I've still got about 4 hours left of work. 8 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week. Of being allowed to do nothing. _________________

A kidnet stone.
I drove myself to the hospital and had to wait nearly ywo hours before getting a painkiller
I had one five years ago so I knew exactly what it was. I'm all doped up now. |

Drugs are working great.
No one asked "What's a kidnet?" or "How long is ywo hours?"
The last time it happened it was 3 AM in a small hospital in a small town. There were no other patients and the staff was tripping over each other to help me. This was a much busier hospital, late morning, and a heavy rain caused several auto accidents that sent people to the ER. |

Guy at my school today came to ask for my cell phone. Said his step-dad had kicked him out and he needed to call to plea to get back in. Said he hadn't eaten in two days. He also said that he was looking for a $38 bus ticket to get to Philly to maybe see a family member who could help him out. I hate being in situations like these because it plays a game of 20 questions on your morality. Gave him half my lunch and I was on my way.
If I had the money on me at the time, I would have gladly given it to him to get to Philly. Hope the poor guy finds his way through. |

Oy, two posts from me in five days, things are not going well.
Flew back one way to NY on Delta. Hopefully for the last godforsaken time. The whole trip reminded me of how I just hate airports. Full body scan, patdown, metal detector rigamarole, sitting in the same spot for about five hours, nothing to eat on the plane (long story) except a steady diet of salted nuts and coca cola, landed the flight in JFK early (one upside), followed a painfully long and winding path to baggage claim, only to get a call and find out some one accidentally put my baggage on the wrong flight. Took the air train and the subway home only to be too late to get the express and roll down every local stop. Huge pain in the bum, but home now at 2:10 in the morning. Good thing I don't have anything to get up for.
Maybe next week will be better...
EDIT: And yes "things could be worse". It's just so darned hard to hold onto that mantra when it seems like everything that could go wrong does. The plane could have crashed, then I wouldn't have to live to bitch. _________________ Potato. Belgium. Eight. Random Lynch # Mafia awaits. |

Did you contract this because you were around some kid? You're old enough and your reaction against the anti-vax movement suggests you were probably vaccinated at some point, so I'm not sure how else you could have gotten it. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

Did you get your adult pertussis booster? It's the "p" in dTap.
And please, for the love of God, stay away from children, the elderly, and the compromised while you're sick and infectious.
Get well soon! |

I am so sorry you are sick. Durryn had it two summers ago and as a result our infant got it 3 weeks before his vaccination was scheduled. Before we had the baby we had no idea that a booster was recommended around 23. I got mine when the baby was born, but we had no insurance for him and money was super tight with me on maternity leave.
Oh he was miserable, sleep at an angle an drink as many liquids as you can. |

I had the same GP for the past 40 years, with regular 18 month checkups.. but, no mention of dTap that I apparently should have had 17 years ago..
Now I'm worried about what else I can catch. |

Yeah, our GP hadn't mentioned it either. I think it is getting a lot of attention because of the number of cases. THere has been a dramatic increase in the last 3 years. I wonder if it is a new recomendation based on this new epidemic.
Docters, like in so many other professionals have to try to keep up with many changes to thier practice all the time. _________________ I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong. |

Not so much "miserable," but a little stressed.
My wife may be missing her period. Right now we both know it is late, but she is unsure of how far into August her last one went. We're totally fine with having a baby (we aren't exactly in the financial situation we would like, but we can roll with those punches), but the problem is she has an IUD. If she is pregnant, that could cause complications whether it stays in or is removed in the near future. I think that's really what is stressing me out. I don't want my wife to be harmed by it, and I don't want to jeopardize the potential life of the child either.
It's just weighing on me. She's going to the doctor Saturday, but there are just so many unknowns and situations running through my head. I already can't sleep. This could be a long few days. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

From the been there done that table (My IUD baby is a great blessing that came with lots of stress )
Get a home pregnancy test and find out, a good one can detect the hormones 5 days Before a missed period, the cheep king from the dollar store is closer to 2 weeks after. but save yourself the stress and just find out.
Even if she is, if she is likely to be more than 4 weeks along and isn't in pain it is unlikely to be ectopic. That is the biggest hazard with the IUD. With luck, if she is pregnant it has implaned high in the uterus or the IUD has dropped down (causing it to be less effective). Early detection is key either way. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. |

That cough is no joke.
I'm still recovering, but I'm passed the coughing until passing out, or coughing until stomach contents are cleared.. or.. in the most scary of circumstances the combination of the two.
Stuff like that killed Jimi Hendrix and Bon Scott.
Anyhow. Recovering. |

I started to feel slightly ill last Monday so I go some Dayquil and suck it up. By Tuesday I have a low grade fever, Thursday night I am shaking so hard I can hardly breath, Friday I get the bright idea to suck up the bill and go to the DR. half an hour be for they close. Time loses all meaning when you only get two hour stints of sleep and wake. Saturday I have a friend drive me into Urgent Care. Fever is a yes, but there is nothing else. Even the runny nose at the beginning seems to have gone. It is probably a virus and with out any other symptoms to check on(and with out insurance in the Urgent care) Doc suggests that if the fever doesn't subside by Monday to check in with my regular Doctor. Test are expensive and I would rather not be stabbing in the dark with a Dr. that doesn't know me, especially if it is a virus that I will just have to wait out. Nothing but worse on Sunday. Monday the Doctor decides to do some chest x-rays and a urine test. Low and behold, it is a sever kidney infection which explained why my back hurt so bad.
Being sick sucks, but what is worse are all the things I couldn't get done that will have significant consequences. Bills won't get paid, assignments didn't get turned in, my students didn't get the quality of instruction they deserve, I missed my son's conference and Thanksgiving is at our house... 18 people in 2 days.
There are bright lights, my husband has stayed supportive (mostly, he issued a no wining rule the first day, for me and the kids). a friend took the kid one day and my mom took them this week, and than goodness it isn't something they can catch. And the girls are coming to help with the house. No telling what will happen with the money. _________________ I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong. |
