Several days ago, I posted a message in the Moderator Forum regarding the GLOC Project. The reason it went there was I wanted to keep the number of initial participants low until the major issues were worked out.

There are still quite a few things that need to be resolved, (mercifully most are logistics, most bugs have been minor or easy to fix).

But here's the GLOC update to answer the questions of everyone who feels out of the loop:

What is GLOC?
GLOC (short for Grey Labyrinth Open Content) is a tool that (theoretically) allows for authoring, publishing, and administering the Grey Labyrinth site by multiple individuals through a browser interface.

How can I participate?
Theoretically, GLOC should allow a large number of authors to work together on the site allowing the Grey Labyrinth's content to be updated far more frequently than it is currently.

However, if a hundred people start authoring content and it turns out there's a bug, fixing the problem may be much harder than if there's only a dozen.

So right now, we're adding users gradually. As confidence builds that the tool is working properly, more authors will be added.

Don't feel that you're missing out on much right now. The posts in GLOC Forum most revolve around: The logistics of adding authors, and The Bugs.

If you would like to participate here's what we're currently looking for:

Someone who has participated actively in the Forums.
Someone who has strong English language skills (including spelling and grammar).
Someone who wants to volunteer a some time to the Grey Labyrinth.
You will also need access to one of the big two browsers (MSIE 4+ or Netscape 4+).

If you want to participate, make your desire known to a Moderator, but understand that we're only adding author/reviewers at a rate we feel comfortable with the current level of testing.

Are you, Kevin, leaving the Grey Labyrinth?
I am planning on taking a sabbatical. I've been working on the Grey Labyrinth for five years now and am feeling a little burned out, particularly in writing new puzzles.

However, I don't want to leave the Grey Labyrinth until things are can run smoothly without me. This is why I spent several months writing GLOC.

During my sabbatical I will be doing some traveling, and probably will still drop in. It may last for several months.

Who will be the Forum Administrator?
Expect an announcement on this very shortly, and it will likely be someone much more involved in the Forums than I, and more qualified. This will be a big improvement, I think.

What about updates to the regular site?
This is what GLOC is about. In addition to authors, there will also be one or more publishers and a Minotaur Pro Tempore, and GLOC administrator. Likely overlapping roles.

These roles are being determined now, and we have a short list of candidates.

If you have any questions, please post them in the "Ask the Minotaur" Forum. Please understand that GLOC is keeping me quite busy. Thanks to the various Forum members who have jumped in and answered questions for me.

I meet all four qualifications, but I'm disqualified because I'm JDTAY. If only SE had good grammar skills...

Well, my best wishes on this endeavour. I certainly hope it goes as planned!

Many thanks for all the hard work you've done for us over the past 5 years, we appreciate it immensely. I trust that the temporary Minotaur will sway easily under my power, or at least get a good laugh out of my attempts

What more can be said? Thank you

No, GLOC is a custom written PERL application.
