For those of you that were not aware of what happened to GLPics, let me give you a quick rundown.

On June 21st, we had some issues with GLPics giving an error when trying to login. Also, people started to notice that links to pictures and file from GLPics were disappearing. Upon inspection from Chaz (HytoFry) it seemed like the server site he was using had lost the data for the GLPics file manager.

Even more worrying, the data from most peoples accounts were gone as well. Unfortunately there were no backups from the company that managed the server, so we did end up losing about 95% of the files stored on the server.

The Good news is that we are officially back online at www.GLPics.com! It looks quite a bit different, and it is a little more GUI based.

If you had an account originally, you CAN NOT use your old credentials to get into the new site, you MUST PM me so I can setup a new account for you. PM me with your email address, and I will get back to you with your new username and password.

Also, If there is anything that was salvaged form the crash, it will be in your new account. Like I had said before, about 95% of the files were lost, so don't expect anything to be there.

Lastly, I will be giving out temp passwords for all new user accounts. It is important that you change your password the first time you log in to the site. Check out the Powerpoint downloadthat I have done to show you how to do that and give you other basic uses on how to use the new GLPics.

Don't have Powerpoint? Here is the PDF file instead to download.

Thanks everyone for your patience while we have been rebuilding GLPics. Thank you Chaz for hosting GLPics in the first place, and MattV for helping on getting everything together!

If you don't want to read download instructions, click on the "logged in as" and then change password. Everything is pretty simple if you ask me Felicitous

And a big Thank You! for your hard work getting this back up.

Lucky for me I kept back ups of everything so I can restore pretty quick... It shows the perils of storing stuff online though.

Hrm...I have read the powerpoint. My upload box is blank. I click "Upload", the dialog box comes up wtih "Upload", the blue arrow, the X for closing the window, but everything below that is blank.

Trying other browsers now...

EDIT: Works in Chrome, but not in Firefox (though I use a really old Firefox version for work purposes)

which version of Firefox are you running? It works on Firefox 13.0.1 ( what I'm running right now)

3.5 Felicitous As I said, it's for work purposes...I'm fine with running Chrome.

Anyhow, do you know if there is a way to control the .htaccess file in the new system?? I was able to do this in the old glpics by creating a file called htaccess. It doesn't appear to be working in the new version.

I use this to control auto-URL correction and to control the error handling when a person visits and incorrect URL (both are important for my URL changing puzzle, which I'm trying to rebuild).

If I can't use .htaccess in this version, does anyone know of other ways I can stop auto-correction and control the destination of erroneous URLs?

did you just need checkspelling off? Did you need other things done with the HTaccess file? I should be able to quickly fix something like that for you, but you wouldn't be able to do it in the GUI I don't believe.

Yes, I'd need CheckSpelling off.

And I'd have a specific URL for an ErrorDocument 403 and ErrorDocument404. I can provide something momentarily.

IIRC, I also used that htaccess file to block access to my directories, so that you couldn't just access additional levels that way, but I'm not sure that is accurate. EDIT: Wait, I think I'm able to do this just by creating an index.html file. That appeared to work.

This would be the URL for ErrorDocument 403 and ErrorDocument 404:
http://glpics.com/suspence/404.html

Would this need to be placed into each directory?

EDIT: It looks like the URL SpellChecker is off, as they aren't getting auto-corrected anymore. I am still getting an advertising 404 page when a bad URL is entered - see http://glpics.com/suspence/badurl.html

The only comment is that I haven't found a really easy way to get a url.

Or maybe a url with image tags automatically put in Felicitous

Functionality-wise:
1) I agree with MattV. The right click, "open in external window", then have to select and then copy a URL is a bit clunky. It would be cool if you could right click and have an option to "copy external URL"
2) I seemed to get logged out constantly.
3) I preferred to have control over the htaccess file.

Look and feel-wise, it definitely seems more modern

The next update I'm going to do is to put a 'get URL" in the right click menu.

1: Look above for the answer to that.
2: When do you get logged out? Are you navigating away from the explorer, then coming back?
3: I understand that, currently as it stands no one will have control of that until the next update at least. Once I get all of the bugs with the main program done, I'll start working on stuff like that, which is more of a per-user type of thing.

Awesome, and thanks as always.

I'll leave it open in a tab, come back to that tab later, and find that I've been logged out. Seems time-related...it feels like less, but it's probably a half-hour.
