Is there any actual proof that laughter is good for you?

Unless of course you've got broken ribs, then it's not so good.

Say if you were sick for more than a week, I'd imagine you'd feel pretty low - a bit of laughter here and there would cheer you up/lift your spirits, which helps the body heal itself - being depressed or whatever doesnt help

Planky has the right idea. I've seen articles that describe how laughter was used on hospital patients, who recovered faster than non-humored patients. Plus, as your emotions go down, so does your immune system. When you're feeling better emotionally, your immune system goes up. That's probably why I only get sick a few times in a year if even that. I try not to let myself be depressed, though it does happen.

It takes some random number of muscles to smile, and some random larger number of muscles to frown, meaning that frowning burns more calories and should logically be healthier.

Frowning may be better than smiling, but not laughing. Laughing kicks your ass.

What about those who laughed so hard and chokes and dies? Doesn't that mean laughing is hazardous to your health?

So basically, the healthiest thing is to frown while laughing? *tries*

Hmm... That's hard. Must mean it's a workout for my face.

I think that's the first time I've seen anyone correct a posting mistake like that. Usually people just delete it and try again (who did this, Murray?), or edit.

Laughter doesn't releave tension and stress. It makes people look at you funny. But then again, I often start laughing in the middle of a silence, laughing with a kheh he HE HE HE heke sort of laugh, which sounds like a car trying to start with soda in the gas tank. Or it sounds like one of six or seven other types of laughs I have that are just as strange.

But when my friends turn and look at me, thinking, What's this kid on?, I start laughing more, because it's so funny. And then they look at me funnier, so I laugh, and laugh, and then my stomach hurts, and that's not funny but it is, and so I laugh, and laugh, and then someone comes and smacks me upside the head, which hurts but is also funny, so I laugh -- hehe HE HEKE eheke HAHAHAHAHA MWAAAHGAHAAAAA -- and it doesn't stop and right now typing this, I am laughing, and my stomach is going to hurt soon, but that's hilarious, because they say humor is based on cruelty and pain, which is kind of funny, because I'm laughing because my stomach hurts because I was laughing, so it kinda shows it works both ways, that cruelty and pain are based on humor, and so this is all funny and my mom is hearing me laugh and she thinks I'm nuts.

He didn't say it made him sick to his stomach; he said it made his stomach hurt. Very big difference, there. The first would indeed be indication that laughter is not so healthy. The second, on the other hand, is consistant with laughter being good exercise. If you use it to condemn laughter, you must also condemn every other form of exercise.

Aaron, life is just one big sickness anyway. The only cure is death, in which case laughing to death, and thus dying happy, is THE best medicine
