I saw Larry Bird once demonstrate this for a Boston Globe reporter. Larry was playing with two fingers taped together, and the reporter asked him if he could still shoot accurately. Larry then bet the man (who had been a successful college player) that he could completely tape up both hands, all four fingers together, and still beat him in a free-throw competition. With his hands completely taped (covering the finger tips) Larry threw 4/10 in the first set, then 8/10, 10/10, 9/10, to win their best of 5 competition.
In general, I don't think a guy referred to as "Larry Legend" is a good reference point for how easy or difficult something is.

There's a big difference between throwing a football into a barrel (or whatever) and being rushed, having to scramble meanwhile figuring out *which* barrel you can throw to. It's akin to the difference between breaking 5 boards with a punch and actually defending yourself in a fight.

The difference applies to all other players as well, so your point is moot. Razz

I think any average QB could make that video if he had enough "takes." The only impressive part is where he hits three spots on the goal post, and even that isn't that impressive. I've seen guys throw it through a swinging tire swing time after time after time.

He was on the "Today" show this morning. It took 25 hours of filming and lots of attempts, but no trickery. He admitted to being "not NFL material unless they developed a Harlem Globetrotters kind of team".

They sing in multiple languages, and do it well. I'm not sure whether I'd be more impressed if they did or didn't actually speak all those languages.
Seriously, have you ever tried singing a song in a language you don't understand? It's *hard* to get it good enough for a native speaker to understand you.

This happened about 11:00 this morning. The window in the right side of this photo is in my wife's shop. No one was hurt. The sole employee in the tailor shop had just gone to the back of the store from the cash stand, which was right about where the trunk of the Lexus is resting. The only damage to my wife's store was the window frame was knocked outward (not inward) about two inches. I shoved it back into place with my shoulder.

I was able to get my son's scout pants from the tailor shop a little while later, after the Lexus was pulled out.

211 tornadoes in a 24 hour period. Previous record was in 1974 with 148.

That was one hell of a violent storm system. Thank God it was all well south of where I live.

The logistics of providing a team of space cowboys (and cowgirls, of course) with protection from radiation, a sustainable atmosphere, food and water are daunting.

A group of students at North Carolina State University (NCSU) think they have it worked out, though. Yesterday, the university released an announcement stating that a team of aerospace and textile engineering students believe the holy grail of space exploration is in the materials. Rather than relying on bulky aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fibers, the team designed an inflatable habitation unit using radiation-deflecting Demron™, a gas-tight polyurethane liner to seal in air, and a gold-based UV film that blocks astronauts from exposure.

Posting this for Sam...

I had what might possibly the BEST experience being pulled over ever. (things in parentheses are my comments)

<story>
Got pulled over on the way to a client meeting and the officer (coming up to the passenger side for safety says "Hi. I pulled you over because your inspection sticker is expired. (very fair; it expired in Feb)."

Me: "Yes it is."

Him: "Why haven't you gotten your car inspected?"

Me: "Because I work 70ish hours a week and haven t had time. (that, thankfully is over now)"

Him: "Ok, you re busy. Can I have your license & registration?"

I hand it to him and he heads back to his car. Comes back a minute later and says "When do you think you ll have it inspected?"

"Umm this week?"

"Ok, be sure that you do. Be careful pulling back into traffic." *hands back license and registration (and a notable lack of ticket) *

</story>

To the point, fair, honest and polite. I dont think it gets better than this. Sam, some cops don t suck. (I know it s rare; I just thought you might like to know.)

To be honest, I mostly came to post about my upcoming adventures in Chicago. The story for Sam was just a bonus.

I ve been lurking a lot lately; it comes with working 70ish hrs a week and being stressed most of the time. Since that just ended, hopefully I ll get it together and become a good, contributing member of GL society.

Also, who's Quailman? Wink

Several things:

Today is some sort of Stonehenge-esque equinox. The sun is setting and, today, its trajectory takes it down a crack between two buildings. As a consequence, the side of the swimming pool (outside my window) is brightly lit.

They finally captured a picture of the Space Shuttle docked at the ISS. That's beautiful, too.

I finished Dreams from my Father last week. What an amazing guy is Barack Obama: truly a citizen-philosopher. Kudos to the Americans among you for electing a guy who has wrestled so comprehensively with the race issues that seem to be the invisible basis of much of the divisive contemporary rhetoric.

I watched Al Gore's TED talks over the past couple days. What a champion: it's hard to imagine how much progress we might have made on environmental issues with him in the White House. I wonder if I lean left simply because bright, interesting optimists tend to be progressives?

In Texas, I'm pretty sure you can't be pulled over for having your inspection out, but if you are pulled over for something else, boy will they hand you a whopping ticket for that expired inspection.

Now to counter with my own story.

A motorcycle cop sees that my registration sticker is expired (by a month), and makes a U-turn to pull me over. He asks why I haven't changed it, and I say it's because I don't have a scraper (it had become super stuck). I show him that I actually have the new sticker. He goes back to his bike, dinks around for nearly ten minutes, then comes back to my car and tells me to put it on there as soon as possible. He finishes with, "You're wasting my time and yours."

How do I waste a cop's time whose job is to pull people over and keep the peace and safety? Oh, Jiminy
