Very nice sir!

For shits and grins, I dusted off Super Mario World and gave it a go.

My best any% is around 15 minutes. Good players can sub 12. It's disgusting how studied and perfected SMW is.

It would be absolutely trivial for me to get sub-20.

First, I mistakenly thought I needed the yellow and green switch palaces for one of the star road levels. Then, while I was doing it, somebody was watching and I discovered they had no clue that the Top Secret Area existed, so I showed them. Finally, I died once in Bowser's Castle.

His current run is down 59 seconds from his last run. If he keeps that deficit, he's got the WR.

Edit: Make that -1:11. 30 stars to go.

Edit: That...was the biggest choke I've ever seen. He died right before getting the star that quite possibly takes the longest to get in the entire game, losing minutes.

Yeah, that choke was epic. -1:33 after TTC, he should've had the WR.

Hey so I have a PC able to run games again, catching up on a bunch of steam sale games I bought but could not play (holy crap does spacechem get complicated fast). In addition to joining spyparty soon (cmon beta invite....) I am on minecraft again and wondering if anyone here knows of fun public servers to play some MP on? Just something to try out, I'd probably still play mainly private groups and lan stuff.

Also they are releasing adventure mode now which essentially lets you set up a map, and I think it'd be great for some puzzle themed adventures since mining and other block manipulation is turned off. You could probably make that labyrinth game from that episode of batman the animated series...this way to the eating place..

If you like spacechem, then the same dev has Codex of Alchemical Engineering and Kohctpyktop: Engineer of the People available for free. (Although Kohctp-whatever has a fairly steep learning curve; you'll need some electrical engineering experience to do much with that.)

New best: 1:03:21

First the good: Got hammer kill on bowser, FINALLY. Seriously saves like 30 seconds by itself. Most levels went smoothly overall. No major screw ups.

Then the bad: Died 3 times in world 5. Seriously, I hate the sky so much.
Got the damn coinship in world 3, forcing me to skip the 2nd hammer and preventing me from skipping the first fort in world 4.
7-1 zip took longer than it should. Got it around try 10 or so.
Missed star kill on the 1st fort in world 6.
Got two hands, but that's just luck. Can't do anything about that.

1:02 possible? Do I dare dream that I could cut 1?

Lego Lord of the Rings

Here we go again. Travellers' Tales haven't quite started scraping the bottom of the barrel yet; every game in this endless franchise introduces some new twists to a well-established formula even though the basic principles of smashing everything in sight and figuring out how to combine character abilities to reach hidden objects has remained the same since the original Star Wars games.

This time around they have also opted to use voices. Whilst this was fine in the Batman 2 game as it was an original script that was able to blend the visual slapstick with additional one-liners, here they have tried to use lines from the Jackson movies but overall this has a lesser effect as the overt comedy feels a bit of a bad fit with the more serious tone of the dialogue. Having said that, there are times when it just works like a charm.

So no, it's not the best in the series (upon reflection I think that may be the first of the Harry Potter games), but even an average Lego game is still terrific.

Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes here. I usually stay a game behind on the Lego games. Mostly becuase I believe they are well worth $20, but not much more than that.

This one's smaller than previous Lego games. Though some levels are longer. It's got an original story to it, which is pretty good. For the series as a whole, having something that they can get original material out of is golden, since they won't run out of movies for this one. While I do like the stuff in Gotham City itself, I think Lego Harry Potter (both 1-4 and 5-7) did that hub system much, much better.

Yea, I'd call this a step down from Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7, but it's still a fun Lego game. Lego Star Wars III is still my favorite.

I must admit that I did laugh all the way through Batman 2, which had enough jokes in the "cut scenes" to survive the second (or third) visits that the game needs. I agree that the hub of Gotham is a bit unwieldy: then again, just wait until you have the whole of Middle Earth to go at. Extreme Delectation (There's a map navigation system for LotR, so it doesn't feel quite as overwhelming as it might at first appear, but it's not very intuitive.)

Just picked up a couple of indie puzzle games on Steam: "The Bridge" and "AntiChamber"

Both of them involve puzzle-solving in a non-Euclidean space, though they go about it differently.

AntiChamber is a 3-D maze that challenges your very definition of the term. Some of the geometric puzzles involve paths that loop back on themselves unexpectedly or connect in impossible ways, or even that lead to different places depending on your perspective. Later puzzles allow you to manipulate blocks in a Minecraft-esque fashion and use them to build bridges and block lasers.

The Bridge is a 2-D platformer in artful Escherspace environments. Paths cross in front of each other in very illusive ways and gravity can change to match them, or may even be different for various puzzle elements.

Both are currently on sale on Steam but I think the sale is ending soon.

I thought I read that those were released to Ps3 last month. Confused

Still, I feel for you. I've got a few friends who have given me their lengthy complaints. Should you not be upset with Microsoft for binding Bethesda like they did?

Bethesda have sent mixed messages about how they both can and cannot make things work on the Ps3 system and are working with Sony Japan. They actively deny selling out to Microsoft, but pretty much everyone knows that they did. I knew they were planning to bring Dragonborn out eventually, though last I checked it was set to be the only DL for the PS3

Regarding that, Microsoft doesn't annoy me so much, they made a proposal to Bethesda, which Bethesda accepted based on the existing xbox, pc, ps3 market at the time. Simply put, Bethesda could have said no, but they didn't. And in the business sense, they did what they thought was best. Sucks for Ps3, but keeps Bethesda in business unlike some other companies (THQ)

Probably, though the Ps4 seems to be aimed at the creativity model similar to a lot of Apple technology and more for indie gamers/developers. I have had the advantage of brothers buying the opposite consoles. e.g . I own pc, ps1, ps2, ps3. My brother owns pc, xbox, xbox360, and Wii console. So we simply play games to death and then trade for 6 months of the year.

I have played a flash game that had the same music as that Bridge trailer. It's going to drive me crazy now. I thought it was Closure at first (since it's a similiar puzzle/adventure game), but that's not it. Grrrrrr....

And I am grabbing AntiChamber while it's on sale.
