This forum has been abnormally dead for several months. It's actually almost been a year since the last post in here. So, if not this, I encourage the GL community to step forward and put forth efforts to kickstart posting and voting activity in here again. Don't give the mods and admins a reason to fold this forum.
A proposition for the next tourney: Best Date. It was a composite of two ideas that may very well generate a lot of interest. Best Holiday (Christmas vs. Thanksgiving? Easter vs. Mother's Day?) and Most Significant Historical Date (01/01/1863 vs. 05/07/45? 09/11/2001 vs. 11/22/1963?). Of course maybe it would be better to do one or the other to avoid the contrast of lighthearted holidays (Halloween) with somber occasions and events of a great magnitude (12/07/1941, 08/09/1974)
Another thing occurred to me: There's not enough non-US related events here! This needs more broadening. My apologies.
But the most important thing here is that the polls get feedback again. Discuss! If you have ideas for nominations for any of the topics here, post 'em here. If you have a counter idea for a poll feel free to post that too. Let's get these things moving again.

Favorite holiday seems cliche, but maybe.
Would favorite criminal work? I'm not sure, it's just the first thing that came to mind. |

When I read Best Date, I thought it meant something else
But then when I really thought about it, I thought about it from the perspective of best date, regardless of year. As an example, you might support February 17th - Prohibition ends in US (1933), Kasparov defeats Deep Blue (1996), Michael Jordan born (1963), Independence of Kosovo (2008). _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Favorite cliche, perhaps?
And yeah, I thought about that double meaning to the 'Best Date' thing but figured it was pretty apt to describe what the tournament's objective was, anyways.
CONTENDERS:
Favorite Criminal
Most Significant Historical Date
Best Visionary/Most influential person (Somewhat covered with the "Greatest Human" tourney held a few years back, but okay )
Maybe give this a few more days, see if anyone else has any thought and if not just put up the topics to a vote. |
