I've absolutely no idea...but it might be Elethiomel's comments.

I'm just about to go home so I'll have some actions tomorrow. Looks like I was transported with 3 idiots!

Action: Get up before the Lassie fan tries to kiss me too. Post a message on the ship's Shwitter channel, warning people about the Princua's blinding light weapon, that's already abducted Suzy, Huey, Dewey and Louie.

- Gah. More spam on Shwitter. Although, that reminds me...

Action: Sync my towel with the backup towel. Once the towels agree on all aspects of the ship's state, ask for directions to the breach. (Or follow the sounds of swearing.)

Instruction to towel: Go floppy. That should allow the towel to unknot, freeing my hands. (It's also the story of my life, sigh, thinks Suzy.)

Action: use the qComp to determine my location, status and check my qmail.

The "evil and genius" can't completely apply to me, I'm not evil.

Those guys aren't Huey, Dewey and Louie...more like Larry, Curly and Moe!

Turn 31 Resolution:

011023891144

MNO: 5

Another grenade blast occurs, rattling Jack’s cover. He jumps around the corner and shoots through the haze of smoke with startling accuracy. Four of them fall to the firing of his railgun, and the other three duck behind their own cover. Jack then waves the other soldiers to press forward to better positions. The Lieutenant approaches Jack to speak, but Jack cuts him off. “Bring us some backup. I don’t give a damn what else is happening on this ship. If we can stop them here, especially those special weapons they’ve got, then we can clean up our ship later.” The Lieutenant glares at him, but calls for backup. Within minutes, another squad of twenty soldiers comes through the breach to aid the group fending off a new pack of Princua.

“Now we show these goddam bugs what we’re made of, Lieutenant,” boasts Jack as he changes out his ammo clip.

Jack has a knife, a rail gun and 3 ammo clips.

Elethiomel: 3

Dee looks around the corridor to try gathering his bearings in relation to the breach. “Go floppy,” Suzy says through the towel, though her voice is a little muffled. She can’t possibly know what’s going on with my member...can she? No! She must be being assaulted! Dee remembers that he can sync the towels and maybe get a location on Suzy so he can help her out. He commands the towel to do so, and waits for the results. The towel works through its sync process, but it becomes stuck when syncing to the time and condition of the ship. “I don’t understand. It must be broken,” mutters Dee.

Dee has his towel, three grenades, two cans of cat food, four ammo clips, and two wrenches.

novice: 6

It’s a Princua weapon! I’m not sure what it does, but if they make enough of us disappear off the ship, they can just walk through here and take over. It might even teleport us right into their brig. I’ve got to warn people by posting this to a terminal. Zip jumps up with surprising speed at the urgency of his message, but he trips over the medical personnel going down the line to discern everybody’s status. Her accompanying orderly grabs Zip and puts him back in the line of wounded. Zip shouts at the two of them, “You don’t understand! I have to warn people about the Princua weapon. The light swallows them and makes them disappear!”

“It’s true,” agrees the woman who kissed Zip, “The light swallows people.”

“I see,” responds the doctor. “Well, we better get you both some immobilizers.”

“What?!” shouts Zip even louder than before. “You have to believe me that this is important.”

“This woman has a contusion on her brain. I can only assume that if you are telling the same story, something must also be wrong with your brain,” explains the doctor with an air of explaining something very simple to a dense student.

Zip leaps up again to try making a break for it, but the orderly wraps him up making it impossible for Zip to move.

“You’re going to be difficult, I see,” tuts the doctor.

Zip has a Dragonslayer with 5 shotgun rounds and two grenades remaining.

Sentran: 1

Tank continues toward the sound of battle. As he gets near the breach, he unslings his weapon and gets ready to fire at whatever Princua might be around the corner. He then charges around the corner only to trip over a Princua body lying across the opening. He falls on his face, bloodying his nose, and lands behind the huddling squad which turns to look at him. Almost immediately, their attention is turned back the other direction, and they start to move forward. “I guess I better go tell Jack that one of his reckless friends is here to help,” says the Lieutenant to no one in particular.

Tank just lies there too stunned to move. Eventually, another squad comes through the breach, and they spare him barely a glance as they pass around him.

Tank has a bloody nose. He will suffer negative consequences if he does not stop the bleeding in two rounds.

Tank has an assault rifle with 200 rounds and a sheet.

3iff: 4

I guess it’s good they don’t know what the towel can do. “Go floppy,” Suzy instructs the towel. It obeys her command, and she pulls out her qComp to check exactly what is going on around here. She discovers she is in a storage room at the far end of the ship from Command, and she figures the breach must be between the two. Before leaving the storage room to get ahead of those bonehead crew members, she decides to see if there is anything relevant in her Qmail. She only has one spam message for the newest guns on the market. As she disgustedly begins to delete it, she notices the timestamp of the message: “received 6 hours from now.” From NOW?!

“I don’t understand. It must be broken,” says Dee through the towel, a strange echo of Suzy’s own thoughts. She checks the time of her qComp, and it says the time is 05:42 this morning.

What the hell happened?

Suzy has a kitchen knife and Dee’s back-up towel.

At Last!

Action: Tell Dee that I seem to be in the past by a few hours. As I know that will scramble up, also send a qmail explaining the situation as I understand it...that I'm in a time where the Princua breach has yet to happen."

I should also be heading to the captain to show my evidence.

(Thanks for the '4'. I needed that.)

*checks qmail*

Oh. That's an interesting message I got six hours ago. Strange that I didn't notice it before!

Action: Do a quick search for recent lottery numbers and send them back to Suzy. Look for the others and tell them we must go off on a tangent, because we're in the wrong parallel universe.

OOC: I guess my interest is waning a bit, but this takes a lot more effort on your part than it does from me. So I'm happy to play along for now, but maybe you should start thinking about a finale of some kind? Revenge most foul!

I never really had in mind an ending. The way it worked on another forum is there was a list of people who wanted to join in, so when somebody rolled badly enough times in a row, they were killed off so another could join. The story was pretty much never-ending for that purpose, though new crises were introduced. I figured the same would happen here until there just was no interest in it anymore. If that's the case, it can just die. If three people are still interested, I can keep going.

I have no personal attachments to this, so I don't need for it to keep going. I thought it would be fun and interesting for the players, and I was therefore happy to provide such entertainment. All that said, if you guys are finished, then it's good. If you really want me to provide closure of some sort, I can help you in the direction of eliminating the threat and landing on the planet. Your choice.

I decided I'll just keep going with however many people want to continue. It may turn into something like raekuul's game where only one person is really playing, but that will just mean it takes me less time to write. Wink With that said, just let me know if you want out and I'll pause your character somewhere. If you want in, please say so and send a character.

Sorry for the delay in the new post. I took this discussion as an excuse not to type the new scene during my mid-term craziness. I'll have the new scene up in a couple hours.

Turn 32 Resolution:

011023891149

MNO: -

“You know, Lieutenant, everything might not still be there in my head, but I’ve sensed you feeling threatened by me. All I can say to that is ‘go blow yourself.’”

“You son of a--” stammers the Lieutenant.

“I ain’t gunning for any of your authority. I was killing Raknots on Farfonne when you was sucking on your momma’s tit back on Earth 2.0. I’ve been there and done that, and I don’t want to deal with that bureaucratic shit again. I like being a rogue when I need to be, but I would much rather sit at home at my leisure being a crotchety ol’ fart. Just stick your dick back in your pants, ‘cause there’s no need to measure.” I’ve already got you beat.

The Lieutenant looks for a moment like he might explode, then he softens and offers to shake hands. Jack accepts the proffered hand. “Well then,” says the Lieutenant, “why don’t we finish off these bugs, then we’ll use government funds to have us some juicy, non-replicated steaks.”

“That’s a deal.”

Jack has a knife, a rail gun and 3 ammo clips.

Elethiomel: 2

“The...breach has yet to happen,” yells Suzy through the towel.

Thanking his stars that Suzy still hasn’t been violated, Dee continues running in the direction he thinks help will be. We have to mobilize to save Suzy. I can’t let that innocent girl be tainted. He runs around for a while, but can’t seem to find anybody. The sounds of battle are nearby, but when he turns a corner, they seem to come from the other direction.

“You’ve got qmail,” alerts the towel. Dee pulls out his qComp to see what it is.

Dee,
Something has happened. The bright light when we were floating on the ceiling somehow transported me and a few of the crew members back in time. I’m pretty sure we’re still on our ship, but it’s about 0600 this morning. I don’t exactly know how to get back right now, but I do know there is about an hour before the Princua breach the ship in my time. We have a chance to stop all this if we can figure out what to do. Let somebody in charge know.

Suzy

Dee reads through the message again. If that’s a code for how she’s about to be violated by three crew members, I can’t figure it out. He shrugs and continues looking for somebody to help him.

Dee has his towel, three grenades, two cans of cat food, four ammo clips, and two wrenches.

novice: 6

“Listen, Doc,” begins Zip in an ever-more hurried voice, “the Princua have a secret weapon of some kind. Why else would they attack us right now? They couldn’t do it at our launch point because there would be plenty of military vessels around to return fire, so they chose to wait ‘til we were almost to our colony. Then, they had to know our ship wasn’t defenseless and that there would be a contingent of soldiers onboard to provide resistance, so they would likely suffer too many casualties and damage to the ship. They want our superior technology, so they need the ship intact. The best way to do that is with some kind of secret weapon which transports people off the ship without direct fighting. You have to let me go so I can warn the people who need to know!”

“That’s nice,” responds the doctor as she gives a significant look to the orderly.

The orderly shifts slightly, and Zip feels a strange bulk pressed against his backside. “That better be a large syringe in your pocket,” Zip growls at the orderly. Suddenly, Zip’s body goes limp, and he falls back on his mat.

Zip has been immobilized. He can still see and hear what is going on around him, but he cannot speak or move for one turn.

Zip has a Dragonslayer with 5 shotgun rounds and two grenades remaining.

Sentran: 6

Tank sits up and tilts his head back to try lessening the flow of blood from his nose. He then remembers the sheet might be of help, if it doesn’t mind getting some blood on it. Would you mind helping staunch this blood coming from my nose? Make sure I can still breathe and such. The sheet gets the message, and proceeds to wrap around Tank’s nose. Unfortunately, it doesn’t know it’s own strength, and it still manages to impair Tank’s breathing. He gasps for air through his mouth, but it’s significantly less than he’s used to. He realizes that he won’t be able to do anything strenuous and still get enough oxygen unless the sheet loosens a bit.

Tank’s breathing is impaired. He may not perform any activities which require a faster breathing or heart rate.

Tank has an assault rifle with 200 rounds and a sheet.

011023890555

3iff: 4

“The Princua breach has yet to happen,” Suzy immediately yells into the towel at Dee. Knowing that Dee will likely misunderstand that somehow, Suzy proceeds to type out a rapid qmail to send. I just hope it goes through like it’s supposed to. I’m not really sure how alternate timelines work. This certainly wasn't covered in our briefing for this trip. When she finishes, she starts to think about what her next move should be.

Suddenly, the three crew members come back with confused looks on their faces. They notice Suzy is free of her bonds, and one shouts, “What are you doing untied?!”

“We’ve gone back in time! We need to do something about it, and this isn’t the time to fight amongst ourselves,” responds Suzy in a rush. The crew members look a bit shaken, but they seem to accept this. “Let’s talk about a plan. What did you guys find out out there?”

“About what you just said, but we couldn’t believe it was true,” says one.

“Nobody is concerned about a Princua threat, and it doesn’t seem they are in the sector based on what we got from a terminal,” adds another crew member.

“Well, we know it’s coming, so we can do something about it. Let’s get to work,” suggests Suzy with a tone of determination to hide her nagging doubt. Can we do something about it? Can we change the future?

Suzy has a kitchen knife and Dee’s back-up towel.

Now that I've got that, I'll just go back to the actual rules. If you want to keep participating, then post a new action within about 48 hours, and I'll write a scene. (That is, once 3iff is back from limited access. Until then, I'll try to post one scene a week after he's submitted his action.) If you know you don't want to participate anymore, please let me know and I will pause your character as I have the others. If you feel like returning, I would be happy to resume your character.

That's pretty much what I've got. If I'm only writing for two people, so be it. Anyway, we'll be back to normal now.

Tired of moping around like a clueless moron, Dee reluctantly reaches out to a visualized switch in his inner mind, and activates his... nerd implant!

Everything instantly becomes clear as water.

- Don't you see, Suzy! We were six hours out from Rutorak, and you guys were transported six hours back in time. If the Princua master time travel, why would they bother attacking us in the present? Obviously, they also traveled back in time to attack us, and the attack is coming from Rutorak!

Tell the navigation geeks back there to check the gravity field sensors - there must be one hell of a wormhole generator sitting down there! Just blast a short-wave quantum disruptor pulse at the planet, and it should arrive just as they try to breach our ship, collapsing their wormhole! I mean, how come they haven't figured this out already? It's not rocket science.

Action: Activate my nerd implant and tell Suzy how to wrap this up.

Turn 33 Resolution:

011023891155

MNO: -

Jack assumes a position of elite fighter, giving some instructions to the squad as they slowly press further into the Princua ship. Jack respects the Lieutenant’s authority for final say, but he doesn’t give much room for objection either. Jack even gives instructions to the Lieutenant at times, but in the heat of the battle, that doesn’t matter much. The only goal is to stay alive and send these damn lizards back to hell. Jack intends to do just that.

Jack is now part of the Lieutenant’s squad, fighting for the safety of the ship. Wherever the squad is, that is where Jack will be. He still has a knife, a rail gun and 3 ammo clips.

Elethiomel: 1

Dee feels utterly useless wandering around lost. He sees now that he should have stayed back at Command where he actually could have done some stuff. Damn this reverse-only clairvoyance. Just once I wish I could see a bit into the future. Suddenly, the reverse clairvoyance kicks in again, and Dee receives an image of just what is going on. All of the pieces since the start of the journey to Rutorak fall into place. The secret room, the final piece of cargo to be loaded on the ship, the mystery passenger, their unexpected stop in the Quogur sector, the timing of the attack, and Suzy’s current disruption from her normal timeline, it all points to exactly one thing.

Dee hurriedly prepares his mental faculties to activate his nerd implant, a last minute addition before the trip. It was supposed to be an emergency protocol in case he found himself in dire straights, but this seems close enough. He focuses on the implant, gathers his energy, and sends a burst across his synapses to the implant. It fires, but Dee is unprepared for the accompanying pain from what feels like another entity in his head. He falls to the floor, writhing, and finds himself unable to use the implant until the pain subsides.

Dee is unable to use the implant, or do anything really, because of the pain coursing through his body. He will be at a -1 for all actions next turn as he acclimates to the pain.

Dee has his towel, three grenades, two cans of cat food, four ammo clips, and two wrenches.

novice: -

As Zip lies immobile on the mat, he hears rustling behind him, then a voice in his ear says, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. We’ll get you away from here to warn the others.” Unable to do anything, Zip hopes that voice was attached to a person rather than being a hallucination. Soon, the medical personnel and the orderly return to supervise all the injured people’s transportation to the medical wing, some to the infirmary and some to the mental ward. Zip doesn’t like his odds, but he decides it will be nice to rest for now. It has been a very long day.

Zip is now in the medical wing under observation. His Dragonslayer with 5 shotgun rounds and two grenades remaining is being kept in a nearby locker with his name on it.

“I don’ believe dis,” says Tank to himself. He quickly sends images to the sheet about air, breathing, and the human respiratory system. The sheet gets the message and relaxes its grip just enough. Thank whatever gods there may be for semi-intelligence in sentient sheets. Able to breathe again, Tank prepares to face any Princua that come his way. The military guys have most of the action, and they don’t seem to want to share their chance to kill, so Tank is mostly removed from the action. That’s just as well for him as his head still hurts a bit from the fall.

Tank has an assault rifle with 200 rounds and a sheet.

“This may sound weird...oh hell! We’ve made thousands of astounding technological and evolutionary advances over the past century; this shouldn’t be weird, especially since we’ve just traveled back in time. Listen, I’m going to try telepathically communicating with a friend who is still in our normal time. Will you guys work on gathering supplies for us and formulating a plan to speak with the Captain without drawing much attention to ourselves?” asks Suzy.

“If it will help us get back to when we are supposed to be, do whatever you need. Zanbrook, Thomas, gather some supplies for us. I’ll use the terminal to plot our course,” says Geoffreys.

Suzy retreats to a corner to attempt telepathy. She doesn’t really know how to go about it, but in a flash of inspiration, she wraps the towel around her head to aid concentration by blocking out as much light and sound as possible. If I can’t do it in quiet darkness, I don’t suppose I’ll ever be able to do it. Suzy stills her breathing, and imagines Dee standing in front of her as if she was about to have a conversation with him. Then she imagines herself telling him about what she’s learned.

In that instance, the nanites in the towel and the connection with Dee’s towel somehow enable Suzy to communicate telepathically with Dee. She becomes aware of his presence, and understands that he is writhing on the ground in pain. She tries to soothe and calm him, but it doesn't seem to be working right now. Still, the connection is there, and he should be able to understand her when he is in less pain.

Suzy has the ability of telepathy, at least with Dee. With experimentation, she might be able to communicate even in the absence of the towel and with other people. Only time will tell. For now, what she has done is stunning enough.

Suzy has a kitchen knife and Dee’s back-up towel.

That was quite the round for 3iff. I like it.

Elethiomel, I didn't understand half of your flavor, but it was fun to think about. That's the kind of thing which helps push me to be more creative. It's not necessary, but it's fun.

I like it too, but that's probably used up all my luck for the next year.

(I'm just beginning to get the hang of directing the story flow then half the players are fading away.)

I'll have to think about my next action.

Action: Break the telepathic link to Dee for now as that might be overloading Dee's brain. However, after such a success, try and reach out gently to see if there are any other minds I might be able to connect with.

I'm ready to pull the towel off my head if I get the feeling things are going wrong (like that dreaded "1")

I think what you guys fail to understand is there doesn't have to be some sort of "story flow." The plot is only there to give you an impetus to do any thing. I think it would be quite boring if you were just aboard a ship. At any rate, you let me worry about "keeping things going"; you just come up with fun things to write. Wink

What I mean is that we can create directions we wish to go towards and invent whatever we wish. Then you do your bit...
