To be honest, I didnt know this was a classic. I thought it was fairly knew. I saw one solution in passing, but didnt remotely understand the first few sentences.
I might keep trying a bit longer before giving in and reading the link. |

I haven't read the link, but I would guess the key is to
Construct point F on line BD so that the length ED = EF. Then observe that triangles AEF and BED are congruent, and somehow prove that the lines CD and EF intersect at right angles, yielding x=30.
