MattV, I have Win2k, and no firewall, no virus detector, no anything.

Loaded Ad-aware, all it found was a few cookies. Nothing running in the background that's bad.

It's not the computers that get the worms, spyware, etc..., it's the person that's using the computer. Can you really beat common sense and intellect?

btw pika, check www.answersthatwork.com - Veg found the site awhile ago. (Task List button)

The Number #1 way to catch a virus is not by getting sneezed on, sharing drinks, or even sharing needles: Download Kazaa Today

yeah some of it is stuff that (probably)doesn't belong there..
Tvtmd.exe is something called memory meter/total velocity
iam.exe can be a number of things, one of whioch is a program called bugtoaster?
cloneim is an AOL addon, MSIMN is Miscrosoft messenger
SVChost are Microsoft programs conecting to the internet and nothing to worry about, same goes for rundll32, lsass, services, winlogin
Csrss and Smss could be a virus (See here
kbd.exe seems a keyboard managerespecially for HP machines. Doe you have an HP? I think you do, there are several other files indicating an HP (IGFXTRAY.EXE, hpztsb05and hpsysdrv)

W00t @ seti@home but you need to take another screenshot, cause you have one svchost instance taking up all CPU poewer. that can happen for a moment or two, but should not be constanly./ You can add a column in the view displaying the total cpu time. in your case nearly all should gop to Seti, and only minut4es to the other stuff. if one of them shows more time that means its bad.

Get a program called Spybot search and destroy.

do NOT download Kazaa. Whatever you do.

Download Kazaa-lite, or if you can find it, Kazaa++.

Forget Kazaa and Kazaa Lite. Just use emule and go to sharereactor.com for everything you need.

And MacadamiamaN, that site is great and everyone should go there to check up on their task manager. I've posted that link here many times for several months now whenever someone had a spyware question.

Just followup with the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Two things Logain.. Emule only starts working properly after you've used it for a while, and leave it on a lot. In a lot of cases your download is even slower then your upload, which sucks for most people. I mean I am all in favor of the credit system, but I've uploaded 5+ Gb, and am still stuck wwith 6kbps downloads.

2) you forgot one other key:
HKEY_Currect_user\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

jesternl, if you're getting on 6kbps download, then you definitely have a setup issue

The credit system is not as limiting as you make it seem...and if you don't like it, then just use edonkey, an emule mod, or some other hacked client. The BIGGEST setup problem I've seen is to have your upload improperly capped. You have to limit your upload bandwidth properly, or it will effect your download bandwidth. Just for an example of how sensitive it is, I capped my uploads at 30kbps and had download issues. I noticed my uploads were peaking around 29kbps, so I lowered the cap to 28kbps. Suddenly all my download queue and speed issues went away.

Yeah I have tried different settings... I capped my upload at 10 (of 16), to get unlimited download, and my upload is always maxed out. My download is capped at 250 (of 512) and I varied between max and 25, each with the same result. And it's not as if I am only looking for rare files.
I don't want to use any of the hacked mods, I don't mind sharing what I have (Although for my MP3's I still use K++)
