I just finished compiling the clues and standardizing the explanations.
There is one clue that seems to have a major error, so I have sent a PM to that setter for clarification/correction. As soon as I hear back on that, I'll post the clues.
If I don't hear back by this evening, I'll likely post the list as-is. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

While we wait, let's review the scoring methodology:
1) After reviewing the clues, use the template below to rank them. Just copy paste the clue into the Gold, Silver, or Bronze position, and then send this to me via PM.

2) If you submitted clues, you must award 1 medal of each color for each solution. It is important that each participant awards out the same number of points to his/her competitors.
3) You may not vote for your own clues.
4) After receiving all the votes, I will then tabulate the scores, awarding 3 points for Gold, 2 for Silver, 1 for Bronze, and 0 for any clues that miss the podium.
5) We'll award the best three clues for each solution, the best three overall clues regardless of solution, and the best three overall setters based on total score.
If you have any questions, please ask. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

By 'correction' do you mean correction to the clue or correction to your explanation? If it's correction to the clue, I wouldn't mind someone having a look at mine before the voting and telling me how I might improve them. |

It was a correction to the clue, as there was clear error that made it fail as a clue. Last time around, it was suggested that I do a better job editing these, so I've tried to do that. Remember ESCORT?
I've notified several people of typos, and others errors I've seen that make the clue completely invalid. I haven't suggested any improvements, just notified them of the error and asked them to have another look.
I hope we're all OK with that.
Clues coming momentarily... _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Thanks for publishing the clues without explanations. What's even better is that after making my choices I can then look at the explanations and make changes if I wish.
Many thanks for that. |

Three notes:
1) Just a reminder that you may not vote for your own clues. I had a submission where this rule was missed by the voter, so I asked for a revision.
2) I made a copying error in one clue - I apologize to the setter. The clue is Developing nations first uprising. It should be listed as Developing nation's first uprising. If this affects the scoring of anyone who previously submitted scores (i.e. you would have voted for it - or voted it higher - but the lack of the apostrophe moved it down), you may choose to revise your score and notify me via PM.
3) If I mis-copied any other clues, and they belong to you, please notify me. I'll apologize effusively, and correct it in the thread as above. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

What happens with the identical clue?
Two people are blocked from voting for it.
I guess it serves them right for being unoriginal (unless it's mine, in which case I should be allowed to vote for my own so that my vote will go to the other guy ) |

I've notified the two users who posted the identical clue. They will be allowed to vote for their own clue in just that one scenario, however, only the other user will receive points.
As for how I determine the rest of the points when the identical clue is voted for, I'll make sure I come up with something equitable. I know we discussed some good options before, so I'll re-read that conversation and make a final decision. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

| Sent. Wow, some really great clues! I had been a lot more happy with this batch than with the last, when I sent in my clues. However, in the judging, if we had been allowed to choose our own, I would only have given myself one silver and one bronze. |

Should I submit votes on clues, excluding the published cryptic clues from my voting?
It seems like I should, to avoid any unfair advantage to the published clues.

| Sent. Some great clues that I didn't really discover until looking very closely at where to place my votes. I also find that when several clues revolve around a similar wordplay, I am more inclined to pass over all of them, so being original is implicitly rewarded. |

| Suspence, if it isn't too much work, you could also make a statistic for the fictional user "1" who wrote all first entries in the list, and so on, to see which places in the lists are the most advantageous. |

My votes are sent. And I have no bias to the order, because I was scoring each clue on a series of things eg Misdirection, cleverness of definition, wordplay etc - and then had Excel sort the ones with the highest score.
Apologies for the length of time I took. My free time has been eaten by some unexpected RL annoyances. |

I suppose esme's point was that we would all say this, but that there is the possibility of some underlying bias. I doubt that it can be convincingly shown in this small a sample, but it's a decent theory. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

Congratulations to Vagrant for proving that the first contest wasn't a fluke. And a convincing victory by the published clue - I think this neatly demonstrates selection bias at work. |

Hehe, indeed. I totally blame Suspence for picking all of the best published clues he could find. (I don't mind, though; it sets the bar suitably high.)
I thought I had made a pretty solid submission, but this is a tough field. |

I think this clue deserves a little more recognition:
4th - Vagrant - 9 points (0 G / 3 S / 3 B) - So train Spot in gymnastics - it's one way to make a dog into a god.
I think the surface reading is simply brilliant here, the definition is very clever, and there's nothing to deduct for the wordplay, either. I did rank the published clue above it, but it was a close call. |
