I was recently rummaging through my attic for items that I could sell, and I found stacks of old sports cards. I have approximately 1000 cards, most are baseball, but there are about 20 basketball cards, 50 football cards, and some hockey cards. I'm just wondering, if I were to assume that there are no $20,000 cards in the pile and most of them are crap, about how much can I get at a comic book/baseball card shop for them?

Probably a lot less than you could get on eBay. eBay gets the item to a wider market, and there's less overhead. Check there to see what other people have paid for similar items (check for completed items in advanced search).

Heck, even at $0.10 per card, that'd be $100, and you probably have a few that are worth a dollar or two. Maybe even five.

If you do decide to sell them, we should start a pool to guess how much you'll make.

Go to a card shop and buy a price guide. Beckett's should still be the top dog and really figure out what you have. There may even be a version online. Prices fluctuate on a monthly basis with the newer stuff. The older stuff tends to be stagnant, but get the latest price guide anyways. And keep in mind that condition plays a lot into it.

I dont know how much ebay affects the price nowadays, but if you think you have something valuable, see how it goes on there.

When selling to a dealer, expect to get about 2-5% of what the price guide says. And thats if its something they may think that they can actually sell. If not, you could always try to trade. Get some posters or something.

I can't sell them on eBay, I need the money within a couple weeks, I don't have a credit card (you need one to sign up, don't you?) I'm also not going to spend hours looking through a price guide for 1000 different cards. I'm definitely not going to trade. I need cash.

eBay also shows no bids on 1000-card lots, where the opening bid is $5.99.
