The rules are posted in the next post. It is a good idea for you to read them. The general premise of the game is a narrative adventure. Six people will /in and submit a role for themselves. This should have some general, light detail--a little more than just "35 year old male"--to help the mod(s) spice up the narrative, but there are no real "abilities" like in a D&D adventure. There will be something around two-day deadlines to keep the game moving, and V/LA can be taken into account as needed. The commitment of this game is more out of courtesy than necessity. Once all of the slots are filled and the co-mod situation is decided, we'll begin. Anybody else wishing to play can be on the replacement list to enter the story as people die (as I'm sure they will).
Alive and well:
1. Elethiomel - Dee Lucions of Grahn d'Heure, Interstellar Hero, Habitual Savior of the Galaxy; muscular, mindful, modest; possessor of a keen fifth sense, reverse clairvoyance, telescopic sight, adaptive telekinesis, and flight.
2. 3iff - Suzy Luxon, 39, married?, of W. European descent; formerly a ship pilot and Jack-of-all-Trades, anti-robots and hates guns.
3. Sentran - Tank Spanhammer, 35, former military; currently a general fixer with his trusty Sonic Spanner who may suffer from symptoms of PTSD
Decommissioned:
jadesmar - J, pinkish-brown humanoid, harmed by UV radiation and excesses of temperature
Undercover Monk - Constable Reggie, possessor of shiny and mysterious whistle, Master of Z-Gravity martial arts; loud noises, red, smooth jazz, and music boxes are physically impairing to him.
MNOWAX - Jack, grizzled war vet who suffered a major loss in the Battle of Wolf 359; master of the rail gun, enjoys "polishing his gun" and watching old Maury episodes.
novice - Zip Lighthead, 42, single, former Director of Inhuman Resources at the SITI*; enjoys Zombie movies, LARPing, and 20th Century Reenactment Fairs.
Joining later:
1. Sentran!
2.

Roll to Dodge is a fun roleplaying-esque game for a group of 6 people plus us, the mods. A bit like Dungeons and Dragons, but very simplified. You will be placed in a certain scenario, and you (may) be given a certain objective. Now here's the catch: for nearly every action you make, a die will determine the outcome.
The numbers on the six sided die are marked as follows:
1) Epic fail
2) Kinda fail
3) Kinda success
4) Success
5) Perfect success
6) Overshoot
For example, say Jack wants to jump over a wooden fence. Here are three examples of what might happen, given different rolls.
1. Jack tries to jump the wooden fence, but trips over his shoelace and smashes his face through it, breaking his nose.
2. Jack tries to jump the fence, but stumbles and slams into it, staggering back unhurt.
3. Jack jumps the fence, but his foot gets caught on the top and he faceplants on the other side, one leg hanging in the air.
4. Jack jumps the fence, and lands safely on the other side.
5. Jack jumps the fence cleanly, landing in a roll and keeping his forward momentum to continue running.
6. Jack clears the fence by a wide margin, flying another five feet to slam head-on into a tree on the other side, breaking his nose.
When multiple players' actions interact ... the dice will be rolled exactly the same way as before for each action, and the conflicts will be resolved however we like. (Mua-ha-ha!)
Rules:
- Only six (6) people may play at a time. Spots are filled on a first come first served basis, but if you did not make it in time, we can still add you to the waiting list.
- To keep this game moving at a good pace, after the actions from the last round are resolved, there will be a 2 day deadline for all players to take their turns. If you miss one deadline, your character will do nothing (except as below). If you miss two deadlines in a row or three overall, you will be removed from the game and the first person on the waiting list will take your spot. We will allow V/LA absences within reason - please discuss with us if you expect to be without access for an extended period.
- This game will use the declare system. To declare an action, post "Action: your action" in bold face. (For example: "Action: Shoot the lock.") To take back a declared action, post "Undo Action: the action being undone".
- When everyone's move has been declared or the deadline is reached, we will announce the turn has ended in-thread. Then the dice will be rolled for all actions and results determined and posted.
- We will only count the first action you posted that you haven't undone before we call turn ends. Exceptions will be allowed only for minor actions (looking around, talking, etc.) or at our discretion - we will let you know if your selected actions are permissible.
- If you do post multiple actions, we will only execute the first, but (1) we will keep in mind your plan when evaluating success and (2) if you miss posting the next turn, we'll go ahead and perform your second action (if it still makes sense). Thus, if you ask to, "Jump the fence, then punch the guy in the face", we will only roll on the "Jump the fence" action, but on a 5 you may end up being able to hit the guy anyway.
- You may post almost any action you desire. If you want to attempt to harness the power to fly or spontaneously grow a third arm, you can do so. You may not god-mod and ruin the fun for everyone, however - we reserve the right to veto and the right to force-replace for actions along these lines.
- You may kill or be killed by players or your actions, so be careful. Note, however, that if you attempt to kill another player early in the game and fail, the reaction from your fellow players might not be entirely positive. Note also that attempting to do something stupid (e.g. "Jump into the volcano") can lead to a very funny death.
- A final right we reserve is to add modifiers to rolls depending on circumstances. For example, if you are running on a broken leg, we might put an automatic -2; if you are attacking an ant with a bazooka, we might use an automatic +2. Rolls which are less than 1 or more than 6 after modifiers will have very interesting consequences!
On rare occasions, players will be allowed special bonuses under precisely defined circumstances. On actions where these special bonuses are ruled to be in effect (and this ruling shall be strictly at the moderator's discretion), the player will automatically reroll a 1 or a 6. (If they get a 1 or 6 on the reroll, however, the action stands, so be careful!)
Startup:
- After we post these rules and the setup flavor post, all players will receive PMs notifying them that the game has begun. Each player will then need to confirm in the thread by posting their first action.
- In each confirmation post, the player must describe the character they will be playing in the thread for the benefit of the other players. (If you want your player to have hidden characteristics - for example, "I'm secretly an FBI agent working undercover as an addict" - PM the mods first, and we'll work it out.)
- Any player who does not confirm within two days will be replaced.
- Any player whose character description is overly vague will be asked to clarify.
- After all players have confirmed, the mods will post the opening scene and the game will start.
I think that's everything you need to know so far. So lets get this show on the road! _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

That seems like a reasonable idea. In fact, it might make it more interesting for the players if you guys get to choose the theme. I'll provide some options in the first post, and as people sign up they can list their top two choices for the theme. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Theme options:
Zombie Apocalypse (my original thought, mostly because it would be fun to write)
Regular Apocalypse
Stranded on a "deserted" island
POWs behind enemy lines
Regular prison break
Star Wars universe |
I like all of these! I guess I'll vote up Zombies and vote down Star Wars, since I wouldn't do the universe justice. Although I would love a generic sci-fi theme. |

I like Middle Earth too, even though it wasn't on the list. |

I don't know how much involvement people think this will take, but it doesn't have to take much. Yes, it could go on for a very long time (I saw one on MS that lasted 18 months), but the most you have to do is check in and post a new action.
I just wanted to assuage any fears people might have about the amount of time it will take away from their other activities. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Ohh I need to generate a character for this? Ok, I'll need to know which theme we're using. A rough idea of setting/era/tech will do...even "present day" is enough.
I'll have to invent some roll tables for character generation (unless someone can point me in a suitable direction.) I want something that's "Not Me". |

That's all we need to start. Huzzah!
The top three themes are Zombie Apocalypse, Generic Sci-fi, and Middle Earth. Everybody let me know your top pick, and we'll go with that.
Once that is done, everybody send me a light character description. Again, this is not something extensive, but rather something to help me spice up the narrative. If your character is ex-military, that will help me capture how the character views the world and the motivations for their actions. Additionally, just because your character is ex-military doesn't make them automatically proficient with weapons.
After the theme and the characters are done, I will post an introduction to the narrative, then you will submit your first round of actions in the thread.
In sum: vote for theme, send character description, mod introduction, then submit actions. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

My character:
Zip Lighthead, 42, former Director of Inhuman Resources at the SITI* institute in Bruxelles. Had to leave after investigations into allegations of asexual harassment revealed "mistakes" in his resumé. Currently self-employed and giving workshops on how to take the express elevator to the top of the corporate ladder.
On his spare time he enjoys Zombie movies, Live-Action Roleplaying, and 20th century reenactment fairs. He also spends time looking for a life partner, but he doesn't enjoy it.

His name is Dee. Dee Lucions, of Grahn d'Heure. Interstellar hero, habitual savior of the galaxy. Male, muscular, mindful, modest. Has a keen fifth sense.
Other superpowers include:
- Reverse clairvoyance (sees the past with great inaccuracy)

- Flight (the better part of valor)

The year is 2389. The six of you are on a ship bound for a distant colony. The Aeterna is carrying volunteers to the planet Rutorak to enhance the population of the fledgling colony there. The journey has taken nearly four years, though you haven’t been idle during that time. Each person on the ship rotationally participates in the different tasks needed to sustain the community during the flight, and each has also been attending classes designed to prepare the person for their new environment. The trip hasn’t been all work though. The juggernaut ship is outfitted with different areas for recreational activities including multiple holo-decks for entertainment.
The Aeterna is on its final approach to Rutorak. With only six hours to go, a Princua warship assaults the colony ship. There has long been enmity between the Princua and the Coalition, and the colony is in disputed territory. They have assailed your ship to prevent the furtherance of the colony. Their standard course of action is to board the ship and take prisoners while gaining control of the ship with minimal damage. The six of you are awoken by the alarms in your apartment area. You all leap out of bed and don your generic flight suit. You know there are emergency escape pods for such a situation, but you also know there is a store room nearby which contains weapons among other supplies. The Princua are trying to breach the ship 2600 metres from your position.
What do you do?
Current status of all players: Every person is alert, healthy, and dressed in their flight suit.
Current location: Apartment area. There is a kitchen, bathroom, and living area within your complex. The main door leads to the hallway and the rest of the ship. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Can you provide a description of the Princua...physical, weaponry, tecnology.
When in close contact with other players can we discuss strategies/actions between us before performing actions?
Do our flight suits contain comms equipment so we can talk to each other over distances?
Are you annoyed by all my questions yet? |

The Princua are hulking, green, lizard-like bi-peds with spikes growing out of their shoulders. They have standard technology compared to the Coalition's.
Talking is always a free action, and I see no reason why you can't talk over distances through technology in your suit. However, I don't know that you guys even like each other, so you'll have to decide that amongst yourselves.
Reminder about actions: only one will be resolved at a time (excepting very minor actions), but any subsequent actions (like Elethiomel's) will be considered in the cases of perfect success or subsequent round submissions. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting.
