How recently? You have shown me that before.
Also, you're always welcome to visit. I'll share the view

Got this one at the end of August
Got badly lost en route to get above in August
Got drunk on a lot of tequila based drinks in November
I'd post something from March, but all I have is me either loaded en route to a concert, or passed out at said concert, and thats just not fun _________________ oh hello |

So at the First Friday Art openings, a friend and I went to a gallery that has good shows but also a large range of different exhibitions. I didn't realize it was the traveling exhibition (Earth Fire Fibre) out the Anchorage museum until I saw my muskox! It was very exciting.
And this picture taken by a friend does a great job capturing my joy. |

It has been slow. Partly because people need a little time to think about purchasing such things. Newcomers are also kinda ignored for some reason... So I just remain hopeful. The first day was miserable because I was in an invisible location and it was raining. Yesterday was enjoyable because there were many people looking and I sold a few pieces earlier in the day. Selling artwork isn't a get rich quick sort of business.
I get enough "I love you work, I need an excuse to buy something" type remark to keep me going.
Also, I established a friendly relationship with one of the food vendors. |

There you go.
I guess I can't speak specifically to art, but I know in most other areas that if people are given too many choices they end up not making a decision because they feel overwhelmed. I obviously don't know how much you are putting out or even if such can be applied to art, but if you happen to deem it worth considering, the idea is there presented for you. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

| I did up my presentation with the board on boxes and covered tables. If you are ever selling things at markets, every bit of effort to making the display look nice will pay off. It is hard to balance putting out pieces that people like and not overcrowding the space. Just getting people to come close is a challenge. |

Guys, Buzzsaw died in a horrible car accident today. With so much attention given to "don't text and drive," he didn't realize it was a bad idea to take pictures of yourself while driving. May he rest in peace. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Okay, now I cannot get it to work. I don't know how to post the photos from photobucket, must have gotten lucky on the first one when I used "copy image location" and now this one, when trying to go about it the same way, does not work. |

| But tell me, if this just for the pleasure of growing your own? I enjoyed growing veggies this past year, but I go to the local farmer's market and can buy so much so cheap, I can't consider I'm saving money with what it cost me to grow my own. |

Hey extro! I think it really depends what you're growing as much as how, as far as saving money is concerned. Carrots for example are easy to grow using mechanical methods but even more important is how easy they are to store and handle after they're harvested. Potatoes, same thing. They don't bruise easily, and they're easy to store, have a good shelf life, so it's not just easy to grow them in large scale but handle them and store them in large scale using mechanical means. This includes sending them through a scrubber/washer.
This means you can buy them dirt cheap! I just bought a bag of potatoes for a few bucks at walmart.
So unless you have some serious methods down, a lot of tricks learned and employed to save time and money, you won't save much money growing many of the crops that you could grow. There are some (like tomatoes) that a person can truly save money growing their own.
I wrote a little bit, mainly inspired by Mackay's comment about my tomatoes. I would like to post that here in this thread and include a couple of pics. But after that I think it would be a good idea for me to start another thread, list off some of my opinions about home gardening, offer some tips on what someone might consider prioritizing and choosing to grow, tips on how to do it easier and more cheaply (more cheaply than what, you ask? We'll get to that later).
I want to explain some of the principals involved so one can have options of tightening their wallet and pinch some pennies - or the sky can be the limit for someone gardening - if you want to go crazy doggie and do the kind of thing that I have done with the tomatoes. For example I have done other experiments growing early sweet corn using water filled containers as thermal mass, used in conjunction with floating row covers, etc. I have many photos to share, was able to scan pictures of some of these experiments that I did back in the early nineties, (back when I was a little kid. )
Of course none of these tips will work in the Southern Hemisphere, though. Summer and Winter are all mixed up, the sun is just all wrong down there and confused. <drum roll (sounding like pebbles in a tomato soup can rattling around) followed by a very weak cymbal crash> I kid. I kid. Just giving Mackay a hassle.
But as promised, I will save most of this kind of talk for the other thread, as to not turn this one into a gardening thread. I would like though to post the following here.. ..cont.. |
