Does anyone know anything about the dialer 71-6-109-64? It has somehow, against my will, found its way onto my computer and I want to get rid of it. Any help is appreciated. Deleting the executable doesn't seem to get rid of it.

You use IE, no doubt. As for removal, I don't know if ad-aware (downloadable for free from download.com) will solve it, but the answer is likely yes.

There's another prog called Spybot which I think might be better than ad-aware. I have no need for either, but my parent's machine was badly overrun with pop-ups, and spybot took care of some things ad-aware didn't.

Actually, both Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware find different things. Run 'm both and you're quite likely to be rid of most pests..

But there are some things that require manual cleansing.

What's the name of the executable? I'll be able to tell you what to do with it.

I ran a few tests with my poor computer as guinea pig. I subjected it to every adware and spyware I could think of (and know how to remove), and this program got them all. I was most impressed. Ad-aware and spybot miss some that this one got.

It has a trial version.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Unfortunately, I can't say whether they work or not because I don't have access to that computer right now. But I'll let you know in about six weeks

(Antrax - yes, IE.)
(Samadhi - the name of the executable is simply 71-6-109-64.exe.)

Bicho: Sounds like it choses random digits to name itself when it gets loaded onto your machine for the first time. There are several that do this and it makes it difficult to get rid of them.

One way to do it would be to run regmon and see what registry files are being activated to recopy the file. That's not something I recommend though unless you know a bit about the registry.

But there's good news. Apparently SpyBot is aware of 5 variants of the WebDialer. They probably have the ability to remove yours. This company appears to have a feature that scans for just this type of crap.

If that fails I say you take off and nuke the entire computer from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Ho-ho-hold on one second. This installation has a substantial dollar value attached to it.
