Buccaneers 20, Vikings 10, halftime. Probably no wipeout team today.

for a little extra fun my 10 ten (before last nights game)

1. Falcons-til they lose they will remain there
2. Bears-quietly became the most complete team in the NFL
3. Giants- can be scary good but also scary bad
4. 49ers- a few hickups against good teams but still would not want to meet them in the playoffs
5. Texans- Only reason they are this low is the NFC is that dominat this year
6. Packers- Crushed two good teams on the road back to back look out.
7. Seahawks- this team will not lose at home.
8. Patriots- same record but lost to seatle means this is where they belong.
9. Ravens- With their injuries Baltimore could be heading for a freefall
10. Vikings- I cant believe this team is second in the division. super impressed. Are they for real?

Answer NO

new #10: Broncos after a brutal early schedual they should be able to coast into the playoffs in the weakest division in the weakest conference.

dark horse AFC candidates: Pittsburg could be on the way to securing a division title if BAL cant right the ship. Miami has been competitive in every game and the Pats are not unbeatable. Colts if they can stay at 500 could challenge for a wildcard (fanboy dream but the AFC just sucks this year.)

darkhorse NFC candidates: with the top 10 filled with NFC teams these guys have their work cut out for them. Washington should stay relevant but will they be able to grab a wildcard when the NFC west and NFC north are so competitive. Saints started horribly but if Brees can get hot they still have a chance but a loss to the broncos this week could put the final nail in their coffin. mediocrity will not make the playoffs in the NFC

Wow. It sure didn't take long for New England to get beat with a deep ball. It makes me so sad to have such a lame pass defense -- no significant pressure and terrible secondary. I don't see a super bowl in this team unless this changes.

In the second quarter The Jets and The Chargers have nothing. The Colts, Titans, and Jaguars each have a field goal.

They also had no significant pressure and a terrible secondary last year. They managed to mostly overcome it last year by having really good tight ends.

The game of the century is about to start. The Cardinals will be tied for first place if they win and two games behind if they lose.

Zag, Undercover Monk, JDTAY, The Potter are likely to score this week. Of course, only Zag is completely safe right now.

Enthusiastic Grin I gained another 270 points this week. Three more weeks should do it. Too bad next week is a bye for SF. I think I'll pick everyone but their opponent the following week and thereafter.

The Cardinals came within a yard of getting a touchdown on their final 4th down play of the game. That touchdown would have allowed The Potter to score and wiped out five players.

The Forty-niners' opponents have been the wipeout team four of the last five weeks (including a three-way tie one week). That makes it seem like their opponent would be a good bet to be the wipeout team, but the other week, the Forty-niners themselves were the lone wipeout team.

So, I've been picking using only two sources of information: A spreadsheet in which I've pasted all the results so far from Chuck's weekly results, sorted by team, and this page: http://www.nfl.com/schedules where it shows the offensive and defensive rankings. (Click on a game to see.)

But I'm puzzled by their rankings. WTH are they based on? Consider the scores for the Falcons so far (from my spreadsheet):

Falcons 40
Falcons 27
Falcons 27
Falcons 30
Falcons 24
Falcons 23
Falcons 30

Why are they only ranked 13th in offense?

Typically offense and defense ranking are based on yardage, rather than points. Also, Atlanta has played a fairly weak schedule so far (and will continue to do so; they'll likely play exactly 2 playoff teams this season).

That seems like a bad choice for ranking. After all, if some team has 400 yard per game but only 14 point per game, it means that they turn the ball over way too much, which implies a stinky offense, IMHO. Give me the team with a consistent 280 yards & 24 points per game (with a good defense that causes turnovers) and I'll take them to the Superbowl.

Well, but that could only mean they have a poor red zone offense or the other teams have good red zone defenses. Also, the defense could make points.

Atlanta actually is not that great of a team despite the points they've scored and the games they've won. I doubt they would do very well in the playoffs.

Not that it's working, but my new strategy has been to take the Vegas over/under lines and spreads to calculate the exact points Vegas believes each team will score. I figure they know what they are talking about.

FYI...Vegas has Arizona as the wipeout team (again) this week.

Did you see how the 15-1 Packers did in the playoffs last year? I will still say the Falcons aren't that good.
