| I saw an American job ad today that asked for someone fluent in British English. I was amused. Though it did make sense in context. |

| Rab C Nesbitt, Jimmy Nail, Noddy Holder, Pam Ayers, HRM Queen Elizabeth II, Cilla Black, Katie Price (for instance) all speak "British English" but they all use different words and sound... definitely non-identical. |

I'm not sure she should be referred to as HRM. She's just HM. The R should (I think) only go with HRH. I'll get me coat. _________________

Well we've just had a Jubilee weekend in which several Americans were mocked for wishing Her Majesty a Happy Birthday, except that - technically - that's exactly what we were celebrating.
Well, her "official" birthday, at least (her "real" birthday is in April.)
Meanwhile, the anniversary of her ascension to the throne was back in February, and the anniversary of her coronation isn't due until next year.
So I guess maybe you'd be OK...
Then again, how many other countries would expect an 86-year-old woman to stand for several hours in the pouring rain for no particular reason other than to prove that she was still alive? (Cleverly, we stuck her in the middle of a river too, so that there wasn't anywhere convenient to hide.) She must have been smoking something. _________________

Same in the Netherlands..
Queen's Day is celebrated on April 30th, which is actually the birthday of the queens mother, queen Juliana. Queen Beatrix' birthday is acually January 31st, but that makes public events a bit nippy.
It'll be interesting once Price Willem-Alexander ascends to the throne. His birthday is April 27th, so nearly the same. Will they keep it at the current date, or rename it to King's Day, and move it? |

You're right (of course) and I did know that and should have remembered.
The mention of Queen Beatrix led me down a train of thought... how much fun it would be to have a "Monarchy Swap" - we could mix it around a bit too, this year the Netherlands, next year Sweden, etc etc. |
