That was access - an anagram of (cs)(cs)(a)(e) There must be some cultural reference that I'm missing here, but I'm sure someone will explain.
I'll try to post something later today, but if anyone else is bursting to fill the void then please feel free..

There's no cultural reference, just the fact that the commutative law means that an anagram is perfectly reasonable, if a touch unexpected. |

| I thought there might be some extra reference I was missing - along the lines of George Bush's 'Axis of Evil' sounding like 'Access of Evil'. (OK - such a bonus would be a lot to expect in a Quickie...) |

That's brilliant.
Yeah, that was totally an extra reference there. |

Yup. Although it's not really the ideal final answer to a Quickie...
I can see why ralphmerridew was misled on the penultimate answer, since they're really animators, not cartoonists, but I couldn't think of a cartooning pair off the top of my head.
[edit]BTW the 'Yup' was in response to novice's first answer[/edit]

No progress on this, so a push...
The easiest thing to do would be to list what you see. That might allow someone to recognize the next step, or at least find it through a search. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Ok.
Row 1:
Porterhouse steak (Possibly considered a T-bone, but it isn't; it's a porterhouse.)
wedge of Swiss cheese
Basket of eggs (blue, brown, and white)
Welch's Grape juice with a lot of concord grapes
1
(edit: Searching these leads here: http://ohhla.com/anonymous/ntr_big/ready_to/bigpoppa.big.txt )
Row 2:
Super Nintendo
Sega
50" HD TV
Really ugly green couch (emphasis added in response to the following note)
3
(edit: Changing couch to sofa and googling leads here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/notoriousbig/juicy.html )
Row 3:
Rolex watch
Car (I can't make out the logo and I'm not a car guy.)
Texas license plate
Georgetown bulldogs mascot (edited in response to the following note)
7
(edit: and this one leads here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/notoriousbig/warning.html ) _________________

1. FO(SS)IL
2. BA(TT)LE
3. CO(RR)AL
4. SH(OO)ED
5. FU(NN)EL
6. BE(GG)AR
Reading down the middle yields STRONG.

Here's another, since no one has taken over. I could give it a title as a hint, but it may work without one, so we'll start without it...
Wild apes consider divorce (8)
A dinosaur overtakes Hollywood, but it's no big deal (5)
Hash out land in order at first (4)
Cross owner has a beer with detention officer (8)
Wildcat leader scores fifty before heading into overtime (6)
Foundation of an imaginary city? (7)
Baseball team announced an increase in revenue (5)
Insect villain conceals a thousand (5)

Nice puzzle, Suspence. I really like the post-cryptics part. Cryptics feedback, since you asked for it:
SEPARATE - Wild apes consider divorce (8)
Good.
RELAX - A dinosaur overtakes Hollywood, but it's no big deal (5)
Bad. The dinosaur is T-Rex, and Hollywood does not equal LA.
OLIO - Hash out land in order at first (4)
Nice and easy.
CORONADO - Cross owner has a beer with detention officer (8)
Definition is slightly obscure, but nice clue with a good surface reading.
OCELOT - Wildcat leader scores fifty before heading into overtime (6)
Great surface reading and evil red herrings. Tricky clue since there are so many possible ways to parse it. Not sure about your use of scores as a containment indicator, though.
BEDROCK - Foundation of an imaginary city? (7)
Fair enough, but I would prefer a Flintstones reference somehow, or at least replace imaginary with fictional.
RAISE - Baseball team announced an increase in revenue (5)
Nice and easy. Not a fan of american cultural references but this one was manageable.
IMAGO - Insect henchman conceals a thousand (5)
Nice, but again, a Shakespeare reference would have been fairer. (Especially with a pretty obscure straight answer.) |

Man, I liked that one. I had convinced myself that REX was okay since Rex was the dinosaur from Toy Story, but I see how that isn't fair.
Thanks for the feedback. At least I have one (OCELOT) I can be proud of. For "scores", I used the slang definition of "obtains", as in "I scored some tickets to the game" _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |
