Good articulation. I must admit, the video wasn't what I was expecting at all. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

I was highly amused by this site: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions/popular
The site was set up by the White House, with the promise that they will give actual consideration (they don't say how much, exactly) to any petition that gets more than 25,000 signatures.
The entertainment value is the nut-jobs out there (including tons on secessionists, mostly from states which receive far more from the federal government than they pay), but there are many that are deserving of consideration, too. It is, in any case, an interesting experiment in Democracy.
There are also some that are just fun, like this one: Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016. |

There have been secession petitions made for every state, most of them are copy-pastes of the Texas one. The one for Kansas was started by a guy in Alabama. I would imagine other states are the same. It means nothing. _________________

The Death Star petition has crossed the 25 kilosignature threshold. As has one to deport everyone that signed a petition to secede from the union.
Earlier this year, in the interest of "safety" my company instituted a policy requiring everyone to back into parking spaces (never mind that there was at least one serious accident resulting from someone following that policy). Last week a coworker got a nasty-gram left on his car at a customer site for backing into his parking spot. |

Searching for "anagram" shows "Did you mean: nag a ram" in the English version and "Essayez avec cette orthographe : gare maman" in the French one.
Searching for "Ascii Art" changes the "Google" on the top right corner into a legitimate ascii artwork.
Searching for "define anagram" shows "Did you mean: nerd fame again".
Searching for "do a barrel roll" or "Z or R twice" will rotate the results page a full 360 degrees. This is a reference to the Nintendo video game Star Fox 64.
Searching for "recursion" shows "Did you mean: "recursion", which allows you to recursively run searches for recursion.
Searching for "Jason Isaacs" shows "Hello to Jason Isaacs", a reference to Kermode and Mayo's Film Reviews which greets Jason Isaacs with a 'hello' every week
Before and during the span of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, searching for various terms which Google has statistics related to, such as "world cup", "world cup usa vs england", or "world cup brazil", causes the result index at the bottom of the page to read as "Gooooooooooal!" instead of "Goooooooooogle".[1]
Searching for "tilt" or "askew" using a Webkit based browser (such as Google Chrome, Safari, Epiphany, or Android/iOS built-in browsers) or a recent version of Firefox (7+), makes the page 'lean' to the right a bit. Searching for "untilt" puts it right back.
Around December 2011 and January 2012, Searching for "let it snow" simulates snowfall and frost on the search results. After a while, the search screen fogs up and the blue search button changes to Defrost, enabling the user to defrost the page clicking and rubbing it like a window. Interaction with the actual search screen is disabled until the Defrost button is pressed (even if the entire screen is manually defrosted). Search screen will cease to fog up once the Defrost button is pressed.
Searching for "hanukkah" changes the border between the search bar and search results into a row of lights shaped like the Star of David.
Searching for "kwanzaa" changes the border between the search bar and search results into a row of Kinara
Searching for "kerning" or "keming" changes the letter-spacing of the word "kerning" or "keming", respectively.
Searching for "binary" changes the number of found results to read out in binary, unless personal results are found. This also works with other number systems such as "hexadecimal" and "octal".
Searching for "qingming festival" (or 清明节) returns a search page containing a stylized tree in the top right, water buffalo in the bottom right, and a jumping koi when the page is clicked.
Searching for "zerg rush" returns a search page with 'O's eating the search results. Clicking each 'O' three times kills it. This is a reference to an early attack known as a 'zergling rush' in the Blizzard game Starcraft. After the inevitable destruction of all links, the 'O's form the letters GG in reference to the standard end of game formality and means good game.[2]
Searching for "conway's game of life" returns a search page with Conway's Game of Life running behind the results along with a set of controls to play, pause, maximize/restore, and step.
Searching "Bacon Number *name*" Displays the bacon number of a famous actor. Searching "Bacon number Kevin Bacon" gives a result of 0.
Searching for horror or halloween related terms returns the result along with three bats on the upper right corner of the page which fly away as soon as the mouse cursor hovers over them. This easter egg was launched on October 31 2012.
Searching for "festivus" displays an unadorned aluminum pole running down the side of the list of the search results in recognition of the secular holiday Festivus. Launched December 10, 2012.[3]
Searching for "Christmas" or any phrase with 'Christmas' in, results in a string of Christmas lights underneath the search bar. |

There were two cans on the kitchen counter. Mrs. Q told me to go drain the mixed vegetables. I opened the can most of the way, leaving the lid attached by about a half inch. I then poured it out in the sink, holding the lid so the vegetables wouldn't fall out. It seemed like an awful lot of liquid, and when I was done, the can seened really light. Extremely light. Only when I held it up to see what the net weight was supposed to be did I realize that had just drained a can of chicken broth. |

Woman drives 900 miles out of her way after GPS error
By Mike Krumboltz | The Sideshow
Put too much faith in technology and you may wind up in Croatia. A 67-year-old woman from Belgium learned that the hard way after she followed (faulty) directions from her GPS device.
The woman only wanted to go about 90 miles from her hometown of Hainault Erquelinnes, Belgium, to pick up a friend at the Brussels train station. Her GPS device sent her about 900 miles to the south before (during the second day of driving) she realized that something was amiss. It's unclear if she entered the address incorrectly or if the GPS was faulty.
Discovery explains that the driver, Sabine Moreau, stopped twice for gas, slept on the side of the road, and "even suffered a minor car accident" along the way. She told El Mundo that she wasn't paying attention.
I was distracted, so I kept driving. I saw all kinds of traffic signs, first in French, then German and finally in Croatian, but I kept driving because I was distracted. Suddenly I appeared in Zagreb and I realized I wasn't in Belgium anymore.
The lesson here: If you start seeing road signs in (multiple) foreign languages, pull over. You're probably going the wrong way. |

This is more what amused me a couple days ago, but I thought certain GL'ers would appreciate it.
I'm playing in an Orpheus campaign, and a couple session ago the GM reveal that my in-game brother had died a couple years ago without my parents telling me. (I already had reason to believe that he might me haunting my character.)
Last session, I checked on-line for his obituary. The GM said he was killed in a "freak hit and run"; one of my fellow players heard this as he was killed in a "free kitten run". So now our campaign canonically has clans of vicious feral cats, one of which killed my in-game brother. |

The threat of impending snow last night led to the advance decision to early release school today. A dusting of snow began at about 11:00, and my afternoon classes were subsequently cancelled. As it stands, 95% of the ground and roads are free of white stuff.
North Carolinians sure do freak out about this stuff. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

A famous anagram is "Woman Hitler". It unshuffles to "Mother in Law".
On a whim, I plugged Father in Law into an anagram site. Amongst the many results it came up with "Near Halfwit".
Now I really like this. |

| As a Houston Chronicle subscriber, I receive e-mails about their "hot stories". Today's are about fighting health care fraud and an 'exclusuve' interview with the man who shot bin Laden. The subject line, however, read "Obama shooter exclusive | Fighting healthcare fraud". It's the first e-mail from them that I've opened before deleting. |

I remember hearing some factoid that most giraffe intercourse is male on male action. So they might have wanted to preserve the sanctity of their network by only showing heterosexual animal porn. _________________ Artwork | Fractals | Don't ignore your dreams; don't work too much; say what you think; cultivate friendships; be happy. |

That was the battle, only they didn't show the discussion about how predators (animals with claws and teeth) fight. They showed more action. They ended up side by side facing opposite directions, so each blow with their nubby horns tore into the rump of the opponent. Eventually the big bull dropped to his knees, his flank all bloody. As the younger one went to swing at his neck the older one ducked and swung his own neck at the young one during his follow through, taking all four legs out from under him. The older one stood up and looked down at the younger one and both knew it was over.
That's when I thought they'd show the Giraffe porn, but no - they changed the subject to a Drongo that mimics the predator alarm call of a Meerkat sentry, causing the whole colony to abandon the fine grubs and bugs they were eating and scramble to their den. The Drongo (it's a bird) then cleans up all the scraps. |

I'm a bit confused why they're calling it rare and surprising? I'm sure I've seen video of giraffes fighting before. I'll grant them rare, there's probably not hundreds of hours of footage of giraffes fighting, but surprising? It's known they do that.
I'm also amused that this thread as turned into a brief discussion of giraffes. |

The idea of various types of bands named Massive Panic Erection has had me giggling for half an hour now.
