years. He is the highest-ranking maester and answers only to the King. However, despite his oath to serve the realm, Pycelle has more loyalty to House Lannister.

Characters 2: Neutrals

Player: cloudRunner
Role Name: Joffrey Baratheon, King of Westeros
Role: Serial Killer, Neutral
Role Power: You, as is standard for a Serial Killer, have your own agenda. Nobody, not even your mother, will tell you otherwise. Your night kills are done via a PM to a Moderator. If you are the last player left alive, you win.
Description: Joffrey was born to Queen Cersei Lannister and presented to the world as the son of King Robert Baratheon. Joffrey grew up as a spoiled and indulged child, doted on by his mother. King Robert took some interest in the boy, but generally preferred feasting and partying to spending huge amounts of time raising Joffrey. Despite this, Joffrey came to idolize Robert’s combat prowess, vowing to become as great a warrior. Despite this desire to emulate Robert, Joffrey had a cruel streak within him. After learning a castle cat was pregnant, he killed the animal and cut open its belly to investigate further. Robert discovered him doing this and beat him bloody. Afterwards he had little to do with Joffrey, who grew up further sheltered and indulged by his mother, who assigned Sandor Clegane, 'the Hound', to him as a bodyguard and sworn sword.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Joffrey_Baratheon

Player: Durryn
Role Name: Varys, the Spider
Role: Rumormonger, Neutral
Role Power: As a truly neutral character, as long as you survive when any side has eliminated all threats to them, you win as well by declaring yourself to be among their numbers. In addition to this, any non-killing ability that targets you is automatically redirected to another player. Also, you may target one player each night to receive a piece of random truthful information from your “little birds”. You will not be made aware of the information.
Description: Varys "the Spider" was a member of the Small Council in King's Landing. He held the position of Master of Whisperers under Targaryen and Robert I Baratheon. Varys is a eunuch, cut when young by a maegi working black magic. He is well known for his spies (called "little birds") who tell him about nearly all goings-on in the world. It is unclear where his loyalties lie, although he did once confess to Eddard Stark that he lives to serve the realm.

Description: Tyrion Lannister is a brilliant man who is rarely seen for anything other than his dwarfism. He is clever, quick and well learned. Many have wrongly assumed he is cruel because of his physical deformities making him appear 'cruel'. He is the youngest son of Tywin Lannister, brother to Cersei and Jaime Lannister. His mother died giving birth to him, furthering his distance from his father along with the notion that “All dwarves are bastards in their fathers’ eyes.”

She is beautiful and excels at many female leisure activities, including singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, sewing, fashion, and social graces. She does not always have a good relationship with her sister Arya, whose interests are opposite in many respects and bewildering to Sansa. She was briefly accompanied by a direwolf pup named Lady.

Characters 4: Other Townies

Player: Deception
Role Name: Eddard “Ned” Stark, Lord of House Winterfell, the King’s Hand
Role: Non-standard Investigator, Town
Role Power: You may ask a moderator a single yes or no question each night via PM, and receive an accurate answer. Because Lord Stark was a man of unquestionable honor, you MAY NOT LIE within the game thread. Doing so would be… bad.
Description: Eddard Stark, popularly called 'Ned' by his family and close friends, is the head of House Stark, the Lord of Winterfell and the ruling lord of the North. King Robert Baratheon rides to Winterfell at the death of his previous hand, Jon Arryn , to ask Ned to take up the position. It is an honour Ned does not want, but is obliged to accept. He also takes the position so he might investigate Jon Arryn's death when it is said he has been murdered. This leads him to search for Robert’s base-born children, and also discover that Joffrey is not the true son of Robert, but rather an abomination born of incest.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Eddard_Stark

Player: novice Sniklac16
Role Name: Catelyn Stark (Tully), Lady of House Winterfell
Role: Non-standard Protector (Doctor), Town
Role Power: Each night you may send a PM to a moderator with 2 names, and they will be protected from night kills. You may not protect yourself.
Description: Catelyn Stark, formerly Catelyn Tully, is the wife of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell and the North. She is the elder sister of Lysa Arryn, the recent widow of Jon Arryn, King Robert’s former hand. It was information from Lysa that prompted Eddard’s investigation into Jon Arryn’s death, and into accepting the new position of the King’s Hand. Catelyn was betrothed to Eddard’s older brother Brandon prior to his execution by the Mad King Aerys.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Catelyn_Stark

Player: Elethiomel
Role Name: Arya “Underfoot” Stark, House Winterfell
Role: Eavesdropper, Town
Role Power: Each night you will be given a piece of random but truthful overheard information. You will not be told who is involved in the conversation.
Description: Arya Stark is the youngest daughter and third child of Eddard Stark and his wife Catelyn. She is eight years old, and very much the tomboy. She plays at swordfighting so often that rather than try to dissuade her, Eddard finds her a teacher, Syrio Forel.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Arya_Stark

Player: Undercover Monk
Role Name: Sandor “the Hound” Clegane, Sworn sword to King Joffrey
Role: Hunter, Town
Role Power: Although an employee of the Lannisters, you despise them and secretly wish to work against them. As such, you have a “target” and an alternate win condition. If you are part of a mob that successfully lynches Joffrey Baratheon, you win. This win will not be announced until after the game has reached a standard conclusion, and you will continue to play as normal.
Description: Sandor "the Hound" Clegane is a warrior initially under the employ of the Lannisters working as a protector for Joffrey Baratheon. He is the brother of Gregor Clegane, whom he hates. Sandor is easily recognized because half of his face was severely burned by Gregor when they were children; this event spurred a fear of fire in Sandor.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Sandor_Clegane

Player: jadesmar
Role Name: Syrio Forel, Water Dancer, First Sword of Braavos
Role: Vigilante, Town
Role Power: Each night you will send the name of your target to a moderator via PM.
Description: Syrio Forel is a bravo from Braavos, a master fencer and former First Sword of Braavos. He is a slight, bald man with a beak of a nose. He was hired by Eddard Stark as Arya’s “dancing” instructor, and is teaching her the art of swordplay.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Syrio_Forel

Player: spyrl
Role Name: Gregor Clegane, “the Mountain that Rides”
Role: Vengeful Townie
Role Power: If you are killed during the course of the game, you will take out your killer with you. This ability works both night and day. In the case of a lynch, you will take out the player that dropped the hammer.
Description: Ser Gregor Clegane, or, "The Mountain That Rides," is a Lannister knight. He is the brother of Sandor Clegane, who hates him and wishes to kill him. Gregor is well known as a sociopath, rapist, and murderer; he routinely tortured Sandor when they were younger, raped and murdered Elia of Dorne during the Sack of King's Landing, and also slaughtered her daughter and infant son. His sigil is three dogs on a yellow field.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Gregor_Clegane

Player: ohcapt13
Role Name: Barristan Selmy, Knight Commander of the Kingsguard
Role: Non-standard Investigator, Town
Role Power: Each night, you may send the name of a player to the moderator via PM and discover the surname of that player’s character.
Description: Ser Barristan Selmy is a famed knight, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard of King Robert I Baratheon. Barristan Selmy is the son of Ser Lyonel Selmy of Harvest Hall. He served as squire to Lord Manfred Swann of Stonehelm. He was named "the Bold" at the age of 10 when he wore borrowed armor to appear as a mystery knight in a tourney held at Blackhaven.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Barristan_Selmy

Player: Amb
Role Name: Stannis Baratheon, King Robert’s younger brother
Role: Angry Townie
Role Power: You may vote only once per day and you may NOT unvote or change your vote, but it will count as two votes towards a lynch.
Description: Stannis is a brooding, humourless man known for a hard and unyielding sense of justice, who is obsessed with slights real and imagined. His stubbornness and determination are legendary and served him well during Robert's Rebellion, when he successfully held Storm's End against Mace Tyrell's siege under desperate conditions. After the war, Robert gave Stannis charge of building a fleet to capture Dragonstone. After the fall of the castle, Stannis was given Dragonstone instead of the wealthier Storm's End which was given to his younger brother Renly Baratheon. Stannis perceived this as an insult, though Dragonstone is the traditional holding for the king's heir.
Bio Link: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Stannis_Baratheon

Player: Apple Sause
Role Name: Renly Baratheon, King Robert’s youngest brother
Role: Favored Townie
Role Power: It takes a 2/3 majority rather than a simple majority to lynch you. This has no effect at night.
Description: Renly Baratheon is the younger brother of Robert and Stannis Baratheon. He rules as Lord of Storm's End, and served as Master of Laws on Robert's small council. He is a handsome and charismatic man, winning friends easily, but also strikes some people as frivolous. Though Renly is Robert's younger brother, Robert gave the Baratheon seat of Storm's End to him rather than Stannis, who was given Dragonstone instead. During the Targaryen dynasty, the seat of Dragonstone was given to the heir to the Iron Throne. The lands of Storm's End are considerably larger and richer than those of Dragonstone, giving Renly more power than his older brother.

Translated Whispers
Almost done folks...

Night 1: "A little bird informs you that Eddard Stark has been asking questions."
Translation: Eddard Stark's character has some sort of investigation type ability, and he used it on night 1.

Night 2: "A little bird informs you that Tyrion Lannister was seen playing dice in a brothel with men from Winterfell."
Translation: novice (Catelyn Stark) had been roleblocked by both Tyrion Lannister and Petyr Baelish. I wrote it as this since Baelish owns all of the brothels in King's Landing, and it seemed a reasonable way for Tyrion to keep the attention of the guards Catelyn had sent to protect that night.

Night 3: "A little bird informs you that one of Chataya’s working girls was severely beaten by a patron."
Translation: Again, this gives info about the roleblocker. This time Gregor Clegane, a known violent misogynist, was roleblocked by Petyr Baelish. For the record, Chataya runs the brothel, but Baelish owns it.

Night 4: "A little bird informs you that the King should not lead with his dragon."
Translation: This one would bot be clear to someone who has not read the series. Tyrion is a good player of a game called Cyvasse, which is like a mix between chess and Stratego. Tyrion roleblocked Joffrey, so a Cyvasse lesson seemed like a good distraction. Leading with a dragon (or similar power piece) is a common mistake for an amateur player.

Night 5: "A little bird informs you that forces are attempting to manipulate the King."
Translation: Joffrey was doubly role-blocked. I felt that any more than that would make people far too suspicious. I was already nervous that the open sharing of the information would have people speculating on the night actions.

Page-wise? What I was referring to.

To think that a game had this much dialogue and detail on behalf of both the mod and players, on a site where the absent player was starting to become the forum mascot, gives me hope. It did seem like a drawback though in its magnitude because it was just too bulky and grand to digest. And I feel bad for not being a GoT watcher and really appreciating all the hard work Sentran put into the game. Maybe this will inspire me to pick it up. Nonetheless, thank you Sent, for allowing me to play and kudos on doing such a dedicated job.

Now, UM, go and sound the conch and ready the chest with the million dollars for Survivor Mafia! (Oldschool reference)

Finally, Lessons Learned.

1. I am not sure if I made the correct decision to continue day after removing absent players, or if I should have gone to night phase. Or, as a third option, to leave the absent players in game. Thoughts?

2. I am feeling like I should request an email address from every player, if I ever run a Mafia game again. The number of AWOL players in this game made me more than a little grumpy, and seriously had me worried about game balance.

3. As I stated previously, running order of operations by timestamp only is a bad idea. I fixed that one during the game.

4. The morning is wiser than the evening. This is a phrase from Tales of Baba Yaga, and it's a great point. I take it to mean that I should sleep on things before I post in anger. It never works out well for me.

5. Don't take things personally! If someone has a different opinion about game mechanics and balance, they're entitled to that opinion. I should not feel the need to vehemently defend my own opinions, and I can disagree without being snarky about it.

I think that's it. I really did have a good time more often than not in this game. It will be a while before I'm ready to run another (smaller) game, and hopefully I'll be allowed.

Good game with a disappointing outcome... Crying or Very sad

cloudRunner made a comment some time back about mafia not using one player to do all the nightkills because that was stupid/dangerous...I laughed at that because that was my job!

A pity so many players dropped out along the way.

More to say when I've absorbed the last few posts.

I think you did an awesome job. LIML and Sentran, my hat is off to you for both clever creation of death scenes and what I believe to have been a well balanced game.

Itisally and I look forward to the next time you run a game.

3iff is just hurting because he lost.

GG you two. Extreme Delectation

Thanks, Sentran, for modding! Congrats town on a really great win!

The game was fun and I thought it was quite well-run, especially considering some of the challenges. When you consider that the game came down to a hair's breadth of difference, that tells me that it was well-designed, as well. (If Jedo had left his vote on UMonk, the day very likely would have ended in a 2-2 tie which would have gotten UMonk killed instead of Jedo, then the Mafia would have won. I don't mean to sound critical of Jedo, here. His action was exactly the right one in other circumstances, which he couldn't have known beforehand. Also, his orchestration of the earlier day, where it could have gone to the tiebreaker, lynched Iforgetwhom, and left UMonk looking like the guilty party, was nothing short of Mafia mastery.)

I have only one comment on the setup: This role was overpowered
Quote:
Role Name: Bronn, Mercenary
Role: Bulletproof Townie
Role Power: You are a survivor. In addition to being immune to night kills, you have the information that Tyrion Lannister (Captin Aniima) is also a member of the Town, and he knows the same of you. You have no ability to communicate with him outside of the public thread.

With someone vouching for the person to avoid lynches, giving complete night-kill immunity is too much: There's literally no way to kill this person. Either remove the reciprocal knowledge (Did Tyrion really know for sure that he could trust Bronn?) or make the immunity a one-shot thing.

Otherwise, the set-up was really good, and I know how hard it is to make a no-vanilla game without there being some flaws.

Thanks again! You've totally redeemed yourself from the All-Jester fiasco.

First things first...we shut off spyrl's ability and could have killed her with impunity?! Ugh!

The other things I have to say have probably been said elsewhere, but I'll re-post here for conciseness.

We lost when MNO killed spyrl. It was a salvageable situation, but we could have bagged it easily if he hadn't. This is not a blame by any means because he couldn't have known, but it was a very costly mistake. Up to that point, we had a very excellent game.

As I said in the dead thread, unstable player slots are bad for town in the early game and bad for scum in the endgame. TGC replacing in and doing nothing crippled us. We would have won if the slot had just remained inactive, but then I needed to adjust my play to try and win the vote. When nothing happened, it sunk us.

I agree with Zag about the Bronn/Tyrion roles. While they couldn't talk, that's still powerful to know someone else is confirmed as your same alignment AND have a separate power. This would have been easily remedied if they didn't know the other was their own alignment. (Generally classified as "neighbor.")

Now, this may be a sore loser talking, but I don't think town deserved this win. I think Monk deserves his win, but he could just as easily have given it to the mafia. (Also, for the record, a Lyncher should definitely be third party/neutral.) I think 3iff did a pretty good job toward the end. It was an impressive showing from someone so new.

Finally, Monk, I want you to know (as you will see if you read the mafia thread) that I already had a safe claim made up, but I was going to change it to Sandor, bodyguard, if you by some chance weren't him. That was frustrating, but ultimately made no difference since you were indeed Sandor Clegane.

1. When making modkills, the general wisdom is to end the day depending on if it affects the minority. If you modkill a mafioso, end the day. If you modkill a townie, probably keep the day going. It's all about maintaining the balance.

2. AWOL players are definitely a problem. Email is probably not a bad solution. The real difficulty is that you didn't have a pool of ready replacements. If you run a big game on the GL like this, that's probably going to be an issue even if you have another means of contact. Good luck, Monk. Wink

3. Yep. Thank you, Natural Action Resolution. I'm glad you figured out the roleblock thing. The only problem with doing it your way is that it hurts the mafia, the minority. Generally speaking, they want to discuss as long as possible before making a decision. Maybe if you wanted to time stamp townie submissions that could work, but it's hard for mafia to be included in such a line-up.

4. True for everybody.

5. Again, true for everybody. As one who was certainly giving you ample grief, I will tell you to take confidence from the fact that the complainers have a limited viewpoint. We don't know all of the other elements, so if we complain about balance it is with incomplete knowledge. Rest easy on that.

A final word of advice for all mods: less is more. When players ask you questions or want verification of things, think long and hard before you answer. Sometimes, you may think you have come up with a brilliant neutral answer only for them to pull an unintended revelation from it. In those instances, it happened to be what you didn't say that informed them. So, if you say nothing to begin with, they can't get anything from it. This is probably the most tricky part of modding.

Anyway, an excellent game, Sentran. Like I believe I said, this was one of the most fun (and frustrating) mafia games I've played in a while. I really had to work to last as long as I did, and there was quite a thrill in that endgame after Zag died. Despite the minor flaws (and they really were minor), you did a stupendous job modding. Plus, sticking to the source material as well as you did is quite a feat for any themed game. I was thoroughly impressed by how well you captured the characters in their powers.

Now, let's face-off against each other again.

MODKILLS generally end the day if town, continue if scum.

However killing for inactivity is a bit different than rule infraction where you'd want to penalize the faction a lot. If you're very sure that they wouldn't come back and that a replacement wasn't coming, killing them in the way you did was probably for the best.

The theme.
I knew nothing about the Game of Thrones story and this severely hindered my understanding of events and characters. However, I think others were in the same situation.

My claim.
I had to claim at the end and was about to claim Bronn...and just noticed in time that itisally had claimed Bronn. Jedo had suggested Ilyn Payne and that fitted with the "silence" claim by cloudRunner. Seems though it might have backfired a bit as itisally/UM thought I had silenced tgc? (Thanks for the compliment, cloudrunner, deadpost 94)

How did I survive for almost all the game? Still in awe of Zag, Jedo and MNO who breezed through the game. Thanks to them for the guidance they gave me. It was an honour. (I'll never trust you lot again though!). My 4th game and the most demanding by far.

Killing tgc.
UM: We had a couple of attempts at killing itisally to no avail (actually she was bulletproof) so she was not a suitable target. I suspected tgc was still active so had itisally and tgc remained alive, they would have got me. My only hope at this stage was to persuade itisally to vote UM...a desperate and hopeless long-shot. Whoever I nightkilled (tgc or UM) wouldn't have made any difference unless I killed UM and tgc disappeared completely. I had meant to post yesterday and completely forgot but I doubt I could have said anything to make anyone vote differently.

Little Birds.
I had no idea they were tweeting clues. Interesting diversion but over my head.

Sentran: Dead pool post 17: "If a player is completely uncommunicative for 3 weeks, I do not want to waste more time by searching for a replacement. It seemed more humane to the active players to do away with the role and allow the game to continue."
So why did you change your mind? (I don't need an answer).

The endgame.
Goalposts were moved. If Jedo had stayed put then things might have been different but reactivating an unlynchable genuine townie at such a late stage critically changed the game dynamics...something we couldn't cope with.

AWOL players.
I can't understand why players sign up for a game and then drop out for no apparent reason. When I join a game, I'm determined to continue until the end. It's a commitment.

The mod
A testing and trying game to mod and no matter what you did you were bound to upset someone...

Me
A tricky start only having 3 days a week to get involved...I knew it was a mistake. At least it kept me out of the spotlight. Equal measures of "Oh no" and "Wow that's great" especially disposing of Deception, Elethiomel and novice in one day. My voting record was letting me down but I learned a lot. Now I'm taking a mafia break for a while...over 4 months play has drained me.

Maybe I might mod my own game sometime soon?

Apologies if I sound bitter...that's really not the case. I did enjoy the game. Congrats to UM and itisally for just beating me to the end...

What? It's not really fair to penalize the faction because of one person's decisions. Agree to disagree though. I still say the overriding decision should be maintaining game balance.

All of that is to say, I agree with Deception that you handled it well, Sentran.

I'm always a fan of removing absent player like you did in such a large game. However, I'm also a fan of acting as if it were a lynch that day and going to night. But thtat is my personal preference.

2. I am feeling like I should request an email address from every player, if I ever run a Mafia game again. The number of AWOL players in this game made me more than a little grumpy, and seriously had me worried about game balance.

Sentran, especially in a game this size where it is going to take the majority of the player in our pool to play, it's just going to come down to finding a replacement, or just MKing for inactivity. You can't do much else. Getting emails may help, but in the end if there is inactivity, havign an email probably isn't going to solve all your problems.

3. As I stated previously, running order of operations by timestamp only is a bad idea. I fixed that one during the game.

Yeah, people get on and off at all hours of the day and night, so a timpestamp idea doesn't really work. It would be one thing if we were active all at around the same time, but not on here.

4. The morning is wiser than the evening. This is a phrase from Tales of Baba Yaga, and it's a great point. I take it to mean that I should sleep on things before I post in anger. It never works out well for me.

Very True for everyone.

5. Don't take things personally! If someone has a different opinion about game mechanics and balance, they're entitled to that opinion. I should not feel the need to vehemently defend my own opinions, and I can disagree without being snarky about it.

Again Very true. I point to a thread about how I ended up having to end the game totally because I made a huge mechanical flaw in the setup ( http://www.greylabyrinth.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=12455&highlight= )

I think that's it. I really did have a good time more often than not in this game. It will be a while before I'm ready to run another (smaller) game, and hopefully I'll be allowed.

You'll definitely be allowed. This was an excellent example of a well run game. Sure, there were some flaws, but chalk that up to experience.

I also want to address a few things personally. First, I did make a HUGE mistake by going after spyrl. I thought she was the SK, and a chance to take her out I thought was worth it. I was wrong and it killed not only me, but Zag too.

That being said, Mafia also made a huge mistake by not staying on the dogpile when TGC replaced in. You had nothing to lose by staying on him.

I will also say this, Zag made a point in the Mafia thread and (maybe?) the dead thread that I shouldn't have used our gambit that early. I was about to be lynched, no way around it, if I'm dead, you couldn't use the gambit. I intentionally also left it wide open for ANYONE on the mafia side could have claimed vanillaized ( I was actually going for Jedo to pick it up, but anyone could have the way I had phrased it.) Zag was just the one who decided to come to my rescue. and sadly paid the price for it.

The town had its merits, 5/21 ratio is cutting it close, but when you have a confirmed unNK-able townie in a game, it does make ally pretty powerful. My suggestion for the next time for a role like that either a RB or 2 bullets on the same night will kill them. To be fair though, this game was still quite well balanced.

I was a very active watcher throughout this game, (even after I died) And the fact that it was so close shows how well the game was set up. I do not know Game of Thrones AT ALL, so a lot of the flavor was lost on me. However the time and effort you meticulously put into this game was amazing, and like I said before it would be a joy to see you mod another game again, of course after recharging your batteries from this massive game.

Lastly at 1735 posts, this is the longest game ( by posts ) on the GL. Sure, Mafia scum has a bunch of them ranging into the 5K of posts, but that's them, not us. Revenge most foul! Congrats Sentran! Thank you for modding, thank you everyone for tolerating my play again. Wink and GG all!

I played a game once that went over 2500 posts on day ONE. I can't find it but it was huge.

Partially, but he has a legitimate reason. If I'd left Silverfire as Sansa and not replaced, the Mafia knew they had a lock on Day 8 and would win the game. As it was, I jumped on the chance to replace a player as soon as a replacement became available. I thank TGC for agreeing to play, but the timing was unfortunate for the Mafia. Considering that the timing and removal of other players had been beneficial to the Mafia, I did not feel it was TOO unbalancing.

It wasn't using the gambit that I objected to -- you're right, it depended on your role so it was essentially unavailable if you died, anyway. It was other things, which I've elided in the interest of being no more of a jerk than I've already been.

Anyway, I apologize for saying anything. It was unnecessary and unkind, and I shouldn't have said it. I'm sorry.

I have only one comment on the setup: This role was overpowered: Bronn, Bulletproof Townie

It was not unkillable at night, and I was amazed at the number of times she was almost killed. If she had been roleblocked, it would have shut off her bulletproof ability and allowed her to be killed. I see your point about not letting Tyrion know about Bronn though. Wish I'd thought of it.

This seems exactly backwards. Lynches are the town's only tool to kill scum, so skipping one is beneficial to the scum. (Consider how much people consider a 'no lynch' vote to be a pro-scum action.) So this rule takes away the town's only tool if they have just had a somewhat-unfair setback, but retains it when they have just been given a benefit.
