I can only take up to 15 people this time around. Things are going to be different: The challenges will be harder, the deadlines will be faster. Judges will have specific challenges, and most importantly: No team challenges....

RULES:

1: Have Fun!

2: Unless otherwise noted: All puzzles will have a deadline of one week from the post of the Challenge. At any time, one request for an extension of time per challenge is allowed with majority vote, or when the Mod circumvents the Vote (this will only happen in the point where the majority is not in favor of an extension, and I believe there was a reasonable request made.) This will only extend the deadline one week and can only be used one time per challenge. If you fail to submit a puzzle you are immediately put at the bottom and are at risk of elimination.

3: Puzzles are judged on three criteria:
Theme: does the puzzle fit the Theme?
Technique: Is the puzzle able to be solved? (According to the challenge)
Style: Is it a cool puzzle?
You will not lose points just because it is a hard puzzle. All puzzles are judged solely on their merits as a puzzle. Difficulty will only lose points if it is detrimental to the style or theme of the round.

4: All puzzles MUST be submitted to topgler[at]gmail.com, not to my personal PM box. I have had requests for old puzzles from the competition and this makes it easier not only for myself but for the other judges to look at the submissions.

5: A submission will have to have the following things in the email:
A:In the subject line of the email the name of the round (which will be in the post) followed by the puzzle.
B: The solution to the puzzle and its explanation need to be sent in a separate email under subject line name of round solution. This Is Important to make it a full explanation of the puzzle- you'll find out why later on.
C: Lastly please put your GL name somewhere in the body or subject line of the email.

6: NEW FOR THIS YEAR: Every Challenge now has the ability to eliminate ONE OR MORE contestants. This is new to speed up the process. Not every challenge’s winner will have immunity; however, immunity will always keep you safe, even if you fail to submit a puzzle.

7: More rules will be added as the competition progresses to keep suspense up!

Our judges this year will be:

Undercover Monk: After attempts to crack The Sudoku Code, he decided to honor us with his presence as a judge in the great competition!

Dented Ford: After nearly two years in the insane asylum due to the last competition not being finished, Dented Ford is back to struggle with the demons that is PUZZLES.

keep in mind we will be closing this down on July 4th at midnight, to start off the competition with a BANG!

also be wary when you sign up. this competition isn't going to be a short one. While I have changed the rules a bit to speed up the process, its still going to take a few months to finish at the bare minimum.

Lastly, there will be some rounds that will involve prizes including the puzzle being hosted as a GLP front page puzzle. ( I'm so happy I was able to secure this for us!)

I didn't enter last time (probably due to sulking after the first one) but I guess I can't really say no either.

I'm disappointed that there won't be any team rounds - I thought they were rather cool. But I understand how inconvenient they actually turned out to be.

The collaborative puzzle has really whet my appetite and left me with some ideas for puzzles that have yet to come to fruition, so count me in.
I'm busy at work, but I should be able to participate if I forgo a few hours sleep

Just keep in mind as well, that all three judges are like going up against Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsay, Piers Morgan, and Joe Bastianich COMBINED.

If you want advertising revenue, just start a Deathwatch thread where the first 10 entries from some unknown player all die mysteriously. Then inform the newspapers. Then assassinate number 11 and make sure Obama is #12.

That should generate a few hits.

I still have nothing but the vaguest idea about what this competition entails.

Do we compete in constructing puzzles, solving them, or both?

Constructing them -- It's patterned after the Top Chef competitions.

The puzzles are then posted to VSP where they are solved, while judges vote on them. I think that the last time, MNO opened up the voting on the final puzzle to the entire GL.
