RULES
1: Be civil towards each other unless it's part of your role. Make sure others know you are acting out your role.
2: Do not quote from your role PM description.
3: There will be hard deadlines each day following day 1. 4 weeks for the 2nd day, then 3 weeks for each of the following days.
4: Deadlines can be extended with a majority vote. The extension will be an additional week.
5: Night will last for 72 hours. Saturday and Sunday count as one 24 hour period. Night can end sooner than 72 hours, if I receive all Night Actions.
6: Vote counts will be posted as close to the top of each page as I or Garou can manage.
7: Mod kills, if they happen, end the day.
8: Post votes and unvotes in bold. If they are not in bold, I will not count them as an actual vote.
9: Lynches will occur when someone reaches a majority vote or when the deadline occurs. If the deadline is reached without a majority vote, then the player with the most votes (minimum of 2) will be the lynchee for the day. If two people have the same number of votes then the one who has had the votes longer will be the lynchee for the day.
10: Do not edit posts.
11: If you are dead, you may get one “Bah” post. You cannot post anything that may affect the outcome of the game in this post.
12: Moderator may amend rules as sees fit for clarification of rules.
13: Roles are assigned at random.
14: Posting at night in the public thread is not allowed.
15: Daytime will not commence until a morning post is made by a moderator.
16: “No Lynch” is a valid vote.
17: Votes/unvotes after majority is reached will not be count.
18. All discussion of the game must be in this forum, the designated restricted access discussion forums, or PMs to a moderator. Nothing outside of those.
19. If you feel that I have made a mistake or otherwise have questions, you may send me a PM or post a bolded message in thread like this: Mod: (message)
20. I may occasionally need to prod people. Please don't be offended if I prod you when you're active.
21. If you're going to be absent for a few days, please let me know via PM or the game thread.
22. Treat this game as a commitment and try to stay active out of fairness to the other players. _________________ "And all those exclamation marks, you notice? Five? A sure sign of someone who wears his underpants on his head." Terry Pratchett, Maskerade

It is the the Wizards' Excuse Me grand ball and by a glitch of HEX, whom Ponder Stibbons assured everyone that it would address the invitations to only those who were supposed to be there, invitations were sent out far and wide to bring people to the gala. A grand affair, the Wizards' Excuse Me ball has been traditionally a neutral zone, free from petty grievances and feuds. After all, it's hard to continue feuding when you've been turned into small lizards and frogs...
The Wizards' Excuse Me has been going on in full swing for most of the day. Many of the guests have already had to retire for a quick breather, or a lay-down, before they returned to the festivities. A jolly affair, most of the guests seem to be enjoying themselves immensely, although there are a few notable exceptions. Like a large rock in the middle of a river, the party guests swirl around the somber figure of the Patrician. A few, those who are from out of town, occasionally attempt to persuade him to join in the fun, but are quick to party elsewhere.
There is a brief lull in the sounds of the party as Old Tom, the University's tongueless octiron bell, strikes silence into the hall. With a small gasps that draw the attention of others nearby, heads begin to turn towards the area where the Patrician had been standing, but is now laying half collapsed into his assistant Drumknott's arms.
Commander Vimes, one of the few people at the party to be completely sober, pushes his way through the crowd, arriving at virtually the same moment as one of his officers, Sergeant Fred Colon.
"This looks bad, Captain!" Fred puffed, having rushed from the other side of the hall with chicken grease on one hand and a pastry in the other. "Who could have done a thing like this?" He looks at the pastry and hurriedly shoves it into his mouth.
Vimes looked around at all of the foreign party guests, local city folk, and Guild members. "It could have been any one of them Fred. Start rounding up the likely looking suspects and we'll take them out for questioning." He turned back to the crowd. "No one is to leave town until we solve this crime." He commanded the watching guests. "And someone go get me Doughnut Jimmy, the Patrician needs a doctor!"
Fred coughs a bit as he swallows his mouthful of pastry and bellows, "Alright, you heard him! Line up for questionin'! He looks over and spies a scurrying figure weaving through the crowd. "Noddy! There you are. Start helping me round these folks up."
You find yourself in a room with a group of others. Drumknott and Vimes stand in front of you. Vimes looks down at his pad of paper. "Alright. Let's get this started." _________________ "And all those exclamation marks, you notice? Five? A sure sign of someone who wears his underpants on his head." Terry Pratchett, Maskerade

Hi, finally finished my holiday days so I'm back here (on the forum) 5 days a week once Easter is over.
Rubberduck: It's pronounced Biff...but I'm very unbifflike!
A small backlog of work to catch up with then I'll probably have something to say. |

| In Russian 3 is an S sound, so I was thinking Siff, but it as it doesn't look like that I automatically lisped it Thiff, which is closer to Amb's "3 if" |

It can't possibly be "Biff" in my mind; I've never heard him mess up a single idiom.
I have no knowledge of this theme other than the fact that there are numerous novels and therefore characters. It seems like that will be a handicap for town in some ways. My first question though is "Does the mention of certain characters in the scene mean they aren't options for roles?" (Mod?) It might help us to know some aren't in the game. _________________ Paragon Tally: 18 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

We've only "read" (via audiobook, on long car rides) the first 2 books, but they were very amusing. Lots of interesting characters to choose from. Since this is a themed Mafia game, what are people's opinions on roleplay? It has proven to be a sticking point in the past, even getting people lynched for playing their role too well. _________________ Sentran

I have to side with Leonidas: 3iff first called it a "random" vote, then he qualified it even further as "for no reason whatsoever." That seems like over-compensating scum.

Last game, jadesmar picked up on a scum tell in LIML's first post, for something about as significant as this. Since I was her scum buddy at the time, I was torn over whether or not to defend her: I had thought it pretty thin, but I didn't want to go on record as saying that. In the end, it was more her reaction to the accusation than the original offense that brought us down.
IMHO, 3iff's reaction to this accusation seems more genuine than LIML's was, last game, so do not plan on joining this bandwagon -- at least not for this read of Leo's. |

I was town last game, and I still didn't see the scumtell in LIML's first post. I think jadesmar got lucky with that vote. I also don't see much more in 3iff's post than in LIML's, so I won't be voting for him. Zag does raise a good point about reactions though. There are 3 votes on 3iff already? Fos Jedo for being that 3rd person.
I'm interpretting Durryn's vote as random, and not because Jedo bandwagonned on day 1, page 1. But I wouldnt have complained if that was his reason for his vote. |

Random Vote Stage. Nothing concrete to go on, so voting for no real reason. Thats part of the reason that day 1 can drag on so much, because no case can truly be built well - and even if it could - no one* will follow.

Wellin the hopes of moving us on form the silly voting stuff I UNVOTE Jedo
That being done I want to say this. I feel that most "scum tells" are nothing more than personal perception. Other people see things they would do or say if they were scum and decide that is "scum tells". Honestly I have been accused of scum tells when I am not scum. To me that proves that these tells are wishfully thinking. I have no delusions I might dissuade someone from believing in them, but it is my opinion.

And just because you see it doesn't mean it WAS there. Seriously, I thought then, as now, that your read on her was flimsy to nonexistent, and the fact that she flipped scum did not change the nature of the read. It was dumb luck, not a good read.

The last scumtell I saw was MNO at the start of the Clint Eastwood game where he 'forgot' he was playing and then made up an implausible excuse...but that was strange, even for MNO. We took out a mafia with that play but it was mostly luck. Maybe some of you can sniff out something on the turn of a word but day 1 we're just taking shots in the dark.
Unvote for now. I think I'll start looking at the lurkers (although 3 days of playing is too soon to call anyone a lurker). |
