(the following message was posted in the "off topic" fourm but i wanted to post it here also so more people would see it)


If any of you have web pages you probly realized while building and updating
them them that they are addictive (well i did anyway). I already have one site
on the net (about tattoos and my family) and im working on another for my dad
also im tossing around ideas for a few more in my head. This is one idea I have:
Have yall ever read one of those "choose your own path" books you know where
you read one page then it has 3 different ways to go or whatever and say you pick
left then you turn to page 14, right 35, forward 21 (hopefully you know what im
talking about) anyway Im thinking of creating a web page that follws the same
pricipal where your a charactor and you read the part of the story on a certain
page then are given several different choices on what to do next or which way
to go on a path or something (sorta like a maze). I just wanted to present this
i dea to all of you and get your opinions. So what do yall think would you vist the
site if i were to make it? Also If you guys do like the idea I would love for every-
one here at GL to help me make, not the actual building of the site rather like
you could sugest things to go in the story, and help me if i encounter a sittuation
where im not sure how to do somethig like for example I want to make it where
you can pick up things along the way like say a talasmin to use later in the maze
but also make it where when you pick up the talasmin there are other things you
can pick up insted (and you can only pick up one so you may not have the talasmin
when you need it and will have to cahnge your path or backtrack or whatever but
im not sure how i could do this because if there is a link on the page where you
need to use the talasmin you could click on it whether you actualy had it or not.
Question here is how could i make it where you HAD to have it to use it (i hope
i havent lost you yet). I thought about making it where you had to have a password
to use it and when you click on tje talismin to pick it up it gives you the password.
But if i did that then people could just click on all of the items get all the
passwords.


Well i hope i havent confused everbody! Please let me know if you like the idea,
and if you know of a way to get around the talismin problem. Aslo I hope the
no one sees this and creates a page like it (but if you do please at least give
me credit for the idea). Thanks everbody!

I would, especially since i play games only to know how they end (besides how they store save-game-files ). The thing ?might? be done with a script and a variable that stores the name of the item in question. BUT if i get the talisman, advance, get another item, advance, realise i need the talisman, go "alt-left" or "back button" twice and get the talisman, skip the second item, use the talisman where needed, and afterwards realise i GOT to have the second item, how can i go there without needing to use the talisman again to advance? Would you need other variables for the state of all "gates" (or whatever) ? OTOH, the idea is nice, it can be done if you like typing LOTS of texts (the htmls for this are quite simple), but Zork-like games (mot to mention LSLarry-s) have done that a long time ago, haven't they?
