Basically I am looking for a single program that will rip an entire CD to one MP3 file, aiming to put a few of these on one CD to play in our gallery. Googling leaves me more confused than ever. Does anyone have good experience with such a program?

PS: at the moment I am ripping with a standard program like WindowsMedia Player, and then combining the separate MP3's with the program All Free MP3 joiner. Time consuming.

On the Mac, I use SoundFlower for this kind of stuff.
Essentially you can fake a digital speaker and just record the sounds sent to the speaker as an mp3 (or whatever).
Set it up and press play. Simple.

There's a similar application for Windows Jack-Audio, but I've never used it so can't recommend it personally.

EAC or exact audio copy was the bootlegger's program of choice 10 years ago when I was into that sort of Greatful Dead/Genesis/Phish scene.

There was a bit of tweaking involved in changing in the output from a compressed lossless quality into a lossly format like mp3, but it wasn't too bad.

Audacity is a good, free audio editing program.

They recommend several programs for ripping cd audio here (including a Windows one that can rip the audio into one file).
