| i remember my cousin in law was talking about what a pain getting visas was a while ago. the part i remember is that you should wait to get married until after you're already here. |

Forget visas. Claim insanity/someone'll kill you if you go back/whatever, and seek asylum. Even better if you do this here in the UK, as asylum seekers get treated a hell of a lot better than nationals.

kd is so right. tons (i mean a LOT) of gypsies from slovakia and czech rep. do this 'econotraveling' around europe. the most frequent targets used to be england, belgium and finland. belgians and fins got some sense into themselves, but no so the brits. so england is still a go.
what happens is, they leave slovakia (or czech rep.) and come to england (whole families). they seek asylum on the basis that they are persecuted in slovakia on racial issues. a load of crap that is, but the english immigration law says they have to deal with each asylum seeker's case. which means they stay in asylum camps or wherever untill their case is resolved. which may be anywhere from 3 weeks to up to 5-6 months. after this the british beurocrats finally decide that there's no need for them to flee slovakia. so they get shipped back. meanwhile, they get the social welfare in england, which is way more than they would earn working in slovakia. so they come back with their money 'well earned' and of course, don't work again until the money is gone, then let's go to england again. as a result of this slovak citizens need visas to get almost anywhere. makes you wonder why the majority population doesn't look too favorably at our fellow traveling gypsy slovaks.
to get to usa, you get a working visa for 3 months. go through an agency like Work Summer USA or whatever else they're called. then just stay there. after 3 months (and some random admin time) you will get a letter saying to get the hell out of their country and to report to some authority or other before you leave. trash the letter. after some random admin time, you get the second letter of the same content. trash it. then you get a different letter, which says they're going for you. a good thing is to switch address a coupla times to dodge any of these being delivered. of course you won't be able to use your NS# cause by this time you're 'on the hitlist'. which is not to say you can't work of course, just find someone who doesn't care about taxes either. look for minority employers - china towns, hispanics, etc. i know people who are dodging US within US for some 4-5 years. not the easiest of things, but it can be done.
getting married is the easy way of course. you can get married over in your country as well, just get the american to come there. that's what my sister did, and ppl told her it's stupid, she should go to US to get married, but she wanted to finish uni that she started here. but she got full immigrants visa in less than 3 months after the wedding. then of course, you have to work (pay taxes - that's the only thing they check) and live in US for some time (idk the exact numbers, its like 5 years) untill you get your permanent residency or whatever it's called. same thing as a citizenship only you can't get elected (or something like that). good thing is, once you have that, you can 'give' your green card to all family members back in original country. it used to be only for your parents, but they extended it to all siblings as well.
and here ends the lecture on exploiting social systems, tomorrow we have a short quiz so go over your notes! |

Some things ctrlaltdel forgot to say. And since it's the way I got into the US, I think I know
there's what's called the Fiancee visa. You need to find someone to want to marry you, and do so within three months of arriving in the US. You get a 'temporary permanent residency permit' which will be converted to a full residency ermit after being married for two years.
After another three years you can apply for citizin ship. Ask VinnyQ about that one.
You can apply for a wrk permit, but it's pretty difficult to get one without showing any kind of economic advantage to America to get one. The best way is to find a company willing to hire you and state that they will sponsor you. A
A person can sponsotr you as well, but that's more necessary when you apply for the marriage/fiancee visa.
Regardless of what you route you take, start doing the paperwork in your homecountry. Talk to the consulate/embassy, they are a great source of information. Be prepared to wait long times, fill out tons of forms, tell them everything about your life and fork over gross amounts of money.
