There is just one thing that I worry about with the new information age. What about the people who never use computers today? What happens when two generations go by and the traditions in that family are the same. They won't know how to run computers. Maybe they can't afford them. I only guess the obviouse that technology is going to contineuw to grow and we will make more and more technological advases. What happens to the family that is computer dumb....Are we increasing the gap between the different classes of people. Kind of like the saying, "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

I am glad that I live in the information age. Just think of all the great stuff that we have. I couldn't imagine living without computers, cars, tv, and most importantly, video games. But I always wonder what it would have been like to live in the agriculture age. Other than the fact that I'd feel like I was amish, it would be ok. But if you were to live in those times you wouldn't know about the technology we have today so you wouldn't know any different. It all has to do with just adjusting to what is around us. Could we go from the information age into a new agriculture age? I think that the human race would probably die off. How many of us would be able to grow our own food or travel without a car? Could we, after living in the information age, go back into an agriculture age and be able to adjust? I'm not so sure that we could.

I think living in the "information age" has it's adantages and disadvantages. I mean, sure email and instant messangers, chat rooms..etc... are all really great because they make communication fast and easy...and that's what it's all about ..making things faster and more simple...and talking to people on the net may be great because, you can talk and feel comfortable because you have less inhabitions online...no one can see your face, you have time to think about what you say..etc...but at the same time, you are missing out on a lot of real human connection. Also, you might think you are really getting to know someone on the net, and in person they could be totally different --actually ..i bet they would be.
ps.--im not completely pessimistic

pps. -- recycle!

Does anyone know where you can by seperate laptop parts such as cases, mother boards, etc. I can build a home PC so cheap and I was just wondering if I could buy laptop parts and build one for less than $2000, lol. Any info is appreciated.

I thought that the discussion we had in class this week was interesting, especially the point that we have communication that we think is advanced, but it is of no use if you don't have the system to unlock the info such as the old 5 1/2" floppy disk and there drives. Some forms like the rosetta stone seem simple enough such as words on a rock but can be read right there, nothing to connect it to to read it. Another example was the record and record players.

Well If you are living in the Information age and all you do is sit on your butt and type at your computer than of course you are crazy. No one should do that. But like I said before there is no stoping the information age and rather than get pushed under the carpet and lost in a world of manual labor I am going to jump on the boat. And about getting fat well I live in utah there are mountans to climb and trails to ride the bike on. So FAT is not a option. Maybe PHAT. If a person gets fat because of their job that is there own problem not mine.

Yeah, its nice to have nature around to keep us outside and having fun but as my botany teacher says over and over again.. we are killing the environment using the natural resources to keep coming up with this new technology so how long will we have the great outdoors to keep us company? thats a question we have to ask ourselves and then somehow find a balance between technological progression and keeping the environment clean and habitable.

easy catman - maybe this will help... during the 'ag' revolution, more crops were grown on the same amount of land. more were harvested and people (even those not directly involved with 'ag') benifited. take a deep breath... during the 'indus' revolution, more things (goods) were being produced in a shorter amount of time. maybe supply and demand? again people (even those not directly involved with 'indus') benifited. see where this is going yet? now the 'info' revolution... you want a crack at this one? maybe volrath meant something like work smarter not harder. we still have farmer/ranchers ( love steak and a potato ), people are still manufacturing goods (use my jeep to get to the store ), and mom can e-mail her sister wherever. you should ask your friend if he likes his mass produced tools, or if he'd rather use a rock on a stick. id bet the 'blue-prints' he looks at (autocad)are better than the ones 10 or even 5 years ago. better than scrathing a plan in the dirt - hope it doesnt rain. i realize this is overly simple. everyone benifits. and if they dont, well its my opinion that its not vlorath's fault. volrath, you just keep programming away and making my life more efficient. best of luck to you. dont worry about us, we're trying our best to hold on. i just dont want to be left behind holding my rock-on-a-stick. out

If I were to choose a specfic age to live in, I would choose the technology age. Why? My life evolves over a computer. At work I am at a computer, at school I am at a computer, family life well lets just say I would not remember any of their phone numbers, birthdays, or addresses without a computer. I do wish however I was not so dependant to the machine. I experianced a day without power and I was lost to the world... Some people might say people that are dependant on a computer are lazy. I do agree but do not consider myself lazy. That is all.... (where is the spell check on this thing)

You know, after thinking about the comments, I truly belive that by considering the past, we as humans are simply using what we have best, our minds. Forever has man had the desire to give his child a life better than his own, so naturally everything we do is for embetterment, progression. With technology we are learning to customize our lives and make them more productive; but we can't forget the beauty of true hard work(manual), or the family. It will only be a matter of time when we really learn how to MODERATE these new abilities of technology for maximum effeciencies; the by-products will eventually be cut out and minimized for everyday applications.
