I had an extremely weird dream last night.

I was sitting on a plane with mith, flying to New York or somewhere. As it was taking off, I suddenly realised "wait... I don't have any of my luggage with me!"

Then I realised how utterly unlikely it was that I would ever get on a plane and somehow forget my luggage.

And then I realised that the plane had, in fact, come to my front door to pick me up, and that, in general, planes don't do that.

And then I realised "It's a dream, isn't it? It's a bloody dream."

And then I sat there in my seat for a few minutes being thoroughly annoyed.

And then I woke up.

Anyway, I thought this was worthy of its own thread, just in case anyone else wants to post about weird/interesting/significant dreams.

I'll post my personal favourite weird dream...

One night, when I was younger, we were driving home from Dallas (I think we'd been at a Cowboys game, maybe). I fell asleep in the back of the car. In Dallas, there is a building that is a tall narrow tower, with a ball at the top (some sort of restaurant up there, I am told). Anyway, in my dream, the ball had fallen off the tower, and was rolling around in Dallas.

It was pretty silly.

The weirdest dream I ever had was about a piece of cheese. It was a cartoon cheese. Big, yellow, full of holes. Straight out of a Tom&Jerry cartoon. It was on a turqoise background.
...that was it. It sat there for a few seconds, and then the dream ended.

A few nights ago I dreamed that I drove to Longview (a town near here) to visit my friend Clifford. Only Clifford turned out to be Wordcross. But we still did the typical things that Clifford and I do. Then all of a sudden Longview turned into New York and we went to a deli and ate blue cheese. Just blue cheese. I hate blue cheese. Finally we ended up in a theatre and all sorts of stars were in the audience but the play was actually the play that I'm doing at my school right now. A friend ran out itno the audience and yelled at me for not being in costume and ready to perform, so I grabbed Wordcross and dragged him backstage with us. They decided to put him in the show. The end is rather sketchy because I was flitting in and out of consciousness... but it was really really weird. Weirder than it probably sounds.

Just the other night I had a dream which is rather sketchy. I remember I was running from something. And for some reason I was wearing all black with a combat vest and various weapons. And I rounded a corner and there was Luna, with a pistol. The gunshot woke me up. Maybe it's telling me something about Mafia 45?

I once had a dream I married this really annoying person. He was rude and evil. He always was mean to me. He never got me any gifts. He always made me clean and cook. I was never able to sleep more then 3 hours a day because he wanted me to be up and working. He wanted me to work as much as I could so I could pay all the bills. Plus I had to take care of our son so he could play games all the time.

Man... I feel haven't woke up yet from it.

Any ideas?

I love dreams.

We had a thread once on "lucid dreaming", where you're dreaming but are fully aware you are dreaming. I've had many like that. Most, unfortunately, of the type Luna describes, where I just realize "this ain't right - it's a dream", and usually either wake up, or the dream just sort of disintegrates. But I've had quite a few where I knew I was dreaming, and would stand there, looking around, examining objects, being totally amazed at how real it all looked, knowing full well I was asleep with my eyes shut. There's quite a bit about it on the net - people have techniques and even gizmos that are supposed to help one do lucid dreaming. There's a usenet news group alt.dreams.lucid that deals with the subject.

In a couple of dreams - and this freaks me out - I've told characters in the dream that they weren't real, that this is just a dream, and the reaction has always been violent. One I remember was a policeman, and when I told him that, he threw some kind of dart at me, and it stuck in my arm and hurt like hell. I've read other accounts of this sort of thing - dream characters reacting violently to being told they weren't real. I almost get a sense that they are, in some sense, real - that behind what we see in the dream, they have (in our subconcious), their own minds, with motivations that we aren't aware of.

Another fascinating thing is recurring themes in dreams. I often have dreams about ordinary houses where I find lots of unused extra rooms inside, connected in convoluted ways. I love these.

I used to have an occasional lucid dream but not in recent years. I was able to levitate in them but couldn't move horizontally while in the air. I could walk around but if I moved too fast or tried to examine something or read something I'd wake up. There were often other people around but never near me. I never tried to approach them. Maybe I'll remember to do that next time if there is a next time.

I used to have one recurring dream in which I was going to go swimming and the water was very thick and syrupy. As I walked into it my feet would sink a little deeper with each step. After a few steps the water would become normal and I'd sink in over my head and then return to the surface. It wasn't always the same pool. Once it was the pool at my apartment but there were potted plants all over the place that aren't there in real life. I didn't recognize the other pools. One was an olympic size pool but most were smaller. One was at a private club but I don't know how I knew this. There were often other people around and in one of the dreams one other guy was having the same problem getting into the water. I haven't had that dream in years.

I just had a dream last night. I forgot what happened, but I was just about to go tell my father something -- I forgot what -- when, in real life, my father woke me up to remind me of church. That was weird. For a few seconds I was glad I hadn't gone to him or else I would've been out of bed.

I often have dreams where I'm flying, often zooming along in a standing position a few feet off the ground, or sometimes sitting in a lotus position. But they're always the opposite of lucid for some reason - I'm always convinced they're real, and wake up kind of surprised (and disappointed) that they aren't. Also, I can never read anything in dreams - it constantly changes and shifts.

Trying to read something whilst in a dream is usually how I've managed to 'click' that I'm dreaming, and then either wake up or manage to stay in 'lucid dream mode'. Occasionally, the same thing happens with me flying - the thought is "Wow! I can't possibly be able to do this... oh, wait - it must be" ... etc.

Strangely enough, if I have a lucid 'reading' dream, the colours stay the same, but whenever it's a lucid 'flying' dream, I seem to see everything in a vivid 'technicolour' way - lots of bright, primary colours become evident.

Flying dreams are incredibly spiffy.

Just like extropalopakettle though, I really enjoy the 'exploring rooms in a house' dreams the most. I've been told that it represents exploring your subconscious, but I don't know whether that's true. I can remember a few of those very vividly still, even after a few years. The most significant one was one where I was approaching a huge chateau up a lawn from a lake - I can recall huge amounts of detail: the fact that the grass was damp, the type of pine trees lining the sides of the lawn, etc. When I got to the house (which had a huge conservatory filled with cane furniture and palm trees, overlooking the lake), I spent a good while looking around in all the batrooms, kitchens and living areas, realising that this was the house that I was one day going to own myself. It was a very pleasant and relaxing dream, and the feeling of destiny was incredibly powerful.

I regret to say that my current house does not have an enormous lawn going down to a lake.

But it does have a conservatory - just no cane furniture, that's all.

I have heard from many people that it is impossible to read in a dream, but I can remember at least one dream in which I have done so. Not like reading a book, but I can remember seeing and understanding signs or labels.

I tend not to be able to remember dreams that I have had, on the rare occasions that I have them. On occasion upon waking I will know that I had a dream, but I can hardly ever recall one. I have never had a flying or exploring dream that I remember, and only one lucid dream. It was of the type where I could not seem to think clearly but suspected it was a dream, yet could not control anything that happened. I used to think my lack of dreams was related to being an insomniac, but it appears that some of the others here who also suffer from this affliction do dream, and remember theirs, so it must just be me.

I also have these strange geography dreams - like for instance, I'm in downtown Manhattan, and have to make it to somewhere uptown, and while it has the "look and feel" of Manhattan, there's all sorts of thigs that are different, including wooded areas and stuff.

And then there are places - whole towns - that I don't think really exist, but that recur in great detail, sometimes years apart, in my dreams.

~understands joke~

~snickers~

I don't remember ever reading in a dream, but I do hear music in dreams. Real, actual music, like an entire song, a real one. I once heard Nirvana's Come As You Are in a dream, and I could actually hear it, rather than just sort of knowing it was playing (which also sometimes happens, if that makes any sense.) Strange... it's not even a song I particularly like. (And no, it can't possibly have been playing anywhere where I could have heard it in my sleep.)

hmmm Neil Gaiman....he is such a good comic writer. Acually just yesterday I read a comic he wrote title "All the things you've ever wondered about in dreams, but were afraid to ask"...or something like that.
It said that reoccuring dreams happened because when someone in the dream world was supposed to deliver the dream scripts, he would forget them, and make up and excuse that because the previous dreams were bad, that the dream-making team had to do the ones they had already done until they got it right.

Why do some people dream in black and white, while others dream in color?
The wacked out dream-directer wants the dream to be profound.

Why Do I wake up and not remember my dreams
The dream production team didn't make a dream in time, so they just send some flashy images to make you think you forgot it.

There were some others I think.
Whenever I lucid dream, it's usually when I have a flying dream, and once I realize that I can fly whenever I want to, I always just run, jump, and fall down. I always run really slowly in lucid dreams too.

I've had falling dreams too! That reminds me of a dream where a bully pushed me off when I was like 50 feet above ground level. I was falling and thought I'd get hurt. I found myself in bed before hitting the ground -- no falling sensation in bed. The weird part is that while I was falling there was total silence except for a little buzzing sound that's kinda similar to that weird background noise thing in the MK64 Bowser's Castle music.

ok last night i had a funny dream.
(names have been replaced with other names, which only i and a few others will understand)
prolouge: theres this girl at skool called 'missile', shes quite nice, anyway theres this lad called'suckup' who dribbles every time she walks by, ans makes any excuse to see /talk to her, i.e your basic infatuation!
a few week back, i had reason to believe that missile, was infatuated with another guy, called, spikeyhairedadsagymteacher, (lets call him PE), however, she tells me this is not true, i thought i believed her, until i had this dream(i believe all dreams have a meaning)

so the dream...
i was walking down in skool when i see missile and pe smooching,
later we all had maths, in a room we never have maths. suckup was obviously jealous, and cryed his eyes out at the front of the class, all leeson. our maths teacher, a mars bar, didnt see him though, even though he was right in front of her.
suckup told me later that he wanted to get revenge in some sort of manner on pe and missile.

the next day i was in maths, when missile, pe and suckup came in, all holding hands(suckup had also grown a beard)
i asked suckup in a 'trying to hold back laughter' tone, what the hell he was doing.
he replied to sat that he had sewn him and missile to pe, so anything they did, would have to include him, and with this for som strange reason, started to kiss pe, before they could do anything else, i woke up thank god!!

My dream last night began with The Potter posting about a collaborative task between The Cruciverbalist and Mackay. Then it turns out that I live with CV in some sort of community house with lots of other GLers. (It was pretty expansive.) Well, I see him walking with another, nameless, female GLer, and she is convincing him that they should have a baby out of wedlock to force us to be okay with their relationship. (As if the whole board had some sort of conservative, Christian morals. Oh, Jiminy ) I confront him later saying that they've only just met that day, so that's probably not a good idea. Plus, she seems like a psycho. He then grabs a sword, and threatens to shove it up my ass. I tell him go ahead, but I was just looking out for him because a baby with a crazy woman is a big commitment. Then he stabs himself in the face.

Weird.

I don't actually remember this thread, but as long as it's been resurrected...
This dream is a few months, maybe up to a year old so I'm fuzzier than usual on some of the details. I used to work a job that had very irregular and unpredictable hours, often at night. In the dream, we were coming back about four in the morning, tired as hell, and we stopped at the local 24-hour convenience store (which is a real place, fwiw) to fuel up and grab something to eat.
The food I got cost $13 and for some reason all I had was a $100 note. The clerk gave me an $87 note in change. This did not seem strange to me. Teddy Roosevelt was on it, and on the back it listed a number of fun facts about him-- probably an indication that I had been spending too much time on cracked.com. I didn't even begin to suspect that the note might be counterfeit until I realized it had been printed over something else.

I am too busy appearing in other people's dreams to remember my own. Actually these days I do get awkward flashbacks to what happened last month. I have woken up a few times with my shirt wet with sweat.

From the age of ~5 to 25, I cannot recall a single dream. I mention this because it was something that bothered me quite a bit in events that lead up to my obsessive posting and creation of The Potter account.
In the last 20 years, I estimate I slept about 70 000 hours.

I had a very fretful night's sleep about 6 months ago.
I'd fall asleep and immediately (so it seemed) begin dreaming a fearful dream.
e.g. In a darkened room, hear a big cat (assumed black panther) then see the eyes and then it leaps at me.
I wake up with a start, take a second to find my bearings, then I start to recognise surroundings like the dresser and the potted plant near the window etc. and fall back to sleep, only to immediately begin another fearful dream.
I had an axeman jump out at me, a bridge collapse under me, and a few others that I can no longer remember.
All night, about 10 mini-nightmares in total.

When the alarm finally came on in the morning I was exhausted.
The funny thing was though, that it was too dark to see the potted plant that gave me so much comfort each time I awoke from the mini-nightmare.
I had dreamt the whole thing, even the waking up and going back to sleep.

Inception eat your heart out.
