The other day, as I sat in my armchair in my pants surrounded by chocolate wrappers, empty crisp packets, and empty coke bottles I'd filled with pee to avoid getting up, re-watching season 1 of "A Game of Thrones" for the 9th time in half as many days, the original novel in one hand and a sharp dagger to ward off anyone who might dare turn the telly off in the other, I realised something: I quite like Game of Thrones.
Yep, definitely something of a fan. Honestly, I think it's the best damn show on telly at the moment, so I was curious to find out if any of my fellow GL'ers were similarly obsessed. So, do we have any other Game of Thrones fans in the heezy? If so, who's your favourite character? Least favourite? Do you prefer the books or the show? What do you reckon season 3 will serve up?
For me, my favourite character is definitely Tyrion, 'cos he's so damn wily. Also, a terrific performance by Peter Dinklage in the role. My least favourite is Sansa, because she's just such an empty headed little dunce, but she's written that way and, again, a great performance by Sophie Turner. As for season 3? I honestly have no idea. I've not read the book they'll be basing it on and I'm crap at guessing these sorts of things anyway. Also, for my money, as amazing as the TV show is, the books are better. In fact, they're some of the best books I've ever read so if you've not picked any up yet, I urge you to do so. Believe me, they're so interesting and well written they won't spoil your enjoyment of the TV series at all. |

| The dagger was unnecessary. The bottles of urine would have kept others at bay. |

Apparently you aren't familiar with Sentran, Lifeinmomland, itisally, Durryn, etc. They are way gaga over GoT.
Me too. For the show, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion is simply the best. For the books, Tyrion was one of my favorites for a long time (and still is for that matter), but some other characters have been fleshed out and passed him in some ways. Jamie gets a really interesting story line, imo. I also really love Arya and Jon. Sansa is always my least favorite. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Book are WAY better. more twists and more details and I don't get distracted by all the sex and blood.
Tyrion is a fave, and I think he just keeps getting better as the story goes on. He has such a keen eye for surviving and what motivates people.
Arya is another favorite of mine, but I see her story as a comming of age story.
I like Jon as well, but have become quite frustrated with him lately.
Most of the time I could do with out Dany's plot line. I don't find her character very dynamic. The same could be said for Sansa.
I started out Hating Jamie, but I have come to like him all the same.. tht is the great thing about this story. I so fully relate to a characters point of view that I hate thier enemies, and then then the next chapter is about thatn enemy, and I come to understand them.
Gomez, we just finished a Mafia with this theme. It was lots of fun, frustrating with enough twists and turns to make the books proud. A little skill and a lot of luck on both sides made for a very close game. The roles were well designed to match the characters. _________________ I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong. |

See, I really enjoyed Dany through book 3. I thought she had a great story line and drive, but she has definitely floundered in book 5.
I also disagree with Jon. I feel he has hit a rut in terms of the setting, but I feel he's still trying to struggle through to something more.
Stannis is another major annoyance, and I feel like Jon towards Sam: he's a good guy, but he often needs a kick in the pants. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

For the first few books I just felt like her story was a distraction from what I wanted to read. Like an advertizement for up coming events. I wanted to fast forward to the characters I loved. It is better now that some of the characters I have come to love are over there.
Stannis is an antagonist for me as well. He is just there to drive conflic. Sam is so sweet, but I do wish he would step up. I was also disappointed with what happened to Theon.
Jon is struggeling, but The struggle hasn't changed much to me. He is trying to become tthe man his father wasts him to be. I think the transistion will come when the bits of his past are tied together. My current speculation:[He is the true son of Robert that Eddard brought hoome from war, born by the sea and the true king of westrose] |

Well, that's an interesting thought I hadn't considered. I disagree, but I suppose I won't be quite as surprised now if that happens. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Still haven't read the latest asoiaf book, I think I need a reread before I read the new one.
I only saw the first three EPs of agot, don't think my house mates would get it or even give me peace to watch a season of ot and I dislike watching stuff on my laptop
If you enjoyed ASoiaF then try the Malazan Book of the Fallen, starts with Gardens of the moon and the first six books are sheer awesomeness that dwarfs asoaif, not to mention the ten book cycle is finished so no waiting 5 years for the next book _________________ oh hello |
