Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Out of curiosity, I asked my friend, Levi, to lend me his books. And I'm actually enjoying the read. I'm almost done with it, so I'm going to ask him soon to lend me Chamber of Secrets. I have been bitten by the Harry Potter bug. It makes me think, it's a wonder there isn't a thread about tomorrow's release of The Order of the Phoenix (unless I just didn't notice it).

yeah, i'm actually surprised that there isn't more news about it, although sometimes the GL just skips big stuff, assuming that everyone already knows it
yes, Harry Potter is awesome reading. The 5th book will be (to put it lightly) difficult to get one's hands on. Most bookstores have people pre-order the book, so if you haven't done so already, you're probably out of luck. And unless you happen to walk into a library the minute they put the book out on the new titles shelf, you're probably out of luck there too. I know some places where the libraries let you reserve even new titles, but here in Raleigh you can't reserve new titles, so you have to get them off the shelf, if you can. Some libraries will have 3-4 copies at least, and all of them will be gone by the time i get there

| I can't wait. I spent 5-10 mins in chat this morning stressing over whether or not Amazon.com would deliver it by tomorrow. I'm hyperly giddy. Whee! |

| The books are good. They are not good enough to collect the hardback editions. |

Yay, I disagree with casinopete. With the exception of the fourth book, which I'd rate okay+, the books are passable at best.

| I bid on a copy on eBay. The current bid is $13.50 with $3.50 for shipping. The auction ends in 18 hours. If I don't get that one I'll bid on another. |

| In fifth grade they force read us the first book. It was ok, but not nearly good eneough to justify the hype. |

Good, another person was forced to read it also. Actually, my teacher read it before they became an obbession (hey, it gets more people reading)
I still thinks that Milagro Beanfield War is a much better book. But it you want a children's book...go with Holes |

| The first one was unbelievably shithouse. I nearly cried it was so bad. There is no way I am reading something that juvenile again... |

*is going to wait until she actually has money before begging her parents to let her buy it*
Figures, that the new book'd come out when I'm about £20 in debt. |

I finished the book yesterday. Half an hour later, I drove up to the local video rental store....
Bah. Levi wasn't at Robert's house today (he said he might stay the night last night). So I have to wait until Monday at the football summer workout program at school to ask him for The Chamber of Secrets.

Trying to keep up with a friend's child, Cody, who knows I like magic and dragons, I bought and read all 4 of the first books in 2 days. I've actually been waiting to read book 5 too, just so I can discuss it with him. He is slowly maturing up to the themes in book 3.
(And here in Canada, as in England, it's known as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Marketing is strange.)

Philosophers Stone sounds so much better... and why the hell would the *US* change it to Sorcerer's? WTF is up with that? Arent you guys all like, totally scared of anything to do with supernatural themes? What would Jebus say? |

| Aarondalf, it was purely a marketing gimmick - Philosopher didn't sound catchy enough and didn't seem to match up with the wizardry content, according to US marketing gurus. |

| Philosopher makes me think of the book more intellectually, not "Ooh, I can throw fireballs and roast the bad guys!" Harry is learning about his power, but not just what they can do. He has to think of the cause and effect on him, other people, and the surroundings. Critical thinking doesn't necessarily make it into most movies. |

| American-published novels are required by law to have a title that does not relate to any element of the novel. |

| You, sir, need to download a bootleg of 2 Fast 2 Furious. Enjoy watching the fast cars as the plot dumbs you down to the intelligence of BMW 5-series. |

Ha! Yay! I don't have to wait until tomorrow to read Chamber of Secrets! I went to Barnes and Noble today and bought the paperback boxed set of the first four books. They actually had quite a few copies of The Order of the Phoenix, but I didn't buy it, because it was sixty bucks. Most expensive hardback I've ever seen. My mom told me she saw it at Wal-Mart for sixteen ninety-five. Perhaps they knew people would buy them, out of fear it was a last-chance deal, that B&N jacked up the prices.
Bah at high prices.
I'm about a third of the way through Year Two right now.
