Some years ago I saw this on TV...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSs7NCWp6kA

... I have never laughed as much at that show as this skit. I have remembered (slightly wrongly) for years.

Anyone else got any recommended classics?

One of the greatest game commercials ever.

Well, in my humble opinion anyway. I'm glad I saw that commercial, becuase it made me desperately want to play the game.. which is still one of my favorites today.

Okay, it's not quite accurate in a few of its details. Still, if you've ever wondered what it would be like to have the Earth get hit by a 500-mile-diameter meteorite, this cheerful bit of animation should give you a fair idea.

Samadhi: Considering the company that made the game has been out of business for almost a decade? They made a few crappy games, and a few great games, even made Heat.net (one of the many services that allowed local network games to be played over the internet, most died out when Quakespy/Gamespy 3D came out and made it so much easier). Wikipedia says they lasted until 2000, but they were effectively dead before that. I actually half about half of the games listed on Wikipedia (and I know they made others that werent listed, like Three Dirty Dwarves), some I bought (Obsidian, Rocket Jockey), some I got for free for being a paying member of Heat.net (Vigilance, Flesh Feast, Plane Crazy, and more, all in all it was WELL worth paying for Heat.net given all the free shit they gave me). You're not going to be able to find Obsidian on sale anymore unless you really scour for it, and you can't find it on abandonware sites becuase it was five CDs large (lots of multimedia, it's a Myst clone (although IMHO better)).

Whew. Damnit, you went and got me talking about video games. See what happens? I do hope you find it though, but it may not work on modern systems.

This may cheer you up then. I've been craving playing Rocket Jockey again lately too, but it won't install on modern systems anyway.

A sample Quake 3 trickjumping movie. This is what I've been doing lately instead of actually playing the game. The idea is to exploit bugs in the game's physics engine to reach high speeds, jump heights and the such. That's what you see when you see the character in the movie jumping left-right and looking like a moron - if you turn your mouse right and approach the jump at the right angle, you can get a 1.4 boost to your speed with each jump. The other main idea is to use the blasts from your own weapons to boost you, which is why you see him shooting rockets at walls and on the floor all the time.

Others have done it (including some spoofs), but none with nearly the same effect.

Dan, those speed runs are made by pasting together parts of tens of thousands of attempts, playing the game frame-by-frame and disassembling the ROM to find bugs in the game's engine that can be exploited to gain speed or bypass some areas. Snapshots are the least of your worries.
They still are cool, though. I really like the Super Mario World one.

OK, here is a little of my favourite TV show of all time:

"Boomshanka" and something about being sycophantic:

Hahaha wow. Yeah, I knew they cheated, but wasn't sure about their methods. I think the part where he passes through the wall in Bowser's castle is fair-play though. You could pull that off if you were actually playing the game, so I feel that little bit of cheating is legit. Revenge most foul!
