| My wireless internet suddenly stopped working. I tried rebooting the modern and router, and even reset the router to factory settings and set it up brand new. My wireless network says it has an excellent signal, but cannot connect to it. Plughing my modem directly into my laptop doesnt work. Am I right in assuming that these indicate a modem problem, not a router problem? |

A) Can you browse other computers on the network?
B) Does your laptop work on other wireless networks?
Sounds like the modem so far though. I mean, plugging into it directly and still no-go is a pretty good indicator. You've bypassed the router at that point. But double check the above if possible, as it could be the laptop as well. _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. You are an intelligent and capable person, but double check that you have the wires all plugged into the proper ports. In a hurry, I've accidentally plug things in the wrong spot before. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

| Everything was working fine. I have two admin accounts on my computer, one set for tv screen viewing, the other for regular laptop usage. I was on one account, internet working fine, decided to switch to the other account when I could no longer connect to the internet. Nothing came unplugged because I wasnt even in the room with the modem and router. I have checked them since in the process of rebooting them - no loose cables. Can I buy a new modem or does my cable company need to supply it? |

| I only have my laptop and phone. The phone has no connection through my wireless (yay for unlimited data plan), and I'll check the laptop later (it was 2 am, I don't think my parents wanted me to come over to steal their wireless then) |

It depends on your company. My cable company requires me to use their modem (even though I have the exact same one myself ), so you should ask them. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

| Time warner. They said they modem wasn't connecting or some such thing, so a service guy is coming out tomorrow. Meanwhile, thanks, parental units, for the wifi. |

excellent. Time warner's modems burn out REALLY FAST for some reason, they are trash. I have had to replace my modem 8 times in the 10 years I have had their services. _________________ The Man The Myth The Legend

| Then this one was clearly overdue, I've had it for 3 years. 3 flawless years, actually, but I guess it got a glance at a calendar. |

Apparently what they meant by telling me twice that there was no internet outage in my area, is that, in fact, there was an internet outage in my area.
Fixed now. Modem fine, router being reset. |
